My first Twin!

Just a small update, soldered a new wire into my left hand switch gear to allow all headlights to be on when using full beam.

Trip to maplins sorted me out with bits I need for the brown and white connector mods..

Now not sure what mod to do...

Either this one as I had originally planned - http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?64758-Wire-mod-instructions-for-Dummies-Like-ME!

Or - http://apriliaperformance.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?t=280&start=0

These are all the same modifications, I've had my bike for 7 years & never had to do these but mine has got the 150a solenoid & bigger battery, that said batteries only seem to last 2 years so I may have a go at these, simple enough :thumbup

Does this lighting mod make much difference :dunno as most of the time you have to use low beam anyway. Only ever ridden mine a couple of times at night & I found the lights so poor they border on dangerous  there's a thread somewhere on fitting HID lights

Did this mod today - http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?64758-Wire-mod-instructions-for-Dummies-Like-ME

Seems to have more power starting up and at idle charges the battery @ 14.6 well chuffed.

I did the light mod as I didn't see the point having a light turn off when on full beam. The lights aren't as bad as the candle powered ones I had on my old CBR 400 but aren't great. I did install HIDS on my CBR 400 and Blade which were awesome but are now unfortunately illegal...

Why are they illegal, most new cars have high intensity lights blinding everyone, especially bloody chelsea tractors :rant

If they come factory fitted, have auto dip and washer jets they are legal.. got them fitted to my C250 company car and they are awesome :thumbup

Its when they are retro fitted they can blind a lot more, I believe it was January 2012 when they became illegal..

They may be awsome if there fitted to your car, fookin menace for everyone else :roll anyhoo never really bothered if things fitted to bike are illegal or not, if I did alot of night riding think I'd do the HID conversion :devious

I stripped the back end off today to do this mod but got distracted by the alarm wiring and seeing how easy it will be to remove (easy peasy).
I have 13.95V at idle and something close to that at 4K rpm.
Gonna do the mods anyway as I have all the kit. my brown plug looked as new with no signs of getting hot ever.
I will solder the crimps only on this.
Observed some strange happenings in the startup weirdness too.

Nice one, should get a good increase on that.. I didn't measure mine before :doh but didn't want to piss of my neighbours as it was early..

I know what you mean about the alarm wiring, I was alarmed when I saw it... :dowhat

My brown connector was the same, no sign of every getting hot, I removed it though and soldered direct.

Gave the rear end a clean also, looked as if the tail had never been off before!

Been wondering today why my oil is already black and 4.5L seemed to over fill the res... upon further reading I have found I didn't unscrew the engine drain bolt!!

I only drained from the oil filter housing and res bolt... :argh

and your airbox will now be full of oil because thats where it goes if you overfill!!
You should check the level when the engine is at full working temp i.e. after a 10 min ride!

Hopefully not, I only took it down the road to get some petrol and to check the level after it was warmed up. Only rode it for 15 mins max, Ah well soon find out!

More oil and a filter to be ordered soon :Oo

I'm sorry, and I do feel evil, but that made me laugh out loud :D.
Everyone has mechanical kludges from time to time though ;).

Lol glad it got a laugh.. me and my mate were in stitches I did think it was odd with the oil still being black...
