My first Twin!

Yes please mate, can you do me a dummies guide also? :thumbup

Will give you a call/text tomorrow, will check out the tyres also..

Been moving a bit slower on this, as my birthday has been and gone and works been demanding to say the least.

I have this evening been drilling out an exhaust bung which was successful so now I have 2 free moving header bungs.. I am borrowing a large air mover of a local cleaning company and looking to sync and do my co this weekend!

One of these will do the job and keep the Italian supermodel cool lol

Commercial Floor & Carpet Dryer / Blower & Air Mover on eBay!

Off to Moto GP le mans next weekend so going to give the rocker cover a miss until I return, anyone have a rocker cover bolt I could nab? Also still looking for a clip on bar end, readies waiting..

Thumbs Up

Remember to go to the far right of the tolls in France ...motogp weekend most of them should let you through for free...normally a little coned off run through

Cheers mate will do. Going to try and avoid as many tolls as possible but that will depend on the weather and how much cash we sink into food and drink :devious

Well I have been busy today.. About 6 hours working on the bike whilst my Mrs went to london to watch the annual pet show with her mate..

Time well spent! Thumbs Up

New MWR filter.. yummy

- Fitted the sorted header first.

- Removed rad and used my dremel to assist in removing the naff rocker cover bolt. Replaced rocker cover.

- Fitted exhaust and rad, flushed coolant and replaced.

- Started her up to check for leaks and found my exhaust was leaking. So off with the header again to get to the leak between the front header and collector. Bit of exhaust sealant, sorted.

- I do need a new rocker cover bolt still as I've chopped a line through it for now to use a flat head on it..

- Prepped and ready for sync and co with Gregorious tomorrow, also doing his bike after Big smile

- Any tips for sync and co??

I is liking that air filter!

You dont put your lid back on do you?? Do you have to seal the tank to the bottom of the airbox then?

Oh and where did you get if from just looked at the mwr website and they had a link to a distributor in the uk speedycom which seemed to have 2 types for gen1's a normal and evo? Is this where you got ures from woodzy? And idea on the difference?

Cheers.. got it from http://www.roarfactory.co.uk/mwr-high-efficiency-air-filter-aprilia-rsv-mille-1997-2003

Doesnt need the air box top or sealing to the tank. It draws air from around the tank and also through the ram feed. Seems to work well.

Did my co levels today with the help of gregorious.. only been for a small run round town but the difference in throttle response is amazing. Very smooth.. no snatchyness and quicker response. Hopefully faster and more mpg too!!

Front was 9%
Rear was 1/2%

Now both within spec :)

Lol cheers.. need to re pack my can next not sure what size rivets I need. Want to get some gas sealed ones.. any idea where best to buy em?

Decided it was time to re-pack my can considering it has done around 8000 miles since new.

I purchased the following to get the job done..

Exhaust packing sheet 1m x 450mm material mat
Exhaust packing sheet 1m x 450mm material mat repackable exhausts bike kitcar | eBay

Rivets
Blind Rivets Fixing 4.8 x 10mm Pack of 500 | Screwfix.com

If anyone needs rivets let me know I have 988 of them haha

Drill bits
Erbauer Ground HSS Drill Bit 5mm Pack of 5 | Screwfix.com

I also used WD40 a rubber mallet and my grandads old drill Thumbs Up

I stress the importance of fresh decent drill bits! As my attempt yesterday did lead to minor scratches on the can which fortunately cant be seen from the front. My plan going forward is to have the can polished as it did already have a large can strap mark.

Don your PPE ****** and gents for the exhaust packing is nasty sh*t!!

Ready..

The mess of a drill bit or several that were no good..

Drill the rivets out..

Remove the straps and I used a drift do bash the remains of the rivets through.

You do not need to remove both ends. Remove only the inlet end as the inner perforated tube is welded to the inlet end.. I found out the hard way haha

Remove the old wadding -

Ideally you would replace the wire wool surround but mine wasn't to bad..

Wrap round the new wadding and insert back into the can (sorry no pics)

Smear heat resistant sealant around the end caps, and slowly push them back in.. run the straps round and fix the new rivets..

