Had a new rear tyre fitted today and just discovered the fitters wheel clamp has dented the rim slightly in 2 places.

I've spoken to them and am going back tomorrow but can't decide what to demand.

1 new wheel as it's only 5 months old
2 financial discount on the tyre as compensation
3 just live with it and put it down to experience.

New wheel is £800 + Vat (Marchesini)

Just a little peeved to say the least. :rant

I would demand a new wheel.................Even only slightly dented it could have warped the rim or put it out of balance.

Sorry to hear that mate I'm with Kiwi on this you have paid for a professional service and they have cocked it up :jack
They will be insured for this sort of thing I would hold out for a new wheel in the same condition as yours was left with them :dunno

new wheel mate ,a dent in the wrong place could lose you pressure [unlikely but the potential is there ] an i dont wanna thinks about the consequences of that bud get em to replace!!!

working in the motor trade i know if we fitted a tyre and scatched the rim we would be expected to put it right ,damage the rim replace it so you should be asking politely for a replacement rim so the wheel is in the same condition now as it was before they got hold of it

Agreed with all of the above.

They must have insurance against damaging customers property, e.g. Your wheel

New wheel mate and accept no less, they should have taken more care over your tyre change.

If it was mine i would not give up till i had a new wheel, i would not be thinking of options, why should you accept any less mate:dunno

To true, looks like a new wheel mate im following suit on this :thumbup

Absolute minimum of a new wheel on safety grounds- that dent has now put a weakness in the manufacturers structural design thus potentially leading to catastrophic failure and personal injury. Sounds a bit far fetched but you have to look at worse case scenario. A similar thing happened to my mate when he put his car into Kwik Fit for an oil and filter. They sheared the sump plug and tried to drill it out and use a heli coil to repair it without him knowing. Luckily he was there watching and said under no terms was that to happen. My mate locked the car and set the alarm while it was still up on the ramp. He got the manager down and demanded a new sump to be fitted by BMW.....guess what.....he got it at a cost to Kwik Fit in excess of £800. If they get funny get straight on the phone to Trading Standards.
Keep us posted

Yeah i am thinking new wheel also.

Spoke to a friend who works for a solicitors and he said go for it. If they geet funny go straight for small claims court and don't argue with them.
what stacks in my favour is that this tyre company does wheel checks on any wheels they take in and write it on the form if they are damaged to prevent people claiming for damage they didn't do.

My wheel was put down as unmarked :devious

wheel dents are also 180 degrees apart as per the wheel clamping machine they use.
In fairness to them so far via the phone they have shown no signs of not stepping up.
Tomorrow we are gonna offer the wheel up to the machine to see if the dents line up with the wheel claws on the machine.

cheers for the replies
