Mark (TarkMalbot) is probably one of the few people on here that can actually push a bike to its limits and could notice the difference in bike set-ups etc.
I really don't think he is putting his RSV-R down, at the end of the day he paid for it with his own money!

There is no such thing as a bad bike from the major firms these days just different bikes.

Lots of points seem to get lost along the way. TarlMalbot's point was that the GSXR has more torque than the RSV so the theory of the twin being "the" engine for grunt and drive often is now not the case. Valid point.

The point others made is power isn't everything unless you have the skill to use it. Still a Valid point.

Some people buy an Rsv just because it fits and looks good. Valid point too

Everyone is right and no one is wrong. :thumbup

It's opinions and if everyone's was the same we would all be boring.
Long may it continue.

I think that about sums it up.

Thanks for the compliments V8..

And just to back the RSVR up a little I raced the RSVR factory 2004 with 155bhp tuned by renegade exhausts and southern cross round Brands in the Super Twins and MRO powerbikes and managed a 49 second lap. This was a test for RiOT racing.. They invited me into the team to ride a GSXR1000K1 with 185bhp for 2005. I had to ride a lot harder and wasn't as comfortable on the GSXR and struggled to get into a 50 second lap..

So power isn't everything and the GSXR1000K1 is a Dog! lol

Thats a bold statement mate, have you seen mark and others off the forum ride to make any comparisons ?

I think he is going by race performances in MRO powerbikes, Supersport 600s and World Superstock and a few essex bikers track days rather than our personal riding together. And he did cover himself by saying one of a few. lol

Not trying to open up another urinating contest, little1uk, but I think Tark has already qualified his pedigree as a rider.....

So a Mille with the same power output and torque as an IL4 should leave an IL 4 for dead then, if you can lap quicker Mark on an underpowerd bike then it must be the engine characteristics that are enabling you to lap quicker (assuming the handling and tyres is sorted on both bikes etc), the GSXR with more power and torque should propel you to the next corner quicker, my money is on the twin being able to be driven harder through the corner which in turn will propel you along the next straight a bit better, probably enabling you to stay relatively close to the IL4, unless of course the next straight is quite long allowing the IL4 to use that extra power.

The majority on here are road riders and the most important thing in my opinion is to have sorted suspension, forget the outright power/torque, if the bike handles nice you will be a lot quicker as a result of having more confidence.

The track is a different kettle of fish and needs differ completely compared to road riding.

I have had a diet of IL4's and have no real desire to buy another at present, having covered over 50K miles on Mille's on the road i just :inlove em to bit's:thumbup

Having only ever raced the RSVR and GSXR back to back on Brands Indy circuit I found that the RSVR was just so much easier to ride in regards to the way it went round corners and powering out of them. It was set up much better than the GSXR and I found the GSXR to be a lot bigger in regards to leaning over the tank and how I was sat on top of the bike (pea on a drum style). The Cresent subframe had me sat too high and the rear spring was too hard giving me little feel over the back end. In that respect I do like the way I could feel the RSVR and even in the wet I found it to handle like a dream. And the GSXR was mental power delivery! It was only running on the primary butterflies and tuned to the max with 200bhp (185 ish at the back wheel) so it was like an on and off switch and had a lot of power! I did notice when I raced the RSVR in the Powerbikes the GSXRs R1s etc did have the legs on me coming onto the straight and that was with me giving it as much as I could out of Clearways and Clark Curve.

I would love to race the RSVR again but that wasn't with my own money! I would like to race the Supertwins again but think it would cost me too much in repairs if I crashed! Saying that the amount I have spent tuning my 600 to be as fast as other front runners I could have had two RSVRs!! And I like the Supersport 600s cos I seem to go just as fast on them as I do on the 1000's and they have the most competitive grids. I don't like how some clubs race 250's, 750's and V Twins on the same grid. I prefer the packed 40 bike grids of the 600's. Gives you a better sence of pride when you finish on the podium. And the 1000's hate it when you beat them in the open class! lol

It reminds me a race a few years ago on a very small track around here, it was shaped roughly like an 8 and very rough, lots of bumps. In the same race imagine a Suzuki SV-650 holding up to a ZX-10R ... What you could see, was the SV starting is drive by the middle of the turn (easy to ear against IL4) while the ZX10 had to wait until it was almost completely straight up to start is drive then rapidly gain on the poor SV but as it came even with the SV the ZX then had to start braking as it was coming a lot faster than the SV, meanwhile the SV was going way deeper into the curve courtesy of engine braking. I must say it was an eye opener as for power delivery and engine caracteristic of IL4 against V-TWIN. However rest assured that different racetrack will produce different result.

My 10p worth... I rode a K7 1000 with 186bhp at the rear wheel, its had very few mods to achieve this. Yep its mental. I saw 172 mph where my 02 Mille (129bhp) can just touch 150 and thats firing it out of a corner. Its a buzz. This one had a full Micron system and sounded as fast as it went.

Okay... Problem, it sounded fast. Just say your riding along to work and you are pushing the limit of the law. If plod see you on a in line 4, you look and SOUND like your going faster. On a twin, you pulse past. On a IL4 its more of a BUZZ past, it grabs attention. Although my buddy on said bike loves the attention... stupid wide boy. :jack

In the dry he can only pass me on a VERY long straight, I am, ahem, a far better rider. In the wet tho, a V-twin will pass ANY IL4. 2CT's help the cause no doubt.

ive said all along flick it is the rider unless you are on a very very long straight but my dog can ride in a straight line anyfooker can.
had a laugh with a r1 on a dual carriageway yesterday put it straight on the rear wheel on power and watch him having to clutch it after 2 attempts he got it up and it made me laugh. then he decide to show me the power of his r1 and low and behold i was glued to him like snot on a blanket and he then started to panic both gained air off a rounderbout and he kept looking in the mirrors thinking what the fook is this mille still doing here? he pulled up at the lights and i just smiled game over fella:thumbup
just annoyed it didnt continue as it would have been bye bye
(meanwhile his mate bottled it on the other r1 )
