TL1000S? Brave, brave man! A guy I worked with had one, it was always hilarious watching him get out of shape through the corners, over bumps, standing next to it.
I've ridden some dogs in my time, worse one still goes to the Firestorm I borrowed, shocking, spongey peice of crap that one. The Buell, despite it breaking down every 47 seconds is a bench mark when it comes to cornering.
I honestly didn't think I'd find better but this Tuono lark is something else. I'm completely smitten (even without Ohlins!)
If the shocks give out I promise to buy Ohlins and report back!

Now where's pikeman when u need an opinion as well. Maybe and forgive me fellas for sticking a spanner in the works but could miskin have a half decent shock like some have half decent back brakes. Just a suggestion. Plus if he only weighs 11 stone it might just work for him. For me at 15 stone it prob wouldnt. I've had too many bacon sarnies with mates in cafes ;)

that's where carefully applied throttle control and large testicles play their part. I've always believed if people can't use physical throttle control without race suspension and technical aids then their probably on a bike that's too big for their talent limit. I've never felt the need for fancy suspension on my zx10r, Buell or Tuono and I've never been put in a hedge. I ride through the niggles that people moan about (quicker than most) with little drama. While my mates are fitting their latest race gadget or fine tuning or tweaking or generally talking bollocks about speed, control etc etc I'm out there riding the country roads, enjoying every second on my Tuono R with it's standard suspension which works perfectly. When the wanna be's with there ohlins, carbon fibre, Japanese track ready toys want to play I'm always ready and when I pull over at the next cafe and wait for them to catch up, I'll be enjoying my bacon sarnie.[/QUOTE/

dear mr wiskers, i would be the first to admit to the Tuono 1000r being a much better bike than i am a rider, i'm addicted to the heart palpitations that the Tuono 1000r gives me; through the bikes ability, i get to try new and exciting experiences, i have set up my own suspension and what i am finding with the rear shock; is that i have a very limited range of adjustments to play with, i would also like to have the adjustable ride height, which the Ohlins, amongst others has, yes, i like some bling to pretty the ol girl up, just little individual touches, and when these little peices of bling bring so much enjoymentl; i can only say "why the **** not

on my extensive riding experience on the T (about 28 miles thus far) i can report its got springy bits at both ends.
To be serious for a minute it did feel a bit odd, firm at the front and a bit spongy at the back which well just felt a bit odd. Might pop up to tamworth to get it set up.

I'm tha same weight as wiskin, 11 stone, and I thought the standad rear shock was dire, I only kept it on a for a few hundred miles as it was oversprung and underdamped and gave me no confidence at all. I'm no superfast rider, but I had the cash to buy a s/h Ohlins off ebay and it's a huge improvement.

Still, each to their own, if you're happy to leave stuff standard then your wallet will be in a much healthier state than mine ever is!

Nice one pikeman knew I could rely on you for an unbiased opinion as you're never renowned to agree with the masses. Ok decided miskin must have a rare shock that work for him while the rest are pants. Or maybe we all need to lose weight ;)

Then I say buy them. I've been lucky, the adjustment I get out of the standard is enough but I'm not very big so its pretty much at the settings from the standard. As for the bling factor, I'm slowing getting that. My Tuono is probably the jazziest bike I've ever had, specially as my usual colour choice is black.
After market products allow you to personalise your bike specially if you love bling and improve it in some respects, and if you need more adjustment than the standard gives you then get on ebay, theres a guy selling front and rear ohlins for a tuono.
I'll probably only swap mine out when the originals have had it. The akraprovics and power commander cost so much my lil woman in doors wasn't happy at all, she has taken a massive life insurance policy out on me so at least I know she still cares.
Let me know if the Ohlins makes a difference, would be interesting. The best mod I did was a 15 tooth sproket on the front, you lose a little bit of top but I don't knw about you but I can barely hang on at 150+. Got much better low end pull out the corners.

150+ bugger that!

Ok, my two-penneth. I've had the bike about a year, not put that many miles on it yet. 03 Fighter Gen1 pretty standard especially suspension.

Before I had it it was well fettled by Weeksy, including a suspension set-up. He weighs about the same as me, 12.5 stone.

Not done any track days or that many miles as I said, but it feels fine for my limited abilities.

Although, it has been said on here many times that the Gen1 shock in standard form is better than the Gen2s?

To be honest I'm not massively clued up on the Tuono history, I was all set to buy a speed triple when the morning of the sale I cast my eye in the direction of my know beloved 2007 Tuono. Compared to my other toys the standard suspension was far superiour to the rubbish, harsh zx10 and my Buell doesn't run long enough to be able to compare properly.
Double bubble screen on the way, an absolute must I've discovered!

Yes it is. It's still a bit poor - as Gilo says overdamped and undersprung - and that's according to Dave at Firefox Racing who has set up my last few bikes.
The standard item on the R model is a piece of *****, and Aprilia should be fekkin ashamed of themselves for selling it. According to our suspension chappie these units cost about €30 to Aprilia. We bought an R model new in 07, officially my wife's bike, she has a slightly dodgy back and the pogo stick back end (compared to my Ohlins shod Tuoldo) gave her problems. We fitted an Ohlins unit from AF1 and it's much smoother over bumps, front end just needs a set up for road use.
Piss taking to one side, there is no amount of adjustment will sort the rear shock on an R model, like the old TL1000 it's rear shock is just rank. If all you have to compare it too are heavy Jap nakeds, it will probably feel brilliant, but ride with an equally skilled rider using an upgraded shock over a bumpy B road, and you will be struggling where he isn't even aware there is a problem.

If the cost of an Ebay unit of around £200 sounds like a waste of money, consider the fact that when you sell the bike it can be removed and resold for pretty much the same cash.

For balance, Manxton, Peske or other equivalent units will do the same job, The RSVR Sachs unit (~£50 or less) is much better too.

Why do I have Ohliins? Because when I contacted Manxton they never replied, and Penske wanted too much cash. The Swedish made Ohlins was cheaper from Texas than in the UK because ot the exchange rate at that time, including the VAT I had to pay on receipt.

When I decided to change the Tuoldo there was only one option, Factory.:yes

I like reading Batfastards replies. They really are full of information. Getting my suspension set up this summer Batfastard. Probably take a ride up to Griffs and get him to have a look at it. Gilo mentioned coming as well so make a day of it one Saturday me thinks before the main summer session

sounds like a good plan, AF1Windy and I took ours over to Dave at Firefox in Keighly last spring, best £20 spent on the bike.
I need to get our two serviced before summer starts, was trying to get Griff to come here, and do it on his travels. Might have left that a bit late now.

He's down at Bristol soon and said he'd bring his tape measure down to set it up down there but I'm not sure I can get down there when he's there. Some kind of show that Tuboy, Windy and Gilo will be going to showing off some Italian Exotica. Would be nice to go but not sure I can make it.

Isn't it the Bristol Italian festival thing. Bit far for us, but looks like a good crack.
