Who is buying an RSV4?

Yes it's true i am that lanky, slightly over 6ft 4"

848/1098 is more roomy legs to pegs than the rsv and slightly shorter bars to seat but it fits me fine.

The v4 is also more roomy than it looks. Uli from MPL sent me details and pics from intermot and he is 6ft 2 and it was ok for him despite looking like it wouldn't be.
As they also run an aprilia race team with smaltmoto they approached the head of tech about v4's for 2009 season.
The tech said don't do it, not yet.

They had a few issues with it still as of intermot in Nov with overheating clutches beeing the main i believe. The tech also said that most spares would not come on line till probably the 3rd quarter of 2009 as they catch up with production and have some surplus.

If it were me and i wanted one for sure mid/late 2009 would be the time i would do it. There will be teething issues i'm sure. This is the first in house superbike engine they have ever built remember. It has loads of potential but the first few owners will be guineau pigs to real world testing and i'm sure the price will fall in time at the dealers.

For me i don't want a v4 and the looks don't set me on fire. I don't dislike it but it doesn't make me go wow either. Personally i don't care how fast or powerful a bike is if the looks don't make me go wow. The RSV has more speed potential than my talent as a rider can exploit to the max so i wanted something in a twin format with similar power that made me go wow. 180 bhp might as well be 100 if i can't use it unless it's from the lights and i'm not that sort of rider.

Enter the 848. 134 bhp (122 real world back wheel bhp) and it made me go wow. ticked all the boxes. Plus 90% of Uk Aprilia dealers are complete *** heads. V4 with teething problems and a warranty backup likely to be supported by the supplying dealer only ? no thanks. If you didn't know only selected dealers can supply and support the v4 after jumping through some Aprilia hoops to be allowed too, and we read the warranty stories on here all the time, or lack of warranty support to be exact.

Aprilia are close to my heart having had them for years and i watch with interest what they do but they have to get their act together as a company to succeed especially in the current market. Don't matter if you have the best bike in the world if it spends 5 months waiting for parts, and a dealer to fit them. been there before. :confused
Their school report would read, loads of potential and improving slowly but must do better.

Good report that Spoonz. Factual tempered with experience.

Enjoy the Ducati - at least that's been in production a while.

I'm definitely not gonna get one any time soon as I only bought my new RSVR in September and it STILL only has 700 miles on it! However I would consider an RSV4 in the semi distant future once a couple of significant things have occurred, which Spoonz among others has mentioned already. The price comes down significantly and it's been around for at least two years and the inevitable kinks have been worked out.

However I musy say that there's never been so many bikes that I'm interested in floating around at the same time. The RC8 is a possibilty once it's also met the my previously stated requirements for the RSV4. I'm also interested in the BMW S1000RR, The new R1, and the new GSXR1000, and next years GSXR750 and R6 too among many many others. I've also got my eye on the impending Moto Morini Tarquinio for 2010 although for me personally it's more of a dream bike scenario than a serious possible purchase.

To sum it up I'm gonna wait for them all to do a couple years probation and in the case of the japs bikes maybe pick up a bargain when the 2 yearly update occurs. Although having said that I may well just keep my RSV instead as I really think it'll be a minor modern classic.

Not for me either i think given what's in the market at the moment i like the look of the new R1 and the KTM RC8R That's my opinion at the present time until we actually see the aprilia V4 then opinion's may well change

The RSV4 aint for me either :dunno

I really do wish buyers all the best ..... on paper its a stunna. At 4 grandish dearer than the new R1 it will have to be fookin good.

I got all my Aprilia RSV,s 2000, 2002 and 04 models because they were V-Twins and the engine is brilliant ( Rotax manufactured ). Not because they were Aprilia's.

My latest bikes a 2004 year ..... so its now been nearly 5 years and still aint had my swingarm replaced. I aint had the best of service from official Aprilia dealers round my way :rant that said they've disappeared anyhow.

I'm now relying on local independents to service the bike or when I can, do something myself ..... I'm a carbon laminator FFS not a mechanic :dunno

Has the Griff-ster any plans to bring his talents / skills to North Yorkshire :thumbup:thumbup ..... count me in.

