Lotta talk about sidestands at the mo,so here's my 6p worth.
Recently fitted the U.S sidestand to my T.From the pic,you can see that its a lot more beefyer than the Euro stand.

Euro stand on the left,U.S version on right.
Mine cost £54 inc post from the 'States.Origionally,I had bought just the stand, but when I fitted it to the bike,I soon realised that the bracket was wrong.:eekA quick e-mither to the breaker and the bracket was on its way.
To fit,all I had to do is remove the stand switch. This was a bit of a ******* as the 8mm headed bolt is incredibly tight and threadlocked into the pivot bolt.
Switch removed,I removed the stand and bracket. The rear bolt is threaded into a lug on the engine. The front has a locknut behind the lug.Its in a recess and a bit of a ******* to get at.I used a socket on a wobble bar,...going thru where the exhaust curls round.Bolt head is 13mm,but the nut is a 15mm.Once its away, its a simple job of bolting the new stand in place,.....remembering to refit the switch!:rolleyes
The only slight hassle was the Abba stand.Despite me fitting the stand in the down position,it still fouled the Abba.:banghead Got it off by lifting the back up with my old faithfull paddock stand,..then undoing the Abba.
Anyroadup, the new stand is brilliant. The bike is rock steady and there is no fouling issues with the chain or exhaust.:thumbup

Which begs the question why not just order the bracket? I've never heard of a stand snapping

Why the f*** do (did) Aprilia fit different stands to European (or is it just U.K.?) bikes when the U.S. ones are plainly better? :dunno

US type approval, the laws governing the safety & emissions etc... reqires every motorcycle stand to be able to support the rider AND passenger.

No such regs exist in Europe, more's the pity. The difference in manufacturing cost would be just pence.

are peoples bikes actually toppling off the stand or is it just the feeling the bike is pivoting ,I always give mine a double kick as it feels ropey

Yes mate, the std. Euro stand is too close to the bike to give a sure footing.A bit of uneven ground, and she could topple over.Mine did,but thankfully I caught it in time.Someone one here had one fall over in the wind.

Also, watch out if you get a rear puncture...... good chance it will fall over. Got a pucture the day i bought mine, bike would not stand up on its own with a flat back tyre

:(

I was on the dunoon ferry last yr and there was a mille that fell over in fair calm conditions as well cracked the fairing not good....funny thing was as we were giving him a hand to lift it, he said that he had a fireblade stand ready to go on.....oh well lol

Right fair play that has now moved up my to do list
Don't hang about mate. Mine got blown over by a gust of wind. I'd heard all the rumours, and thought it was bollocks. How wrong was I? Bastid thing cost me £640 to sort out.

Also, a year earlier, the rear tyre went down whist it was parked up in the shed, I found it leaning over against the shed wall.

I have an old gixer & that side stand is terrible. All the old reviews used to advise that the bike will fall over.

The main problem with them is that the stand is too near the centre line of the bike & the pad on the end is too small.

It would regularly force its way into tarmac, especially after the tarmac has warmed up during the day.

Many a time I have found it leaning well over (or actually on its side).

From years of being paranoid about parking & always try to select a suitable place, I always carry something to spread the load / get better support under the stand, even a flat pop can helps.

Good to see things dont change.

Mine blew over in the wind last year, I put a bubsewoo item on, much better.

It was the first thing I did to the bike.

USA ebay is the place to look.

Still cant find one anywhere :dunno

Look on German E Bay, this is where I got mine after a site reccomendation. Maybe the link is in an older thread. think mine cost about £45.00 including delivery, as KB said needed to transfer the existing bracket to the new one but the job is a piece of piss otherwise.

Got mine from canada - Stand was $50 canadian inc Bolts / bracket /switch & wiring......delivery was $15 canadian... keep your eyes peeled - they do come up.

Dunno if it helped - but seller wrote "second hand Ducati parts" - Made in italy (Europe) on the package (he thought they mite not have heard of Aprilia) = no import duty or VAT to pay...

:)

Hey Tricky
Think Keith said you need the US / canada bracket to go with the US / canada stand (the breaker sent it on to him) if you look at his picture you can see a clear difference in the angle of the bracket..

Not saying that it wouldnt be an improvement without as i havent seen one like that ...yet - but i would have thought that a longer stand at the same angle as the UK one would make things worse ?
