103mph in a 70 zone

Well I wouldn't personally try the loophole type ****, but do what the bloke did who was just before me in court when I was there for doing 99.

Apologise obviously, and take someone (ideally your boss I suppose) from work to testify that you have to drive as part of your job, or you will lose your job if you can't drive. I suppose that argument depends on what you do as a job, if its pretty obvious you need to drive (e.g. a rep or similar) then surely its your best option?

The guy in front of me did this and had 6 points as I did but a much bigger fine - but didn't get any ban. He was doing 103 also.

On the three occasions I've been banned, all speeding related. They've made a point of asking me how I got there. I did take a driver down to Andover but never told them car was in the multi storey on the other occasions.

Told them I was a convicted Paedophile and as I lived in a rural area with no public transport I would have to rely on school bus to transport me around. That helped reduce the length of ban I think.:drool

Fine also depends on income. Have to supply a statement of Incomings & outgoings etc. I made that up as well, being self employed it was easy. No money in the pub game any more!!! When I had the £600 fine I was employed with a 30K plus salary, when I was self employed & embelished the truth fine was about £180.00

For gods sake dont start saying it was someone else etc etc. Thats just BAD advice. You could end up going down the perverting the course of justice route and end up in Old Elvet for your troubles.
Fact is you did it, and now its just damage limitation. It'll be court at Carlisle no doubt as Penrith has just closed (used to be used for all motoring cases in North Cumbria). You will be required to attend court. If you dont a warrant will be issued and you will have to make the journey over to cumbria in the back of a van.

I bet they never copped any of them un taxed, uninsured stolen vans, caravans and wagons up there that weekend did they ???

Pesky filth. Should be out catching real criminals.... :kicknuts

After all.......we do pay their wages.

Are you a copper then daveC? Oh and welcome to the forum btw - not much of an introductory post for your first one!!

You have a Tuono then?

Well we all know the consequences if we speed and we still do it.

Hard to get up the banning speeds on the roads we do though and on the straight bits I tend to keep an eye way out in front and in the mirrors.

Reading through the above, I alternate between laughter & despair.

I spoke to Ted Vickers, the brief mentioned in one of your links.

He suggested that Cumbria is as bad as Wales as far as speeding is concerned which brightened my whole day up.

He asked about current points, how I get to work etc.

He said he would keep me right for free, a letter is £250.00 ish & an appearance at court from him is approx £1000.00.

It looks like its another trip to the lakes in a couple of months time, best suit on, possibly coming bask as a passenger.

From the above, it seems that 103 mph is a popular speed to get done for.

Since this, I have obviously keeping an eye on speeds & it seems that almost everyone is breaking every limit out there.

**** happens.

I am off to Assen in the morning, for a long week end, taking the ferry from Hull with 10 others on various bikes (I think I am the only T)

Looks like I will be getting **** faced (I wonder how that comes out in translation in the red light district)

Olaf I have great symapathy with regards to the speed thing. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I suppose what will be will be and I don't think the courts are out to persecute the genuine people out there. Best thing is learn from it and keep it to fairly legal speed limits n only go fast where you know theres nowehere for the spped vans etc to park up.

Other than that take your number plate off and say it must have fallen off if you get stopped.

Thing is, the punishment is never the same you could be doing the same in every court in the country and some you may get a ban some may only give some points. Ultimately I dont think it will be a lengthy ban.

Its easy for Mr Vickers to scare you a little saying they are harsh to get a quick pr forma letter.

You still have not answered the question as to if you received the NIP with in 14 days, or if you have replied to it.

Whats happens if you dont turn up in court ?
Assuming you are going to get a ban and a fine, you would be better staying at work, earning some money to pay for the fine, and saving yourself the BFH.

Right heres my guess 60 days £750 fine if i win newelleys prize of £500 im donating it to olafs fine fund!!!

Yes ... a fine fund indeed ... a very feckin fine fund.

If he goes to court maybe we could all dress up in de-regeur urban camo and ride round and round the court house ... like precinct 13 ... but more *****?

Dan, yes, I got the NIP within 14 days of the offence & I have replied to it.

Have I learnt from this, YES.

As Bay suggests, being careful in areas where likely speed traps may be lurking is sound advice.

I should have known better. Appleby fair was on and there were "travellers" everywhere.

An increased police presence should have been a no brainer.

Newelly, I like the idea, but can I put the "precinct 13" approach on hold, depending on the outcome.

It looks like the plan is :-

Own up to it, admit stupidity.
Out of character because of clean liscence, blah blah blah etc.
I work at a gas processing plant, middle of no where, fluctuating work hours, respond to breakdowns.
Maybe letter from my boss re-inforcing the above.
Possibly letter from a brief.

Final thoughts on the subject before I set off for the Amsterdam ferry, I have been riding fast bikes for a lot of years, this has been a long time coming.

Be careful out there, they WILL get you one day.

Sounds like a plan Olaf but I strongly suggest taking your boss or someone to vouch that you HAVE to drive as part of your job. Sounds like you have a good case for needing to drive to work to me.
