I used to run an early gen2 RSV Factory which was sold last Spring.

I keep pondering a Tuono, maybe a V4 but wonder where the second hand sweet spot is for these in terms of value and reliability ?

Always a sweet spot. I would make sure 12000 mile big service & valve check has been done. I am on my fifth V4. all brilliant. But to my mind the 2016 factory has been the sweetest. Not as many toys on it, but in my opinion the best fuelling of any year I have had. Currently running a 2019. 27000 miles on it. I've had it from new and very few minor niggles.

I had a 2012 Tuono APRC - one of the first V4s which I bought ex-demo with less than 1,000 miles and sold at about 10,000 miles. Simply stunning bike, sublime engine and honestly the best chassis, suspension and brakes I've ever experienced. Great electronics, too. I've had 100s of bikes ... well, OK, maybe 50+, but still a lot! My only niggle was that it was difficult to ride in town, below 30MPH you often needed to slip the clutch because 1st gear is quite tall. The later models changed the gearing ratios and tweaked the length of the inlet tracts to offer better 1st gear manners and a bit more torque at low revs. Definitely recommend. I liked the Pirelli Diabolo Rosso Corsa tyres but they did wear out after about 2000 miles if I rode it fairly gently ... and a lot less if I got over enthusiastic. About 27MPG ridden gently, less when pushed 😁. The seat's quite hard on the early models, apparently better on the ones after. Range is about 120miles on a full tank of fuel. @Gary Barnes's comments above are interesting and if I was going to get another, I'd prob also go for the 2016 Factory. Oh, being a naked bike the Tuono was quite hard to hold on to so I'd be tempted to look at the RSV4 although I did prefer the sitting position with the slightly higher 'bars on my Tuono.
