Its finally give up the Ghost

Morning caped crusader :thumbup

Watched and listened to the vids and it sounds like the starter motor potentially isn't very well to me squire. But, knowing what they can be like with batteries, i'd still eliminate that first, so get it charged and see whether it starts on the button first time everytime squire :)

you still not charged that battery
charge battery :whipping charge battery :whipping charge battery :whipping

:biggrin:biggrin:biggrin:biggrin:biggrin:biggrin:biggrin

never tried it this morning mate didnt have time but will check tonight when i get home

the battery doesnt seem to of changed though lads its always been consistent in its voltage, if its been running it must charge it back up?

To get a running recharge from what i've read on here before, you'd need to go out for a good 20 minutes, half an hour to replace the charge lost from a start attempt.

The noise and the fact it started after attempting a bump start does suggest starter motor to me though squire. Have you asked spoonz yet? :dunno

Ok, this thread is the best laugh i've had all week :thumbup
Take your voltage readings with a meter and not the dash display.
Turn ignition on and leave it prime the fuel pump with all lights off and then the reading will be lower and more reallistic.
Next time it wont start off the battery, try jump leads to a car and that should start the bike and prove your battery is shot.

Milleboy

Forget the starter motor. It's permanantly engaged type and constantly meshed to the starter gear so if it spins it's fine. It is cos i can here it in the vid

Your issue is the sprag clutch is not not engaging. It's centrifugal so needs a good spin to engage.

That means either your batt voltage is low enough that it's not spinning it fast enough to expand and engage(long shot)

Or the sprag clutch itself is sticking. (99.9% sure that's the problem)

Painful though it might be unless charging the batt produces results it's sprag time.

nice one buddy

Ok i got back from work and the bike started 1st time went out for a blast round the village and and i pulled a wheelie a proper one :thumbup anyways got back and its starting ok now

Think im going to ride to work in the morning and see how it goes

and after work ill nip to me dads chuck the charger in my backpack and also borrow a volt meter then see how it performs

Alright spoonz

Cheers bud at least i can make sense of this madness, next thing will be which parts do i need to replace buddy from looking on ebay its not as simple as buying a complete sprag clutch

And would you say its a tricky job to do?

You will need the sprag clutch which comes as 1 part and the clutch housing.

The clutch itself is £180 from Aprilia. Ducati use the exact same part. ducati part number 70140071a. (direct replacement for aprilia part number 0659110) and it’s only £80 + vat.

I would be careful buying a used one

In terms of fitting it's a bar steward to get apart.
You need to get a lock tool or make one for the engine and a puller for the flywheel.
The flywheel is also held on with loctite 478 which is super strong. You will need a heat gun and lots of force to get it off.

You will need to loctite it back on again afterwards and possibly a new gasket unless your very careful with the old one.

Once apart it's an easy job as is reassembly it's just the flywheel removal that puts up a fight.

damn it seems a bit beyond my skills

Think ill buy the parts and nip down to a garage to get it fitted ahh man money i could of done with saving for my trip,

ok right then so i need 3 parts in total ?

1, ducati part number 70140071a £80.00+Vat

2,clutch housing im hoping i can use the orignal?

3,and a gasket is it a clutch gasket i need?

Cheers again spoonz for taking the time to reply

The sprag/clutch housing if you need it is Pt no 0659120 should get for around £40
If your in there i would change it unless it's pristine which i doubt

Gasket is Pt No 0650340 less than £10

Loctite 478 or equvalent from any engineering type shop or car garage.

haha agree Neil ill jump on that band wagon for sure?

cheers spoonz ill give speedway a ring tomoz and see if they got the parts in stock and what the damage is

LOL

Would you want to

I live in an old farmhouse these days. My nearest neighbour is 1/2 mile away so that is as near as you can get.

No streetlights or noise :thumbup except odd fighter jet or Heli

No shops or pubs that are close enough to walk to

And lots of rain in our non existent summer which is a shame cos we have great biking roads.
