Hi
Im new here so I look forward to some friendly advice :thumbup

I am just in the process of looking for a 2001 RSV mille and I have found one that is of interest, the previous owner has stated that the battery died on him and he tried to start the bike resulting in the starter blowing along with the bearing.

would this also damage the clutch??

The bike it self has done 25000 miles so what else should I be looking at when I go and see it?

Thanks guys

ps I have read all the buying advice threads but they are orientated to 2004 + models.

Thanks

Tim

Howdy fella bit to technical for me but doudt what you have described would have any effect on the clutch, but welcome anyway....:thumbup

I take it he means the sprag clutch has been damaged by poor starting?

If it is then you could be looking at a big bill to put it right, aim for at least £500 of the price. Could be more if he's damaged the starter motor.

Welcome by the way.

Thats it the Sprag Clutch.

The starter has been replaced but on a 2002 model would this be an issue??

Also how can I tell if its Sharrged or not?

He is probably talking about the starter clutch or sprag clutch which is a world of hurt should it need replaced. If you do see the bike, when trying to start it a problem with the starter assembly would appear as a grinding/ crunching metal sound during turnover from the front left as you sit on the bike.

Or it may not be the dreaded sprag but either way the bike would have to be seriously cheap to chance it with problems like that. There are plenty of good ones around.

This problem comes from trying to start it repeatedly with a poorly charged battery

if it has service history to back up what he says then its no sweat. You should be looking for evidence of sprag/ starter/ one way clutch on the bill. It won't be cheap either.
