Help Please!!!

Daz, how's the testing going, found out if it's the stator or RR yet?

Will be available from about 8pm this evening if you wanna give us a buzz.

Hi Amb...Well i completed all the testing as instructed by yourself when i had some free time on saturday. I also checked my mates readings on his factory which was a good guideline as to what mine should have been, roughly putting out the same as his. However it was not giving the readings through the regulator, it was gubbed!!! Looking at the regulator it was not the original and maybe even from a ducati model bike possibly. Just been modified to fit the aprilia connectors. Reason i have not posted up saying the bike is all well again, i dont want to count my chickens before there hatched but i am more than a 100% sure it is the cause. ...I will confirm once i have fitted new regulator this week...excited i am as its been a learning curve for me and alot been learnt about the bike through this problem i have had. Let you all know the outcome this week..Thanks Daz..:doug

That's great news mate, hope the RR fixes it.

Sorry I wasn't around at the weekend, bit of a bender on Friday and then fixing up a mates bike in London on Saturday after a spill a few weeks ago.

Let us know how you get on.

F**K it F**K it F**K it!!!!!! Today i had some free time to change over the regulator, which i had a brand new one and also the one buffalo sent to me to test it out..Was very excited as have been kind of busy this week and not much of a chance to fix the bike....So up early wheeled it out fitted the new regulator. Fingers crossed started it up and it fired up straight away...left it ticking over and all was well, then i checked the voltage reading and then it started to drop drop drop and held at 11.2. Its not the regulator, cant believe it...so am asking you guys now, can it only be the stator left to replace. A friend said to me it sounds like your stator is maybe only part working....What shall i do????:dunno

Daz, did you check that you had at least 50V AC coming out of all wires on your stator?

If you did then you must have an interruption in the circuit between the stator and RR.

Go back to the basics and check the stator outputs, if you defo have 50V AC on all three wires then it's an open circuit somewhere on route to the RR.

Going to check the readings tomorow...I was not 100% on what setting on the multimeter to use to check the stator wires coming from it. So am finding out how to check this again...Just been finding it difficult to get anyone in the bike know to come and check it. As am not amazing on the electrical side av just had to persist myself. So if anyone wants to help me on the phone tomorow (i aint thick, just inexperienced):biggrin, please let me know. Thanks to you all Daz......

Daz, mate sorry to here the problem is not sorted yet, wishing you and the bike a speedy recovery..... Steve down under.

Thanks Steve...I know i will get there in the end but am determined to fix this myself here now, came to far with it now. Stuburon Scottish Clown me!!!! If the stator is needing replaced should i go for a genuine part or the electrexworld generator?? Or maybe have my exsisitng one rewound?? Is there any links with pics on how to swap em over?? Glorious sunshine again this weekend here, and still no noise of my twin popping and cracking around the roads here!!!! Gutted!!!!:crazy

Hi Daz,
I've had the same problem.....on my 2000 RSVR...the tickimng omn nminbe is one of thye 12V relay under the seat cowl - not the starter solenoid.

The bike shop don't know what the problem is, I'm desperate for a fix !!!
Mine tries to start, but backfires and smells like it's flooding.

Good luck with a fix.

Ewan.

Am giving up on this now, someone else can fix it for me now. Av tried but i just dont seem to be geting anywhere with it. So i will say a big thank you to all who have helped me along with my problem, but am brushing my hands of it now. Hopefully i can get a mechanic to work his magic and shed some light on whatever is wrong....:dunno

I take it you couldn't fault the stator then Daz?

PM Griff and see if he'll do a tour of your area, not much Griff can't fix mate.

Hi amb. Personally i think the stator is pooped but until i can prove this or someone would be abel to test the readings from it, am not going to no. Give me a spanner, socket etc and am very good with them. Electrical is not my thing am affraid...what is Griffs user name, i did try a search for it but did not find him??

Electrics aren't for every one mate, don't worry.

Dude, pm rsvlee, he's got griff coming down to caphilly towards the end of the month, he knows what dates they are.

If i can get away from work/college for a few hours, i'll give it a looky over for you, as a fresh pair of eyes is always a winner :thumbup

Thanks Amb for details mate...
Beanie if you could have a look at it for me that would be fantastic...If you wanna pm me your phone number i could give you a call and have a chat with you tommorow?? Are you off work/college tomorow due to bank holiday??

daz, take the stator out, you will prob see an area that looks like its been hot and wires have shorted. will load pic on. my 04 factory stator was f**ked and replaced it with electraworld one, its a straight swap but use the original rubber seal on the wires because the replacement one is the wrong size.
