Fitting jet .40??

Morning peeps,

Ordered the above clutch jet from RSVR.NET, out of stock at the mo but should be 5-7 days. Anyway, looking for some of you mechanically minded guys to give me a rough "how to" fit it please. Had a look on the "how to" thread but nothing there!

Is it as simple as old one off, new one on??? or am i being silly......:biggrin

For those of you asking for clarification about this mod I have attached a photo of the bolt that needs to be removed to change the jet and also a photo of the jet itself which is quite small. The bolt can be seen just above the oil filter cover. I have just done the mod myself and found that a 4mm flat bladed screwdriver was just right for unscrewing the jet. It took me about 20 mins from start to finish. As has been said before a small amount of oil will drip out of the hole for a while (make sure that the bike is upright on paddock stand or similar). I removed the jet having unscrewed it by inserting a thin piece of fuse wire through the hole in the centre of the jet and hooking it out. I haven't had a chance to test ride the bike since but selecting neutral with the bike ticking over seemed much easier.

Did mine yesterday,old jet was easy to unscrew,but what a bitch to get out!,got there in the end & now can get neutral when cold easily,got an mpl slave as well,whole lot better than stock

:thumbup Doing mine tomorrow,seems very easy to do,look on AF1 website photo on there on which screw to undo.Had mine a while to put on so think its about time to do it along with change anti-frezze and regulator wiring modification.:biggrin

The photo shows which bolt needs to be removed. It's just above the oil filter cover. The bike will need to be put on a paddock stand and I would suggest you also remove the nearside lower fairing to improve access. Once you remove the bolt a small quantity of oil will dribble out. You won't be able to see much inside the hole until it stops dribbling. I used a bit of kitchen roll to mop it up. Once you've done that you should be able to see the jet which is brass coloured and has a slot in it's head. I found a 4mm flat headed screwdriver ideal for unscrewing the jet. Be a bit careful here because if the jet is tight it would be easy to chew up the slot. Mine undid quite easily. Once you unscrewed the jet the problem is getting it out! Don't worry about it falling inside the engine..it can't. I removed my jet by hooking a bit of fusewire through the hole in the centre of the jet and hooking it out. It only took a couple of goes. Others have used tweezers or something similar. The new jet was a firm fit on the end of the screwdriver and I was able to insert it into the hole quite easily and tightened it up...again be careful, it doesn't need to be very tight. Replace the bolt you took out to start with and the jobs done. Took me 20 mins taking it slowly.

Having looked inside the fairing to take the picture there seems to be lots of salt residue on the engine so I'm removing the fairing now to give it a good clean...or I might just go out for a ride. Can't make up my mind at the moment!

Think i'll be ordering mine asap as mine can be a right ****** to get into 1st!

:thumbup Just did mine very easy to do ,but getting the screw out is a pain.In the end came up with a brill idea,which makes the job very easy and quick to do.
Get yourself a wooden skewer that use on BBQ,use that which sticks very nicely in the screw and then pull out slowly.Bobs your uncle ,job done.
Not tried mine yet,bike in bits for other jobs,think the jet that came out was a 60 unless my eye sight is going.:biggrin

Tried 20 mins to get the f... out of the hole - no success...

Toothpick did not help at all come very close couple of times.

What are the benefits of this extra mod.:dunno

I used lock wire once the jet is loose I just put a slight hook on the end through the jet hole and out it came but slowly and carefully.
I believe the benefit to be reduced oil flow to the clutch so there is not so much drag on the clutch allowing you to engage/disengage easier.
If I am wrong I am sure someone else will be able to explain it better

Yes in deed - there is the oil channel coming from up right and i felt like it was hindering the operation. The jet itslef was not tight and i did not loose any oil maybe a tea spoon.
Did not had lock wire on my hands - maybe later.

Today we had +3 c and sunshine so i took her out from the shelter and war, her up - boy one just have to love the Italian lady she was ready and I mean right there and instant...

3 or 4 weeks and she will give me a ride looking forward...

Installed Beowulf rad covers at the same time.

I glad yours came out so easily. When I came to do mine 12 months ago I found that the head had been chewed off. So despite much tea drinking and head scratching by me and Spoonz we couldnt get the little bugger out. I had another go at it on Friday cos it had been bugging me. Tried gently tapping a sharpened screwdriver into the brass but only succeeded in messing it up completely. So there was nothing else for it - it had to be drilled out. I used a 1.5 mm and a 3.5 mm bit and a 4mm Tap and drilled by hand. You cant get a normal drill in there - limited space. Others have used a dremmel but as I havnt got one.......

I took my time and the jobs a good un. Fitted the new jet and bolted everything back together. Took it for a long ride yesterday and Ive gotta say.....it was well worth the effort. Neutral is now a pleasure to find and the down changes seem much smoother.

got mine changed over but yet to test it out to see what its like
