Give it a whirl.
I run as little compression as poss, but here is the real brain teaser...
Rebound and compression damping curves are parabolic! So they are effective at EITHER end of the stroke and not just at the beginning, tapering off.
Am I still making sense?:dunno

UKmongoose is spot on.As long as you understand how suspension works, finding your own set up is easy.Simply setting the bike to those SportRider settings is not good.No reference is made to the riders weight/riding style or what sort of environment the settings were made. What might work at Cadwell Park might not work on the A153 on the way home.Suspension is also an individual thing, set it to suit you.
Starting point should always be setting the sag.Thats altering the front rear spring preload to suit the rider.(including normal riding gear)
I then usually make sure the damping settings are the same as the ones printed in the owners handbook.(You'd be suprised how far out they can be,...even on a new bike)
Go for a ride,... see what it feels like,... and keep notes of any adjustments made. There are a few good set up guides on the 'net.

Nice one Fred!
Once you get the hang of it you can change the feel of the bike according to your mood too.
Getting the sag right is THE first thing. I usually run slightly softer than most
at the front. I am on standard springs front and rear, but have an Ohlins shock on order which should be here today.
Sounds like we're on a similar wavelength.

Same in the highlands.
I'm going out on the bike in a mo and the screen has turned it into a missile as I don't have to endure the blast.
There aren't any cars here to speak of so no slowing down. Until you get knackered that is!
Ever come this way? It's worth the hike.

The Authors name is John Bradley.
It's the best!
it wants to be the best at that price mate, just ordered a book by Andrew Drevitt / Sport Bike Suspension Tuning. it seems to have all the that an average road rider like myself would require :rolleyes

How much is it?
I have had my copy for over 12 years I think, it was a pressie.
Cheapest i could find was £38 / volume or £60 for the pair, got the other one for £12.50. obviously not as comprehensive.

Blimey, sometimes took me a week to understand a page of the first book
Though, so lots of value! I think I might read it again now I have been reminded of it,
Probably take me a year.

I know this may sound strange but I think most of us run our suspension setting too hard. I have a Gen 2 Factory which I bought 2nd hand. Although it handles well enough I did think it was on the firm side. I would feel every little bump in the road etc. I was thinking, where is the "plush ride" ride everyone talks about when using Ohlins. Anyway, I took my girlfriend on the back on day and lo and behold it bike was smoother than ever. I think the extra weight helped soak up the bumps.

So I am planning to have a right go at setting the bike up soon.

You are correct.
Sprung to unsprung weight ratio was biased towards a smooth
Ride when you were two up. That's why racers like light wheels and posh light calipers.
But everything is a compromise.
You may need softer springs perhaps? Or just reduce the preload at the back and drop the bike through the yolks to keep the same rake and trail or even alter this too.
But lowering the deck height will then alter and lower your COG.
Suspension is a real journey, probably with no end. So it's a jolly good job
It's FUN!
John Bradleys book is superb folks, worth the loot.
I thought a gen2 was a penguin, sorry. They do tend to hop. Good in waves though!
I have a v4 if anyone knows what sort of animal that is, please post.
Ric.:thumbup

Er, sorry for thinking the v4 was a penguin. (I thought the v4 was a gen2)
I did see a v2 Tuono in Inverness today with Ventura luggage on.
Was that you?

Slo, sounds like your bike is set up too stiff. Back off the preload at the rear, try that, until it feels better.
I've put my rear back to standard and backed off the front compression & rebound and its a load better. Bit at a time tho.

Yep, just little by little until you get really confident.
It's quite easy once you get your head round it.

Aye ken that it will tak a bit o time ti get it sorted oot, but at least a ken fit I want ti dae.
