Help...ecu/coil probs !!

Aaahh ffs mate :-]
Ring Griff early, ring Graham at the Rocket, be nowt to serious.

When my engine went pop it somehow managed to kill the ECU as well.

Quite how they were related i have no idea but i do know they are approx £1500 a time and had to wait 6 weeks for one. Fingers crossed its not that serious.

I tell it as i find, Nob.

I have a mate who is going through the same woes with his RSV4. His ECU has just packed up too and he has had never ending problems with the bike. Aprilia Italy will cease to function for the next 4 weeks as well.

I ended up writing to the chief of Aprilia UK at Piaggio HQ to get mine sorted.

They can bypass the dealer network order system and get spares in much quicker.

just been confirmed after speaking with Charley Tuono, the coil failed which resulted in the ecu getting spiked......bollox !!!
The good news, if there is some, is that cos its a 2008 model its "only" around the £700 mark, if it had been a 05,06,or 07 model it would have been nearer £1400.
Also it will come on map 1, ( he did say that if he has a bike in at the time he'll put it on that and put it on map 2 ! ) now, if i run it on map 1 with the Leo Vince cans will it do any harm ?
Ah the joys of Italian bikes eh ??

**** mate , even £700 is a bitter pill to swallow , think the bike might run abit lean with open pipes on map 1 , might be wrong but someone will know for sure , Nob is the exhaust guru aint he , he should know !

Ahh ****.

So what happened you where rideing along then it just went? would it start on 1 cylinder? and would 1 plug spark on the old coils? the you put the new ones in then **** all?

:O i cant afford £700 and the bikes on finance.. im fuced for a while then :|

yeah, just riding along when it suddenly started running on one cylinder, service and red triangle on dash..pulled over straight away, left it for 10 minutes or so then tried again.Same, running on 1 cylinder.Repeated this a couple more times, always the same.
Called RAC,guy came out who openly admitted he wasn't great with bikes, did a bit of prodding and probing, starting and running on 1 cylinder several times all to no avail.
Taken home on truck, put bike away for the night, tried to start the next morning and nothing, wouldnt run at all, would turn over just not fire !!
Did sparkplug check,no spark.Took coil off thats when i noticed the rear lower coil had "blown/melted" a peice about the size of a malteser off the top.
A mate put a meter on the coil and confirmed it had gone, ordered a secondhand one off fleebay, checked it was ok and fitted to bike. Still nothing, no sparks, no nothing.
Everything else ok IE fuel, fuel pump, kill switch, fuses etc.
Only thing left.......ECU !
So thats the story, sorry its a bit long but i tried to simplify it as much as poss !

Blackwolf, are you sorted now cos i seem to recall you were having similar problems ? Hope yours is a less severe problem than mine mate, you managed to ride it 20 miles home so hopefully youll be ok, mine would only tickover, soon as you touched the loud pedal it cut out..

I havent bought some coils yet, will prob buy them tongiht.

Ill let you know once ive got the coils.. im shitting my self! haha

How long before ecu arrives dave
not too long Bay, mate of mine knows about an "ecu doctor", £150/200 with a 12 month guarentee !
I'm a bit sceptical but gonna look into it...apparently he's done them before !!
