Is this the right bike for me?

I am 45 & 5`8 tall the Mille is my second big bike so I`m not that experienced. As stated above make sure you warm it up before you ride it. I didnt the first time I rode it and it stalled, locked the back wheel up and I was going down the road speedway style. ( it was wet). Managed to pull clutch in and keep it upright but it was close. pmsl. I was instantly hooked. The engine braking is phenomenal compared to a four. And the sound even with a standard can is awesome. Apart from that I find it pretty easy to ride. It is quite forgiving if you get the wrong gear. Handles like a smaller bike. Go for it.

wow now that's community :)
...I'd say if you're used to riding sport bikes and you're thinking about getting back into the game the 02' RSV is a great bike. Its a bit bigger and taller than the jap stuff which makes it a bit more comfortable to ride for anyone over 6 feet. What I really like about it is the solid handling and especially the motor. I've riden just about everything in the modern sport bike world and dollar for dollar nothing getting you more bang for your buck than the 01-03 mille. I just rode the new zx10r last week and that thing is absolutely bat-**** power wise. If any of you get the chance to ride one, just go WOT in first and watch the front end just barely come up (wheelie control) as you reach 105mph in FIRST gear! Crazist sensation of acceleration I've ever had on a bike. period.
However, regardless after about 20 minutes of riding I was already bored. Yes its stupid fast, yes it handles like a 600 and yes it's green, but none of that **** matters if I have to rev it to 7500 rpm to feel anything and sound like a **** doing so on public roads. I also just can't warm up to the sound of an inline 4, it just doesn't to do for me....unless it's a MV w/radial valves, or the new R1 with the crossplane crankshaft that sounds ******* baslistic with cans fitted.
Plus, like most jap bikes they're like school in summer time: NO CLASS. If I'm going to ride something that's probably going to kill me on public streets, I want something that has real world power for the street (a v-twin), proper ergonomics for the street (nice and tall, you sit INSIDE the bike not on top of it), and something not a lot of people are riding (Aprilia's in general, espeically in the US). That's just my .02...hope it helps.

well said mr chow  i spent a full day on my mates 06 zx10 green lol ******* great bike and crazy mental fast but i would much rather have the mille any day

Cheers.... gonna do it, don't care that the missus won't talk to me, can't get the idea out of my head and she'll get used to it ( maybe ) !!!!

The mk1 rsv is a big bike compared to most of its jap rivals.....handling is more old school and needs the rider to actually ride the bike...does feel narrow and twitchy at first but its so user friendly on the open road.
I'm only 5'6" on a Mk2 rsv1000r and it gets used in all weathers and trackdays with ease....do yourself a big big favour and get the suspension setup to match you..stock settings are more track focused and not exactly relaxing at low speed..........overall i just find the rsv range to be a real world bike...30-120mph and theres hardly a bike about that can give the same fun....except perhaps a Tuono

im 45 and ive had a top yoke made that rases tha bars about 2" made a **** load of diffrence. did a track day 2 weeks ago and wrists were ok (every thing else fooked)

After much dithering, today I will send off my loan application ( wife hasn't been paid for 2 months , but sod it I can always sell it if need be ) and I've decided on a 2002 RSVR. Have to double check my insurance quote as £268 fully comp seems too cheap with zero no claims and 4 stolen bikes and 2 write offs which they haven't asked about .

Then I'll be asking advise about suspension set up , etc.

When I'm looking at these bikes does anyone have any tips for common faults to look out for and does anyone know of zorstec exhaust on the yellow one in MCN ?

yay im the youngest here, im only 37. :)

Best of luck with your search Phil. Let us know what you get.

Well sonny, set my heart on a RSVR, probably about 2002. There is one i've looked at, like yours, with the underslung zorstec exhaust ( in MCN). Other one is a black one, only £2750 but its had 8 previous owners which makes me a bit twitchy. Hopefully go and get one next weekend, assuming the insurance quote of £268 is correct.

Whichever one I get its got to be the rsvr because the thought of full ohlins gets me going.

Yes m8, it has to be an RSVR, no point in getting standard. When i was looking a wanted the black, but the yellow came up, and i have to say I think its the better colour. ;)
The number of owners is not always a bad thing, as long as its been looked after. Always try and find out all the mods that have been done. Can, air filter, if the chips been upgraded or map changed, if its had the started thingy upgraded, that sort of ting.

sorry m8 i'm only 33 grandad lol

Ah crap!... Well at least im not over 40 yet! :)
