Winter mods check list please.

the "evo" type adds about 30% airbox volume but no real noticable sound increase, at least not with my Blue Flame can. My bike was running rich with the can (plenty of backfiring on the overrun) but since moding the box it's alot better so i assume it's now flowing more air. I've got a K & N sat waiting to go in, i'll do that when i strip it down to replace the head bearings. once i've done that and changed oil etc, i'll get it down to Griff in the new year for a proper set up.

But if deffo feels more free reving

I've also got a baffle repack kit for my can, to do, it sounds like it's all blown out atm !! god, it's loud and putting the baffle in makes no difference what so ever, which makes me think the packing gone south

With only getting the bike at the tail end of the year i havn't really done that many miles and tbh after my RC8 it feels a bit down on power anyway...

Badger - ohhhh your a card aintcha :p

Nice one, that is going on the list...
Also I was thiinking (dangerous, dangerous) about this today, and if were are increasing airbox volume, aswell as going with a design with some forced induction in mind, have i much higher volume air box would reduce its pressure at a given speed??, I guess the bigger boots will help with that, but I was also thinking perhaps modding the actual intakes to be funnelled (if you know what I mean), or if they already are (bike isnt here to look at) increasing the size of the funnel...greater diameter funnel entrance to original sized duct would result in more air taken in, compressed at a greater ratio, given a higher pressure in the airbox??
(pressuming the filter has the flow capabilties to get it into the airbox quick enough...)

Mak - so how much does an RC8 put down at the wheel?

mine was a 08 RC8 remapped with TuneECU so probably around 145 ish

The only real thing i want to do to mine now, is a modded header pipe off rat bike then a full set up from Griff

BTW Steve have you checked your airbox to see if the "top hat" restrictor is still in, it was in mine, couldn't believe it after all these years since the bike was built, no one had removed it

Yes mate I have, it wasnt in there ( pics on like page 6 I think ;) )
I really hope I get to work on it tomorrow! wish I had a garage at my place!! also wish I had a work bench and tools, and better roads to ride it on, but hey ho...

I got every thing except the roads atm, the grit wagon has made its first appearance round this neck of the woods :(

Steve
You can add steering head bearings to the list :roll mine are shagged only done 10K and they are notchy :no

Does anyone know if there is any reason why you could not fit taper roller bearings :confused can get these for £20.00 both sets, I dread to think what Aprilia will charge for 2 sets of ball race bearings.
I can't believe they are still fitting ball race bearings I thought these went out years ago, is it because they are cheap or am I missing something :confused

Im pretty sure i`v seen someone give links to a place that makes pattern replacements for the oem bearings ;) (someone will confirm I`m sure...)

The list is just for Mods really dude :thumbup Thats more a maintainence thing that you`d check with any bike.
Could put a "check" on there though I guess if they are prone to going...

Went to finish my bloomin wiring mod last nite, only ran out of blooming solder and heat shrink! The brown connector is gone.
Back to day to finish...

Then I`ll start eyeing up the airbox lid ;)

It's a mod now :biggrin just got a set of taper bearings from Marksman Industrial to replace the crappy ball race ones

I got my (taper) head bearings from http://www.wemoto.com/ great spot, not got round to fitting em yet but i got my K & N on 2day

Also removed the large RSV decals off the side fairing, one was damaged when the bike had falled off stand at some point, happy that the fairing underneath was un marked :)

Mark has your bike got the side stand mod ? the original was to upright hence loads of bikes falling over. I have a 2007 fireblade stand with 12mm chopped off.

Its official I bloody hate soldering, I`m half Maltese, perhaps its a Mediterranean thing???

My white block connector looks butchered!

I`v decided I`m going to jus replace the white block connector with individual connectors so I can get a better clean joint for the mod. Getting the extra wire in with those spades is a pain in the ***!

I think I have the 2007 fireblade but as I say you have to shorten it.(12/14mm) Bought mine new from David Silver Honda spare's you also need the Honda return spring better all round. There are loads of threads ref the side stand have a trawl thro Good luck.

my plans were modded collector hooked style filter chip and gearing but after my sprag packed in today its replace sprag uprated solanoid and new uprated battery with all the wireing mods looks like the rest will have to go on hold for abit now

taper head race bearings are a good mod and improve things as far as my experience goes (done this on a good few bikes from gsxr1000 to big zx12r's blackbirds etc

Does it make as good/stable as a "normal" jap bike?

When I went for a ride a while back with Spred, I realised my stand wasnt standard as it sits very sturdy and Pauls looked like it was going to topple over

I`m going to go one further I think and just get rid of the white block connector too and eliminate any resistance aswel as get really nice clean connections :eatcorn

Just got a complete firestorm stand for £26 off fleabay but probably wont see it until after christmas now....
