I do believe I have not seen a tyre thread on here yet, there is a first for everything though

Do you run a 180 or 190, what size is the rim on a factory, does it make a difference to the handling

Hi,

I am running a 190 pirelli diablo corsa III on my Y2k Mille, I find that it gives it more stability. However it still turns quick as I've got a set of BST Carbon wheels on it.

Not sure on the rim size I guess the factory Oz wheels are exactly the same as the Oz wheels fitted to the earlier RSVR's so I am guessing at 6", not sure without double checking.

I agre with Chris, if you have light wheels the 190 is great, someprefer the 180 for quicker turn in..and they are easier to scrub to the edges. I have a 180 corsa 111 at the mo and couldnt reallt feel a much quicker turn in so its back to a 190 v shortly.

I'm running a 190 and have way too many rings showing at the front and find that, when the suspension is working properly, there's plenty of a quick enough turn in for me not to want a 180 rear. Plus i suppose the 190 gives you that slightly larger contact patch. On the other Prila forum there were a few guys raving about the 190/55 after riding with 180's. Best of both worlds I guess

i like the 190...that extra width makes me feel good when i'm railing it like a school girl :)

Dunlop Qualifier 120/70 front, 180/55 rear, on my 00.5 rsv. I love the grip, hate the mileage(4000 to wear marks).

Currently I have the Pirelli Stradas in 180/55. Good mileage tire, and great wet traction, good all around tire. I have been doin alot of two ridin and this tire is great for that. But my fun tires for my own pleasure are 190/50 Pirelli corsa III sittin in the garage wanting to be back on the bike.

180/55 on a 5.5" rim made my TL feel so much lighter and more nimble with no downside that I could find (and I've been trying for 55k miles). Stock was a 190/50 on a 6" rim.

I'm running a 190 Michelin pilot race 2ct rear. I've always used them as they give great grip and decent mileage. As for the 180 vs 190 I've never tried it. Many people swear that a 180 rear will make your bike turn in alot easier. Its hard to imagine 10mm making so much difference.

I think it has more to do with the profile than the width actually 180's at least a few years ago typically had a much more pointy profile while 190's were more flat. A pointy 190 would handle about as well as a 180 I think.

To some extent, but assuming the rim is a proper width for the tire the profile is controlled by the design of the tire carcass itself. Even mounting a 180/55 on a 6" rim will usually give a pointer profile than a 190/50 on the same rim. Mounting on a 5.5" rim is better yet:)

i'm running a 180/55/17 rear and i love it but my tires are ****** !!! lol i have a set of d207 sportmax soon will have a set of pirelli diablo corsa III and i think i will stay with the 180 rear

I have had the Pirelli SuperCorsa PRO sc0 and sc1 in front since a bought the bike.(120/70) In rear I have tried Pirelli SuperCorsa sc2 in 180/55 and 190/55. The 190/55 is in my liking better, because it raises the rear by a few mm's and have more grip on the sides than the 180/55......not much but a little. I even tried the Dunlop KR108 in 195/70 just to see if the increased height could be an advance. It wasn't, the compound didn't agree with my bike and I didn't go that route.

At this moment I'm very pleased with my Pirellis and don't really care about the milage, I use 1 front and 2 rear per season and that is no problem. Maybe the tire account will go up when the trackdays gets more but I don't see any reason in changing from a tyre I like to try something new and do everything all over again.

I rode to Magello a few weeks ago with some great guys, about 2,000 miles in total, about 1200 of which it ******* rained AAAAAGGGGHHH!
I have to say it is daunting at first, but by the end of it, rain - what ******* rain. 120mph through the swiss alps in torrential rain, it was a blast.
So now to my point, in all the riding the only arse clenching bit was going over a bit of overbanding (cheap *******s), I thought I had a bloody nail in my tyre. I am running the old diablo corsa - 180 profile. Other than that moment no problems, now back to Blighty and our crap roads. Last week on a 100 mile ride in the rain I locked the back up about 10 times whilst decelerating and then I was overtaking at just over a ton with the throttle open in 3rd and the back wheel lost traction and spun up, bit of a wag and then grip again. The problem here is that the tyre is obviously great but there are so many different people laying our roads with so much ****, one minute you can have aple grip and the next bugger all!!
Sorry for the ******* essay!!

Just changed from 190 Metzler sportec M1 to a 180 Metzler sportec M1, it definetly sharpens it up on cornering so reckon ill stay with a 180 in the future :devious:thumbup
