50 kph over here, and they take your bike with the license if the po-po catches you... ******* hell mate. I hae mah fingers crossed fer ye.

How long do you lose your license? Here in BC if 40 km over its a $385 fine, a 7 day impound of the vehicle but you keep the license. Also you'll pay a surcharge of $325/yr for 3 yrs on your insurance. At 61 km over the fine is increased to $465 but everything else remains the same.

It looks like I will be ringing a local (as in Carlisle) solicitor in the mornin. Its pointless paying for one to travel over there from Durham.
I did not sign for the letter, just normal post.
My boss is willin to put a letter together, it can only help.

My mate is willin to take me over there for the hearing in case I am a pedestrian for a few weeks.
Its a long way back on the bus.

If I am facing a spell off road, at least it was not in the summer.

For info, it was a mobile camera on the opposite carriage way that got me. From the photos, it looks like it was on a sweeping part of a dual carriage way.
I would have thought that it would have been on my side of the road.
Sneaky.

gf do yer no need tae sign fir it ???

At 1 time you did, but most just post them out using normal service.
I reckon as its so close to the 6 months he should **** it off. They aint going to argue about a day or 2, after all they've had 6 bloody months to get their act together. Worth a shot in mt book

back in 2001 i got caught doing 106mph on a dual carriageway(A38), the cop gave me **** and promised me a ban, anyway long story short i pleaded guilty, said i was very sorry and that I'd had a clean licence and came away with a £350 fine and 6 points, happy days, so its all down to the magistrates on the day, fingers crossed his Mrs gave him a cracking ******** the night before

(and yes i know there are 3 of them)

My two penneth.

A friend was caught along the M4 in summer at 104mph this year and had his case about a month ago.
Everything he and I read detailed an impending ban, plus fine, plus points.
Supposedly loss of licence for job etc. isn't really a defence, cos you knew the consequences of your actions.

Anyhow he ended up with a £450 fine & 6 points, so he's on 9 points now and is a goodey two shoes.

What helped him according to the magistrate?
He admitted guilt at the first opportunity, rather than trying to weasel his way out of it.
The fact he was taking advanced training lessons to better his ways.
Police detailing the motorway was light traffic, conditions and visibility was good, and he wasn't posing a danger to himself or other road users.

Other things that possibly helped.
his girlfriend practically weeping all the way through.
And the fact he was sorry to the core & it showed by him shaking with fear while speaking to said magistrate.

As others have said - take the rap, but show you understand the nature of the offence and have taken actions to mend your ways.
Maybe do an advanced day course to prove willingless to learn/change.
Optional - take a weeping spouse/girlfriend.

Best of luck...

I spoke to a solicitor today & he suggested that a ban is the lesser of the two evils - if I can live without a liscence foir a couple of weeks.
Gets it over with, no points on ther liscence for the next 3 years.

He seemed pretty sure that unless I had some good mitigating circumstances, that would be the outcome.

I plan to have a chat with my insurance company in the morning & see if a ban or the points makes more sense as far as renewals over the next few years are concerned.

Any one got any info on this ?

did you tell him the 6 months was all but up?
May be having a look an this site http://www.pepipoo.com Read about them somewhere before, and are for the motorist.
Play on the 6 months mate, its got to be worth a shot, or £50 to a solicitor for his letter to the court about time scales

Just done a check on insurance renewal.

My broker advised that a ban has the biggest affect on any renewal.

Then for comparison purposes only, I went onto Go-Compare & got two quotes, one with 6 points & the other with a month ban.

3rd party F&T (£100 excess), garaged etc - everything else the same for both quotes.

6 points - range from £85.57 to £197.00

1 month ban (no points) range from £93 to £212.00

So not much in it really.

Might be a daft question, but would I have to re-take a test if I got banned for a couple of weeks ?

If so, would it be just the bike test ?

I think you just have no licence for what ever time. COOLING OFF PERIOD

You DO have to re-test after a Drunk Driving ban

Olaf,
i am sure you will be fine however if you do require a character reference I dont charge that much for mates lol
good luck mate and remember to 'ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE'

Cheers Brooksy, thats made me feel a whole lot better.

Anyway, thanks to all for responding & educating me with your knowlwedge & experiences.
After looking at the various outcomes, **** happens. I am sure I will get over it.
I have been riding fast bikes for 35 years, its been a long time coming.
When I think about some of the daft things I have done on Gixers & blades, it could have been a whole lot worse.

At least the missus is not giving me earache over it (yet).

I've been banned three times in the last 15 years last time was about 2006 all for speeding, never been any suggestion of retaking test. Don't worry youirself about it, just take the wrap. Have never been declined insurance & premiums have never been exhaustive. Dangerouir driving, Drink driving & driving without Insurance have much more serious consequenses than speeding.

I'VE BEEN BANNED THREE TIMESi

Tricky,
you must be extreemy un-lucky or you just like being told off by magistrates.

I hope this will be a one off for me !!

I used to do a lot of Motorway miles & had fast cars for a number of years, = Innevitable points. One weekend managed to get 6 points & a parking ticket, Am used to the lectures of the magistrates & how to bow down & plead poverty.
Living in a rural area & plodding around in a landrover helps to keep the points off, I also normally tend to go out on the bike mid week when Mr Plod is less likely to be around. licence is very nearly clean as of May next year shall hopefully be pointless.

Micky,
looks like you have found a way of having the max fun with min risks.
As you say, I hope you will be pointless in the spring.
Dont let the *******s grind you down & keep a good look-out.

So the guy had his train fare home reimbursed, legal fees paid & still got banned what's he gloating over????

& I think I may be right but am willing to be shot down in flames to the contrary. Having had three previous bans I've never had additional points my license which comes back clean when you get it back.

Would be interested to know what the monthly premiums are & may be useful of you are a professional driver.
