I realise you lot aren't exactly impartial, but I am 47 and need to get another bike after a 12 year lay off. Yes I am old but my history is being a boy racer, from 350LC to GSXR750 with 3 different FZR1000's as well.
Will this bike be suitable for my battered frame ( I have gone done the road a few times) and are there any specific things to look out for on a 2002 RSV1000r.
Any help/advice much appreciated.

Phil

Im 47,go for it, its great fun, even better than a 350lc at 17...

Brilliant bike I'm 48 and 6'3'' most comfortable best handling sports bike I've ever had ! realy brings the old RD twostroke days back! go for it mate you will love it!

Whats this the bloody over 40's club lol Hey Biff the way you were holdin your back on the last ride oot i think you could be suger coatin it and Pat did you not say your wrists were ****** after 20 mins lol ,anyway i'm only a young pup in comparison to all these old foagies(33) and my wrists hurt after a couple of hours but i think wot everyone is trying to say is **** the pain the pleasure well out ways it ...........

Id say no. I personally think the RSV is maybe not the best bike to jump on after 12 years off. I find the handling something that takes time to get use to, and i find the handling better the harder you ride it. If this is the kinda thing you want then all the better. But to be honest Id take a test ride to see if it's what you're looking for.

We here love the bike, but it's really not to everyone's taste.

If you live in or near Somerset, you can come ride my 02 RSVr if you like?

wow now that's community :)
...I'd say if you're used to riding sport bikes and you're thinking about getting back into the game the 02' RSV is a great bike. Its a bit bigger and taller than the jap stuff which makes it a bit more comfortable to ride for anyone over 6 feet. What I really like about it is the solid handling and especially the motor. I've riden just about everything in the modern sport bike world and dollar for dollar nothing getting you more bang for your buck than the 01-03 mille. I just rode the new zx10r last week and that thing is absolutely bat-**** power wise. If any of you get the chance to ride one, just go WOT in first and watch the front end just barely come up (wheelie control) as you reach 105mph in FIRST gear! Crazist sensation of acceleration I've ever had on a bike. period.
However, regardless after about 20 minutes of riding I was already bored. Yes its stupid fast, yes it handles like a 600 and yes it's green, but none of that **** matters if I have to rev it to 7500 rpm to feel anything and sound like a **** doing so on public roads. I also just can't warm up to the sound of an inline 4, it just doesn't to do for me....unless it's a MV w/radial valves, or the new R1 with the crossplane crankshaft that sounds ******* baslistic with cans fitted.
Plus, like most jap bikes they're like school in summer time: NO CLASS. If I'm going to ride something that's probably going to kill me on public streets, I want something that has real world power for the street (a v-twin), proper ergonomics for the street (nice and tall, you sit INSIDE the bike not on top of it), and something not a lot of people are riding (Aprilia's in general, espeically in the US). That's just my .02...hope it helps.

Do you know wot Mr Chow that is one of the most well thought out and concise and honest post's ive read in a long time and i agree 100% with wot you just said inline 4's do have more bhp per litre but they do lack the soul and character than a v-twin ....

You can read, fook me i'm not talking to you anymore lol
but very true, the faster you go the better it handles without a doubt & so much more fun than i/l 4
4's are without doubt ubber quick but no passion

Well, thats it then , I'll have to get one and hope I've gained some wisdom/self preservation over the years. How will it perform against my mates Honda SP2 ( straight bits only as when we did 10 days at the TT races he wasn't overtaken once !!).

Cheers for the offer of a go on your bike - I live in Kent, but there wouldn't be any point. I know if will take time to get some skill back. handling - although its been a while i will get used to it. I have had about 12 bikes, done about 100,000 miles . Done suzuki, yamaha and honda 4 cylinders so want something different with character.
Tried my mate MV Augusta F4 last week - a missile but seemed to be perched on top - i'm 6 foot so hopefully this will suit me better. Phil

Yes this is the over 40s thread. I'm 49 & 6'2" owned my RSVR for 6 years & it's the best bike I've ever had (& I got RDs aswell) bit heavy on the wrists if your doing less than 70 but as been said the harder you ride it the better it is. My mates got an SP1 & that can't loose me, we both top out around 168.

Hey i wasn't being ageist ,sp1, sp2 they shouldn't come close m8, Phil these bikes are quite comfy for bigger guys go for it ,enjoy you wont regret it until after the first winter and it doesn't start lol

Hey, I am getting on a bit and every morning I wake up is a bonus. Don't worry about taking the piss, my mates ( and wife ) call me Phil the *******.

You have got some mental roads up there by the way - did Kent to Ullapool in a day, was knackered but once we hit those empty roads the fun began ( and it wasn't raining or snowing ) !!!!!!

Or the Sheep, cows pheasents or locals weren't throwing themselves at your bike trying to knock you off lol

47???

47? The wife is 51 and rides our Aunt Mille within an inch of its life! Must help with taking the weight off her wrists :)

Buy one, learn and adapt young man

Cheers for the message, but I did have to read it twice - I think it is just my dirty mind.