I nearly traded the RSV for the 848 recently, was blown away by my first ride on one ....... What stopped me was the RSV handled better with a pillion.

As for the future ?? me gonna keep the RSV1000R and keep my eye on the Cafe Racer Buell ...... thats got the new Rotax engine the RSV's should have been having :rant :rant :rant

I Loved riding the 1098S it was awesome as was last years ZX10R

Gonna book a test on the RSV4 but im even more excited about getting my hands on the new R1!!

By the way Griff whose was that mega high mileage RSV SP on the stand?

Im not Griff but was working on the stand for a couple of days....it is owned by one of the Clubaprilia members, namely...Dickwad....!!

Incidently, I'm not lookin to go back to a four for some time as Im still relatively new to the Mille and V-twins and lovin it, but if I were to be in a position to change I would defo go for the R1 as opposed to the V4..

dickies bike has done just over 4000 miles mate, not really high milage...

boyler , gimme a call mate with some contact details , im there for ya mate!!! no worries!

What do people know of this BMW 1000rr??

Just what I've read on the net or in mags etc. 190kg wet and 190bhp at the crank. Traction control and ABS as standard, and a price tag between 10 and 12k. Deposits can be taken from March this year and it will be on sale late 2009 or early 2010.

Could all be a complete load of arse but if those facts and figures are even close to right it can't be ignored as a serious tool.

I personally find it interesting that a massive proven company such as BMW enter a previously (largely) unexplored market sector and go straight for the jugular of the competition.

This year's litre plus superbike test is going to be the most interesting yet in my opinion with more bikes and choice/engine configurations than ever before. Just ponder the line up for a second; Aprilia RSV4, BMW S1000RR, Ducati 1198, Honda Fireblade (ABS), Kawasaki ZX10RR, KTM RC8, Suzuki's new GSXR1000K9, and Yamaha's new and unique R1. - I can't wait...I think a bit of wee just came out!

190 bhp probably not far off but 190 kg wet sounds bit suspect as v4 is the heaviest engine cofig :)

It's not a v4 but a typically jap-esque in line four cylinder 999cc engine. BMW have simply copied the japs and put a bit of their own BMW flavour into it.

Ironically MCN ( More Crap & Nonsense?) have today literally just released pictures and specs of the road going S1000RR and they're either confusing or disappointing, or both, depending how you look at it. MCN are stating it's got 175bhp although they don't specify if that's crank or rear wheel, but I'd guess it must be rear wheel for it to be competitive.

In terms of weight MCN are adamently claiming 183kg dry which essentially makes it impossible to have a wet/curb weight of 190kg. However there seems to be a million and one ways to quote weight so if by dry they mean minus a tank of fuel then 200kg fully wet (battery, all fluids and full tank of fuel) is possible, likely and class leading if true. However it definitely has ABS and traction control as standard which while pretty cool and probably worthwhile, will add considerable weight so 210kg+ fully wet is more likely I'd imagine.

Interestingly there's still no price qouted, probably because it's a whopper and they don't want to put anyone off at this early stage! :devious

i know little1uk has a deposit down.

-:banana

I no longer have a deposit down as i can never get a straight answer as to when it will finally arrive, i dont believe these bikes will be available until late in the year so im now looking at the RC8, Aprilia need to get their act together as i know 3 others that have withdrawn deposits :rant:rant

If ever Aprilia needed to get it 100% right in terms of spares. warranty and supply it was this bike.

Given it's cost and the depressed economic climate it has to have everything absolutaly going for it to succeed.
I have a gut feeling Aprilia's existance as a manufacturer hangs on this bike as a commercial success. Lets face it they have little else in their range currently that could sell in numbers.

Lets hope they don't pluck defeat from the jaws of victory.

Yes i understand they need to get it right but lets be honest they started to hype the bike up nearly 2 years ago, i had a deposit on for 8ish months and have been told 4 delivery dates all of which came and went, had Aprilia been honest from the start and explained it will not be released until a mountain of spares had been produced and mechanics trained customers may have more tolerance and wait, but then again ya struggle to get parts for exsisting models and i believe the same will happen whatever they produce.

At the end of the day Aprilia have now got to give a date and stick to it regardless of spares.
