Man Down (STEFANO).......SERIOUS R.T.A. 23rd DEC

Well I visited Stefano yesterday (Sunday) in hospital in Tunbridge Wells.

I was totally shocked to see how gaunt and frail a fit, very independant man in his 40's could look.:(

I'm just starting to try and understand what he must have been thru since it appears someone left him for dead after running over him in a Transit Van. the pain, halusinations of the drugs etc.

He is still in a lot of pain, needing morphine every night to help him sleep, bed ridden with 2x broken ankles , A broken femur on his right leg, and a seriously flattened/crushed & broken pelvis with a brace holding all the bones in place for another 2 months.

As he is in Hospital about 40 - 50 miles away from home i think he was very pleasantly surprised to see me, as his family normally pop up on a saturday.

He was overwhelmed with all the messages of support and best wishes from everone from the Forum and wanted me to thank everyone for wishing him all the very best.

Hopefully he will get a transfer in the next few weeks so he can be nearer to his wife and son in their hometown hospital.

Anyone that knows him wishing to go and visit him in Tunbridge Wells can PM me and I will give you the details as I think he would be very pleasantly surprised to see some visitors mid week.

Thanks again.
Dave.

Does he have internal injuries ? sounds like he's having a rough time so hope he gets a transfer closer to home, as if he only has a weekly family visit then time must really drag not being able to move around etc.

Did you take him a shag mag :devious

dont know him but just wondered what is insurance is like and what his circumstances are. is his wife and family going to struggle with him not being able to work?

No Sprocker me ol matey I didn't take him a shag mag. hahaha :roll

He is a little conservative I think with that sort of thing being Italian and all that. Besides I dont think that even a copy of MCN would go down too well with his missus at the moment.

Hopefully he will get a transfer in a week or 2 to the south coast hospital with some better hospital food he says.

His Divvy 900 is a writeoff.

He came off on black ice on a dual carriageway bend and was run over by a Transit Van on the other carrigeway going the other way the paramedics said.

The police haven't even seen him or spoken to him yet.:roll

So he knows no more about this van, which doesn't appear to have stopped or reported hitting anything to the Police.:dunno

He may have to sell his 02 Yellow RSV R in the not too distant future if money becomes a problem he said.

Haven't asked him about a claim tho as yet off his own Insurance.Whether he can or not I do not know at this stage.

Well done Dave all the messages are great but seeing the guy makes a difference.

I think he - or his wife - should contact a specialist bike solicitor without delay.

There may be a liability issue: when was the road salted? To what extent was the van driver responsible for the injuries? Even if the van driver cant be found, he may still get compensation (Criminal Injury, leaving the scene of an RTA is a criminal offence). He needs all the help he can get, get it right and he could be looking at a decent pay out.

I'm sure he would appreciate a little **** - good physio! - but the legal aspect is fairly important too lol

good to hear that he will pull through given time.

perhaps at some point he might be able to get internet access and we can all cheer him up directly

lets just hope they catch that van driver

lets just hope they catch that van driver

hope I'm wrong about this but everyone knows that white vans in London are the least likely vehicles on the road to be kosher. Which is another reason for that specialist solicitor, there may well be a criminal injury claim involved on top of the insurance claim...................anyone in contact with him, get that message across. :thumb: If he can't handle all that yet it doesn't matter - at this stage all he needs to do is get White Dalton or similar on the team, his missus could do that maybe? Once they are notified, he can relax. They may well act on a no win no fee basis, or pop a legal aid claim in. Main thing is to do it.

if it comes to it and his bike needs to be sold "DARE I SAY IT" it might be easier to break as this will raise more money for him and his family:dunno...willing to help strip and list if required not a problem:thumbup

especially being an "R" ...

A really sad story to be reading. Please pass on my best wishes to Stefano.

I seriously hope for once that this road has traffic control cameras and that the incident and offending van has been caught on film.

pulling his hood is probably the last thing he wants to do at the moment!

sprock was just trying to give him an interest ;)

.......bet he wants to make sure he's still firing on both cylinders :thumbup

if he doesn't need jazz mags now, its only a matter of time ;) BTW if anyone is going in to see him could they post up here in advance?

I was really upset when i saw the post title, i took 10 minutes just to get the bottle up to read the post, and now i am glad i did.

My heart goes out to his family and friends, its at times like this, people really show what they mean to eachother, and by the sounds of it, he has come out a fighter and things will be getting more positive now.

I wont pretend it is going to be easy, i have found this out the hard way, but can now start to get on with my recovery/rehab following my accident last august.

I hope he has a lot of support from differing proffesionals, from physio to his financial situation, and if he or his family need any assistance or advice on the probelms i have faced and had to deal with, then please feel free to contact me and i will be more than willing to offer any help i can.

I'm not a professional, just someone with a 3 month headstart on the difficulties that lay ahead, and it can be really difficult to know how to get help as for some reason it does not seem easy to find.

I wish you the best of luck with the recovery process, keep fighting, and you will get through the other side.

any update on stephano?
it's been a few weeks since the last post, is he out of hospital yet?
