Hi All.

I tried to start my bike tonight but no go.
On turning the ignition on the dash remains blank.
Nothing on the start button. No indicators or horn. I can hear the fuel pump priming though.
I've checked the battery with a multimeter and I have 12.8v all the fuses are good?

I did wash it after the last time I used it but I did start it afterwards and it ran for 5 minutes to dry out.

Help????

check all connections. I think there is one under the clocks (may have been disturbed ?.... Kill switch ??

if it a gen 2 there are several block connectors behind the gap between the tank and the frame rail on the near side of the bike , check them out by lifting the tank .!!!

they always look quite vulnerable , I have smeared plenty of Vaseline on mine . but I do have an ongoing problem with the trip /mode selector , wont work when its dry only works when its either been washed or if im out in the rain !!!

check the ecu plugs under the seat too , I think a multi meter will be your new best mate !!! good luck !!

Hello Highlift. Mine is a Gen2 and garage stored bike. So corrosion is unlikely [fingers crossed]. I have checked under the seat and the ECU plugs seem fine and undamaged.
I also removed the front cowling and inspected the plugs hidden there no water ingress or damage. Would the side stand switch cause the screen to be blank, with some sort of short?
Visually it looks fine. As I have said the fuel pump primes [I can hear this]. The battery is good because of the optimate, showing 12.8v at rest.

side stand switch not really part of the equasion , but worth keeping clean don't discount it tho !!

have you checked the 2 30 amp fuses ( green ) near tilt sensor top of battery one is for the ecu other im not sure of .

have you checked the cranking amps of your battery with a load tester ( topdon do a good one £ 35 well spent )

cables prone to chaffe rear of tank near side and also near the " brown connector " on off side .

sounds like you have done all this tho .!!

how,s the main earth ?? I installed an additional battery neg to frame on mine as the engine earth that the battery lead goes to is near on imposible to get to .

it does seem like its clock related as they are not getting a battery feed from the ign switch .the switch seems to be working as the fuel pump kick into life .

can bus wiring does work on resistances so a slight bit of corrosion on the tiny block connectors will create a bit of high resistance , so it would be worth getting a can of electrical spray cleaner .

if I can think of owt else I will post again .:thumbup

After todays search I have noticed that the Red warning light for the immobiliser flashes as normal but continues to flash when I turn the ignition to on [still with a blank screen].

Do I have an immobiliser fault? Or is the ignition switch NOT working? If so how can I check this? Thanks in advance. Dave

I fitted a battery upgrade kit a short while ago. The engine earth [neutral] bolt is reachable with a long T bar allan key. Meter checked these too. Perfect

Battery checked at my supplier today, A1 condition

Well another day of manipulation of all connections has found the culprit. The 6 wire plug and socket under the tank [left side above gears shift] has a little corrosion going to the base of the ignition switch, has an intermittent fault, switching the power off to the clocks starter etc. Im now looking for a 6 pin plug and socket with a metre of cable attached.

daveish well done !!! ebay is a pretty good source of electrical wiring stuff ,

i bought a load of ebay of replica jap block connectors and the single pin and socket things covered with the rubber tubes , for a project rewiring

my gs 1000.

good to hear of a resolution to the problem :thumbup

What a waste of time finding it though. No wonder Aprilia has such a poor reputation. Days of frustration and rides missed because of a 5p part!
Thanks again for help

No need really to complain about the bike . They all break down sometimes . If there were no problems then nobody would know anything . It`s a way of bonding with your machine and getting to know all the niggly bits . I have a Harley ............always breaking down ?? according to some , junk ?? , slow?? ............. never had a problem in 8 years .

Learn to work with the "T" and enjoy it

:lol owing a tuono is like playing mind games with a machine !! whats the ****** gonna do next !!!

Hey Daveish,
Could you please specify the location of the bad 6-pin with more details? I just had exactly same problem on my 2017 rsv4, immobilizer lights keeps flashing with key to "ON" position. Thanks a lot!

P.S. These italian bikes should use caution when washing with tap water, tons of problems occurred since my last and "most detailed" wash about 1 month ago since there are tons of places could short circuited.
