Winter mods check list please.

the older rsvs have the brown connector between the cylinders and the newer have it under the right hand seat i think

Ah i see. Well badgers is a post 04 I think so his would be in a different place to mine, so looks like its the same mod (except I would think badger is going by his meaniing its between the cylinders on the newer shape and on the side on the earlier like ours?? )

Have you done this dude?

Check your voltage via a multimeter on to the battery for an accurate reading, mine was 14.4 after wiring mod, with lights on. Didn't check before mod cos of the fooked solenoid. i just followed the instructions on page 1 from the original poster, and put a 30A fuse on the new pos+ wires. you could go down the alternative reg/rec but you have to cut and solder the wire's anyway so might as get just do the wire mod. thats my thoughts anyway....

As for actually doing the wiring, it's straight forward once the tail unit is off so you can see the wiring, i just printed off the page so i had it to hand while doing it. Just take your time and work through it, 1 step at a time

Cheers mak, aint got a voltmetre buddy or I would, I think the dash is consistant, they just read half a volt lower then a voltmetre to the terminals is all.

what gauge wire did you use in the end? and where was your brown connector? this is on a pre 04 yeh?

yes i did i have a 03 and it was on the right hand side under the tank if i remember correctly but i might be mistaken as i did it to a friend with the 04+ model which is the oposite. just have a look you will see thos 3 yellows there easily

So you just got rid of the connector all together I take it?

On mine (03) the reg/rec is located on the right side subframe basicly where the pillion seat is, the brown & white connections are about 4" farther towards the battery, if you remove the seat unit, you can get to everything, i just soldered the spades for a better connection/less resistence but if you wanted to cut and solder the wires 2gether instead, no problem. tbh it would probably be the best option but as i'm getting good voltage, i'll leave it as it is, on mine.

You can get a cheap multimeter for about £15 from any local market/tool store, it's all you need for the odd job...

Cheers again guys. Did you both add the extra wires too? two red two black about 1.5ft each...

must get the bike off the road so I cant tackle this, as the bike is getting less trust worthy the colder it gets, and every failed start sounds painful...

i have not as i never heard of it. what i do for the winter i park the mille in the garage where the temperature goes to 0 only ocasionally while i keep a spare old poor battery in the bike. the good ytx 14bs battery is recharged and kept in warm all the time. if you do not intend to drive the bike during the winter do not keep the battery there and even if you do it is better to keep the batt inside remake the plugs for hot plugs and remake the seat screws to quick release ones and put the battery in every morning or just when you drive. but i think you already know all that lol :)

Its was in the instructions in that link that mak595 gave me, have a look and see if you did something different :)

I`m thinking I was going to up rate the battery to a recommended one anyway, so as i`m putting it away for the winter I will leave the one in it, and start the bike a run it for at least once a week, maybe on trickle charge too, then slap the new one on in the spring when I`m gong to start riding it.

What are "hot plugs"?

And the quick release bolts might not be a bad idea, but i wont need them that much as hopefully after all the mods i wont need regualar access to the battery. (as I have a charger lead coming ouy from under the seat)

Yep but the wires ended up shorter than 1.5ft once it's done, i made a extra little loom with the 4 wires, shrink wrapped so it looks neat

good idea, threading them through that existing sleeve sounds like a right pain in the arse for no reason..

Anyone got a good link for thins sidestand mod while i`m making my shopping list? whats the crack with that??

Dunno, not looked into that...i assume it would bypass the cut out, joining the wires to make a curcuit, at a guess :dunno

Sounds like a good guess to me, I`m sure someone will be along soon to confirm it.....

...hellooo??

:D

Just found thism not seen such a clear picture of the ecu derestriction before and didnt even know about the plate in the airbox?

Two more things I can check off the list! TBH would be a result if they aint done. Like free BHP :D

what/which ecu restriction?

RSVs (all I think, someone will confirm) are restricted to 98bhp from the factory. Pretty much all had the de restriction done on sale I think. But dont hurt to check!

My ECU wire was cut but it still had the top hat restriction in the airbox...

....until last week :)

Got out 2day, did about 120 miles, it seemed a bit more free reving with new airbox (evo) but November and racetec's arn't a great combo ;)

the wire is not a restriction. it is just a map for non-opened airbox. a cut wire on stock airbox might not be the best idea
