Had a little race on the Dyno with my dads GSXR1000K4.

I Have Acro exhausts, Evo Air Kit, PCIII and a custom map.

He has Fuel end can, K&N, PCIII and a custom map.

The result:

Not only does the GSXR have 20bhp more it also has more power at 80% throttle than I do at 100%. I always knew that it would have more power thats wasn't a problem but the fact he also has 6 ft-lbs more torque and at no point is the V Twin higher!

So much for the V twin having more punch out of the corners!!
I don't get it!

Even though other RSVRs on here have more power and torque (Badger for example with 138bhp and 78 ft-lbs) And may have a little more mid range the GSXR doesn't seem like many RSVR would have much of an advantage out of a corner.

I think that in the new era of big capacity IL4's, the twins do suffer whereas a few years back they were the kings of grunt.

I had a similar debate a year or so back with an RSV owner that his RSV had more grunt than an old Bandit 12 I had at the time, unfortunately the dyno figures do not lie and the Bandit was the proven champion of grunt.

Think its really a case of what do you prefer riding on the road really. I prefer the laziness of a twin on the road but the manic revs of an IL4 on the track. I must admit though I am sorely tempted to try a newish Gixer 1000 on the road to see what they are really like....

I had an 02 R1 for 4 years, this is the best model regards engine. loads of grunt. When I bought my RSV I was initially surprised at how relatiely gutless it was in comparison..But I'd got bored with IL4's plus the R1 didn't feel like it was going fast until YOU WERE going really fast. The Aprilia gives me the same enjoyment but at slower speeds.. Plus love the sound. Horses for courses.

Bear has just part exed his gsxr 1000, I think it was a k5/k6 for the 05 RSVR, because it was more manageable to ride. I personaly prefer the power delivery of the twin it seems to be much easier to ride and more useable power, but saying that I dont confess to be fast, and would never be able to use all the power potential of either bike which I think is what it boils down to in the end:dunno

I think it's a common misconception that a V-Twin inherently has more torque. It's more about how that torque is delivered than the amount. A V-Twin is quicker out of corners because of the firing pattern of a twin - it gives the tyre a better chance to grip hence the 'big bang' firing order employed on some IL4 race bikes used to try to replicate this.

Personally I prefer a Twin for it's 'lazy' delivery over the 'buzzy' feel of a four but each to their own :)

gxrs and the like may be more powerful, but as was said its the vtwin characteristics that I like.(and the fact that mines way lighter than a gxr1000) gives me all the fun I need(on the road)
Ck

I think you have to read into the power delivery as much as the figures.

The twin power delivery has always been kinder to tyres (pre traction control) because the tyre has time to recover grip between pulses compared to the 4 pulses of the IL4.

In real terms for the street rider how many can use the full potential of the Gsxr for the most part. If you get anywhere near using 2/3 of that total torque/power coming off a corner on the roads then your a seriously good rider.
The twin is a popular power configuration I think partly because it allows you to make better use of what is available for 75% of street riders.

Most 600's would run rings round a 1000 IL4 in the twisties with similar level riders on it and lets face it that is where the fun is for the most part.

Me personally i struggle to fit on anything japanese anyway so i'm not spoilt for choice but i still wouldn't want a jap 4. They are fantastic, reliable bikes but just a bit bland.

Kinder to tyres?? Must be me then :devious First set of corsa 111's lasted 1500 miles, this set 1700..

Regarding jap reliability, I think they've pushed the boundaries of light weight too far. My R1 ate its gearbox at 18k (Common fault apparently, which also effects the R6) The ZX9R before that blew its head gasket at the mileage (18k) Two people I know with the same models also had head gasket problems, one then had his cylinder head crack.

But agree they are getting too small physically for a lot of people, some guys look plain silly on them.

That was one of the main reasons why I went for the 1000, not for rider ability just size.

Whoo was just going to mention size matters..But my excuse is I'm watching 'Loose Women' and they can't go 10 minutes without some inuendo..And they've the cheek to say thats all men think about. :biggrin

by Kinder to tyres i mean in terms of allowing them to grip more than longevity.

The latest R6 feels like a minimoto when i sit on it. Not built for tall people at all.

Thats the reason you don't see many Kawasaki ZX12's in the showrooms..Dealer I spoke to said they're snapped up as soon as they arrive..Big lads want sports bikes too..

As rsvnelly said i used to have a K6 gixer thou. The only reason i got it was that the newer 750 was far too small to get my fat on. But after owning it for about 8 month i decided i wasnt getting on with all that power 170bhp at the wheel with 86 ftp. So thought id try the rsv with its big bike size and more managable power i loved it from the off.

I've decided I'm going to save up for the mivv can and power comd. not sure how long it's going to take, and just see if it does make much difference when it's set up right>

I know it's off thread but I thought the old srad had the size right, if they were still making them in that size thats what I would of got. It's not as if they dont have enough power, I love my Factory though now I'm starting to get more used to it just wish it wasn't as tall.

maybe tweak the ride height a bit rsvnelly - or if you still cant get on with it, ill gladly take it off your hands for a mars bar and a packet of skittles :)

Cheers Dolestar I'll bear that in mind, family size of course and not the sour ones lol

blah blah blah about bhp forget it! its all about the rider never have any problem destroying any il4 in the twisties 1000 or 600 the mille can be used and abused and keeps coming back for more . the fun is coming out of the corners and watching the il4's change down cause there all peaky power ive had them and will never go back:thumbup yes they may have the top end as all the car park morons tell you but half of them cant ride for ****
and all of them are becoming minimotos us larger gentlemen will struggle :lol:lol

I did own a fireblade until it disappeared up the crack of my arse:devious, never been seen since:thumbup

Do you sit lop sided now though ?

Actually i insulted a Fireblade owner in Spain once as i thought it was a CBR600 it was so small. Had a sit on an MV 1000 out there as well and that even looked big in comparison to the Fireblade.
