Motorcycle sat nav recommendations?

Yes mate i got the V2 Plus like Alans.

Will be installing the TT7 software etc, its meant to be quiet straight forward. This is the first Sat Nav ive brought so a learning curve for me!

the tomtom installation could not be easier. just register on the forum, ignore any posts about how to do it as they may be talking about old version. just go straight to the downloads page after account activation and download the compressed file (.rar which is like a .zip file) for the version that you want, GB or western europe.

uncompress the files into a directory on your computer and go straight to the instructions .pdf file and follow those :thumbup

i got my telferizer last night and fitted it. looks good and will do the job, but bloody expensive for just a ball, a custom made small piece of turned aluminium, a length of m6 studding and a washer and nyloc nut.

Have you got any pictures of it mate? If there that simple i will machine my own :devious How do they mount exactly?

I wanted to have mine under the screen but tried it today and there just isnt enough room. Looks like ill be mounting it to the Yoke.

i think under the screen like the one on the custom copper tube bracket on this post would be a good idea for keeping it out of the rain and shaded from the sun for a good view, but too much faff for me.

i don't have any photos of the install, but the only custom bit really is a turned aluminium piece that the ball screws into and which fits nicely into the centre of the headstock. then there is a long length of m6 studding that protrudes out of the bottom of the top yoke tube onto which a large penny washer (with 2 opposite sides trimmed off) slides and then a nyloc nut. fitting requires removal of the cover that screws to the bottom of the top yoke and the brake lines go through (3x 8mm head short bolts), and then easing away the top of the radiator central trim panel (2 allen head bolts).

this shows you it:

Cheers LC. On my RSV (new Shape) the clocks are a different shape and theres less room under the screen meaning not enough room :confused thats ideally where i wanted it to go.

Plan B like ive already said is to mount it the the headstock, thanks for the link mate i can see exactly what its like now, Very basic indeed. Am i fook paying 30 odd quid for a bit of studding, ill deffo make my own then post up the results :thumbup

Have you wired yours to the bikes battery?

Thanks again!

no probs mate :thumbup

i've not used it on my aprillia yet, only on my vfr where i have a ram mount on my top yoke along with a cigarette lighter socket to plug the power supply into.

on the aprillia i will probably buy a 2 way cigarette lighter socket with usb ports on it from maplin or somewhere and fit a plug to it to plug into the battery charger socket (maplin sell these as radio control car battery pack connectors) and then a standard usb cable can be used to power it.

Coolio :thumbup

I was going to use the car cigarette charger supplied and then buy the fused socket adaptor that wires to the battery.

USB might be the way to go instead then Mmmmm :biggrin

That's a smart mount but you better have a waterproof TomTom fitted, cause if it rains it's gonna get a soaking.

Much better to have it tucked up under the screen and have all the wires tidied away behind the dash. :thumbup

This is my solution

Mine is the first gen rider and it is waterproof. So no probs..
I have Scala Rider fitted to Scuberth S1 and i can hear the nav and have a phone conversation up to 100km/h without problems.
Yhe power for nav is taken from the charging plug of Ctec charger feeds in the power. Obviously I only have the nav unit fitted when needed.

Nop problem - i do not quite get the question...

Did this helped?

Yes. It is nice to know - I personally like measuring ;
It has velcro fastening so it is not permanent.

Does not hurt on spring / autumn to be aware of the ambient temp..

cant see why anyone would need a **** nav?

i just look at a map before i leave. SIMPLES.

Each to their own hey! You must have a very good memory to remember where all the petrol stations are along a route youve never taken before.

Maps are still better but not good for when your riding.

not good memory. just remember towns to pass by or through, then follow road signs.
petrol staions ........... there will always be one unless you need one
