Who needs Telferizers or Ram mounts :nana

Sprocks, I have TomTom on my PDA too but decided not to use it as it doesn't react well to vibrations and dampness.

Plus I had a bad experience a few years ago, the way the charger/USB cable plugs in to the PDA's means that the connections are delicate and on my old PDA the actual connector broke away from the motherboard.

Looks good though and does the job! :thumbup

hehe i only knocked it up quickly just to try it out, i wont be using it that often anyway :biggrin battery runs out after 4 hours :jack

Prefer maps to be honest :dunno

Looks good sprocker!

I like the way you can check your emails also while your on the move :devious

Well I decided to join the party as well, I ordered the V3 as it was only £51 del free and I didn't need the extra frills on the V2+.

I knew what it was like 'cos a mate had ordered one last week and I had to sort out upgrading it to TomTom for him.

Unit duly arrived this morning (4 days early) only trouble being there was a slight fault on the top left corner of the screen so it's going straight back.

Now we'll see how good ebuyer are, have to say their service so far, both del and dealing with returns has been second to none.

Anyway, within 1/4 hr had TomTom up and running on it complete with Ozzy O' doing the vocals. LOL

Does anyone know if spare mounts are available seperately? Could do with another backing plate to use on the bike.

Can recommend this app to go with any GPS 'TYRE'

http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/index.php

PoP to set up routes in Google ( Maps or Earth) then ride the little bike round the map to check it. click the save button then send to GPS.

Seeemples ! as the meerkat says.:thumbup

Certainly beats pissing around on a 3.5" screen, and you can save to most GPS formats as well.

Best of all, it's FREEWARE. It's that good that for the first time ever I'm thinking of making a voluntary paypal contribution. And I've never bought software in my life!

i can second TYRE and would also like a second mounting bracket if anyone finds anywhere to get them separately

I don't think there will be a direct replacement cradle available as the V3 is an unusual 3 prong type, if you got the V2 I think that's a standard 4 prong.

There are various universal GPS/PDA holders out there. Currys do a Binatone Accessories kit with charger leads, case, travel bag,and mount for about £5.--- Product code 123743---- But all my local stores are out of stock so can't confirm suitability. Someone else may be luckier.

Asda also do a UNIVERSAL AIR VENT HOLDER code 870-8883 for £2.91 which I'm going to look into as that is probably better for the cars.

I already have a Ram kit for a Garmin Street Pilot 3 fitted on the SV, but want a different solution on the Mille, and to be honest the standard cradle doesn't inspire confidence.

It may come down to getting creative with a block of nylon and making a custom holder.

i have the V2 which has a cradle with a wide 'prong' that goes into a slot on the bottom of the unit and a narrow one for the top. it clamps it relatively well. i feel happy with how secure it is and it has just managed a long weekend in the peak district without issues

Mines the same, its actually quite secure :thumbup

What I was referring to was the hook arangement whereby the cradle clips onto the arm. Standard is usually 4 symetrical hooks, the V3 uses a 3 hook arrangement ,2 at the bottom and a single upper.

On having a look thru my Ram-Mount bits and pieces I found a new 2.1/2" dia base x 1" ball ,so I have mounted the system like Hooked showed pics of in post 29.

I'll risk the crappy looking cradle and bolt thru that onto the second ball mount, means I can just transfer the complete Ram-assy from bike to bike then.

I'll get a couple of universal GPS/PDA vent mounts for use in the cars, when I come across them in the shops.

Only thing left to do is run USB power cables on both bikes now.

ah, i see what you mean. i just drilled the back of mine and bolt it to the RAM mount plate using the bolts supplied (thread to fit camera bases) and then i transfer the whole mount from bike to bike by simply undoing the thumbscrew. i fitted a usb cable along the bike to power it, but it doesn't appear to be able to supply enough current to fully charge it when running, only just about keep the batery level constant. that'll be the current limit of the 12v to 5v converter in the adaptor ib ought though (from maplin, 2x cigarette socket, and 2x USB)

Ian mate, i have the V2+ and unfortunately it came with the more uncommom 3 prong clip (2 lower and single upper)......

Have you cam across a replacement clip that, that would fit at all??????

That's what I now plan on doing, it was just that the design of the cradle didn't look very strong so I was looking into replacements.

As you guys don't seem to be having any problems with the supplied plastic one I'll use it as well :thumbup

As regards the charge rate I came across a question in the FAQ's on someones web site ( could well be Maplins) where someone asked about this question. Apparently the GPS needs 5V @ 2A to charge and the aftermarket charger is only rated at 1A !!

All greek to me but it didn't look promising,I was going out to Maplins this morning to get a cable as I'd forgotten( disregarded) this fact as irrelevent.Obviously it isn't!

Someone posted on the Pctailor site complaining about charge times plugged into computer as well, something like 2 nights on charge from flat to fully charged if memory serves. They said the supplied car lead was a better bet,so I'm wondering if the proper lead allows more current thru, can any of our resident electrical types look into it?

I also have a motorola V3 Razr mains charger, that could be the answer for a fast charge. I did read somewhere that if a power lead has the mini USB plug on the end it WILL be 5v.

The things we do to save a couple of quid eh?

Sorry not as yet, Currys do a kit for £5 but most places are out of stock. This doesn't have little tags to fit in the slots, rather large adjustable ears that clamp the sides as it's a car GPS/PDA mount.

Does come with case,12v & mains power leads, bag & mount tho' so will be useful if some could be found.

Asda also do a universal thing in the same style designed to clip on a car's air vents, that may be usefull.

I'm planning on a tour of likely places later today so will let you know if I find anything.
