My first Twin!

Spring

Cheers guys ill go for sag first as advised and see how I get on. Hopefully wont need a new spring..

I really do need to have my tb sync and balance done soon as I have a small flat spot around 2-3k and its popping more on deceleration..

To my surprise knowing I needed a new spring for my weight to achieve the right set up I was shocked by the new ohlins spring at just over £50 money well spent, the difference is amazing.

I bet, thats actually not to bad price wise. Did you service the shock also?

I was looking to service suspension next winter as it does feel good but to much preload me thinks..

Turns out my spring is 1091-31/95 I weigh about 95kg in my gear so should be ok? Will be checking the sag this evening/tomorrow been busy with work :upside

If anyone is about over the next 4 days Ive got some time off and will be out riding at least 2 of the 4 days..

Spring length / rate chart. I used this chart, I ended up buying a new spring (10.7) to suit my 105 kg the difference is this has allowed me to reach the right sag settings and has transformed the handling along with the suspension set up. I think it s the best cheapest mod to make if you are struggling to get a decent sag to allow the suspension to work properly.

Cheers looks like I have the right spring... now to set the sag :thumbup

What a great thread w00dzy its almost like watching a really good film.. love all the work you have done, and the pics.. So much detail too with the help from others (what the forum is all about)

I have changed a rear wheel, sub-frame & panels (99) to (02) look, good with any electrical changes, LED's etc all done meta alarm fitted myself plus the usual oil, air filter, but not brave enough to do shims etc.. Good work

your bike is looking awesome as I'm sure you know.

Cheers lads. I found forums just after buying my first bike around 4 years ago and was and still am a member of 400greybike.com at that time I had no idea about bike mechanics and with the help of people on that forum I managed to do most maintenance and then after 2 years had the knowledge to rebuild a full bike whilst shoe horning in a bigger engine! (big thanks to lloydiecbr who is now a member on here and is yearning for an RSV) Forums are great. I have done similar threads for all my bikes as I find it an easier and more interesting way of keeping track of what Ive done to the bike..

I wasn't to sure about doing the clearances on this bike, but after reading up on it and seeing other people doing it thought I would give it a go and it turned out well :thumbup

The cylinder was easier to fit than I thought. Put a drain tray under the slave cylinder, remove 3 allen bolts, remove slave, remove banjo nut, replace washers, fit to new slave, install new slave and bleed through. The bleeding was suprisingly easy, best bet I find is to get some tube and a large syringe from your local vets and suck the new fluid through. Took me all of 30 min's. I did wonder why the new slave wouldnt go all the way on to start with but then found that the original slave has an adapter that needs to be removed and fitted to the new slave (push fit) so that it will fit the bike again.

Didn't get round to doing suspension last night, mates coming down this afternoon to help out. Today I will be fitting 2 hooks to my garage floor to use with my abba stand to safely and easily lift the front wheel also.. :thumbup Looking forward to having the suspension running good..

I bought some aftermarket adjustable levers for a good price (£34) and carbon swing arm protectors..

Not sure which ones he had? These are the short ones..

Found my front brake was rubbing today when lifting the front wheel.. off come the brakes pistons to follow. I will get round to doing my suspension.. doh!

Is it rubbing after fitting the new levers there's a little grub screw you have to set correctly, some people have had the front brake jam on fitting new levers...there's a few threads on this if you do search.....either here,rsvr.net or the aprilia performance forum...that's locked down but you can still access all the posts

I did wonder of that was the case.. I removed the lever to find the same issue so was probably like it before. It doesnt drag a huge amount...

Ill have a search for the grub screw fix see if it helps cheers.

Your modded collector really has come to life after fitting the chip!!

Brakes were the easiest I have refurbished as they were in good condition. All greased up now. When I refitted the callipers after bleeding I noticed brake fluid running down the inside of them. I torqued the bolts to 20nm, have now tried 35nm and will see how it looks in the morning.

Suspension - checked the free sag and unladen on rhe rear and got this dialed in now. Need to take measurements and dial in my weight with gear tomorrow as its got a bit late!!

One main issue.. my front fork adjusters dont seem very easy to move? How do I know when the preload has been completeley removed? How do I know both legs are the same? I cant seem to find the damping adjustments? The top of the fork has an allen key in the middle of the hex?

Will be having another butchers when I wake up.

.
yeah they come into their once you have the airbox/can/chip combination to go with them..i'm hoping to get my cams dialled in later this year to really improve things

Gonna strip, clean and grease my brakes soon too and change the fluid.
Also still trying to pick up a CO meter at a decent price!!

They work real nice now mate with little to no drag now they have bedded. Well chuffed.

Took it for a spin today after setting sag on the rear and damping to standard. Not done the front preload just yet as im not to sure about my preload adjusters. They are very stiff? Handles much better now, but im not totally satisfied its as good as it can be, yet..

Dropped oil this evening after a quick ride, to do my first complete change!

Also doing the jet mod tonight but cant get the damn thing out. Went to get some cocktail sticks which dont seem to be doing the trick. They bring out the jet a small way then it seems to get stuck.

Having a beverage then going to get back on it. Ill try removing it whilst on the abba stamd see if it helps.

You up for the griff day in pompey on the 15th mate? You about for a ride tomorrow? My mates down who has a tlr and we will be heading out..

Gonna be out on my pushbike tomorrow.
roads are covered in salt and I will be doing a front end service today anyway so probably have the bike in bits still!
Fork oil change, brakes and headset check.
