Engine rattle!!!

Not long got the bike out this year ( a little later than usual!!) had the valve clearances done last year and she was running sweet, i have noticed that when i start the bike up there is a rattle from around the front of the engine, put a slight rev on and it dissapears, it sometimes lasts for a little longer than i would want but does always stop, now i assume its the cam chain tensioner, any ideas if thats the culprit or not and just how major a job it is to replace? The bike is a 2011 model with around 12,500 miles, maybe time for an upgrade to the 1100

Yeah, sounds like the cam chain tensioner not working correctly, unsure as to just how major a job it is to fit??!!

Could be just a lack of oil on start up. My R1 had the same rattle on starting, Yamaha changed the tensioner design so that it holds oil when not running.

Yes my aprillia rs 457 is having the same issue, a couple months back it had an engine rattle which was present at start up and low rpms and when revving/sometimes was intermittent. I took the bike into aprillia and they changed the cam chain tensioner under warranty which afterwards it was running smoothly until 2 days ago when it started rattling again this time throughout the rev range and intermittently, especially on declaration/ letting off the throttle.

Engine rattle!!!