I had only left the garage for 20 mins to grab a brew and came back to this!!

An exhaust fiend had been in hahaah que Nicky?!

Job done..

Will find out tomorrow evening

I expect It will change a fair bit after the wadding has expanded though.. it should be deeper and maybe louder as I put the hole sheet in

Whalst you had it apart you could have cut the fecker in half & got rid of that nasty strap mark :devious

Was tempting but I heard the rotax performs better with a full length can?

Was going to head up to my mums but going tomorrow now... 6 days off work.. #getin Took the dogs for a walk over hayling Island instead. Hows yours running now?

Bike is 100% ready for my road trip! Photos and videos to follow..

Le Mans Moto GP 2013

We had a fantastic and eventful trip for sure!!!

Just before I left our place..

Journey over was dry, sunny and motoring heaven. Unfortunately though on my way up to my mums from Pompey my bag fell off and ratchet strap got caught in my wheel.

Some might say you only learn the hard way, when using ratchet straps only wrap once! It could have been much worse...

O.Z wheel slightly scratched, rear fairing scratched, rear light cover smashed (lens needed), ratchet strap broken and brown pants!

Managed to sort some new indicators from Finns in redhill and a new relay to cope with them from aprilia east grinstead. I also picked up a bar end which was handy..

Getting the train over to France was a first to me.. amazing it only takes 30 minutes from end to end.. What an major engineering feat. I was speaking to a member of staff who said the channel is only approximately 40 meters deep and the tunnel is only another 25-30 meters deeper than the sea bed...

We arrived in France and filled up with petrol, I had lost some chewing gum out of my mouth in England and found it had smeared down my leg in between the tank lol!

Our second stop was in the first town we arrived in at a bakery for fresh pan au chocolats.... mmm yummy!

French roads were great and my bike was performing great. We covered approximately 100 miles cross country and stopped off for a break whilst admiring the country side and great roads. I decided to let my mate have a go on my bike.

About an hour or so later I was riding at a good pace and suddenly lost half my power and the bike sounded like a tractor, I shat myself and slowed down to a stop with the clutch in and the bike stalled.. I pushed it down the road to a lay by and a french man came out of his office to offer help (in the middle of nowhere with about 4 houses close to us). I declined and said we will check the bike over first.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H24XVUrMzyM

After checking the bike I found the exhaust had not fallen off and no obvious sign of any issues.. I started to think maybe my mate had over reved it and one of the cam chains had snapped or it had skipped a tooth.. I started it up once more to hear...

It was painfull!

The incredibly helpful french man Julian came out after hearing the bike start and offered his tools and trailer. He gave me a lift to the nearest aprilia garage in Aimens...

Sad face!

He went in and grabbed a technician who asked me to start the bike, I was reluctant to at this point as I had already started it twice and felt like it was causing damage each time..

I fired it up and he said instantly spark plug out, before I knew it he ran off with the bike into the workshop lol!

We followed in, they lifted the tank (were pleasantly surprised by the quick release seat, gold rocker covers and mwr filter haha) Sure enough one of the front head plugs had shot out!!!!!

They checked the thread to find no damage, the plug looks new with no damage also. They torqued it back up and all was good and has been since! How strange?!!

Happy face! lol

The techs would not accept any cash but gave me a business card and asked for me to send them the pictures.. I unfortunately lost the card on the trip back and need to get in touch with them. I cant seem to find details for the Aprilia/Ducati dealership in Aimens.. any ideas?

We continued our journey and had a fantastic time, the GP was awesome and Crutchlow did very well! We had a good spot at the end of the straight so were able to watch them climbing the hill through the s bend.

Sea of bikes..

After leaving Le Mans we had a 4 hour ride cross country back to or hotel just outside Paris the locals love bikes for sure!

Unfortunately my mates got a couple of speeding fines! The boys in blue were interesting to say the least...

Had a good meal out and shared beers and single malt with some interesting locals and then headed back in the pissing rain in my semi water proofs.

We also found an interesting bridge which we spent about an hour viewing after a few beverages which involved a brief chat with the local fisherman haha

What a trip! Bring on the next one!

We got a lot of go pro footage which will not be going online :devious
