Cold start

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sgt7GJB25Nk

I was afraid when the cold weather comes problem will come back. Bike doesn't want to start easily. Every morning I'm having this problem it goes away if the bike is warm. Battery is fine tested with hi amp battery - same results. Full service done recently at Griffs + recent tune up few weeks ago as well. Axone shows some general electric fault if starts from cold and not showing when bike is warm.
Troubleshooting steps done so far: Replaced clocks, ecu - all good. Cleaned airbox min regulation valve. Had a look at temp sensor, seems to be working fine I guess, but the data was different from the manual (2.2kOhm instead 2.5kOhm at 20celcius).
I don't know if someone might had similar problems? Any advise is welcome. Thanks

Have you got too much slack in the throttle cable?? Maybe the fast idle which is needed when the bike is cold is not operating correctly due too this. Only a thought.

Cable slack is fine, cleaned and inspected the stepper motor today - no changes

ahm wi the bad or pish poor battery arguement oan this one.

Ahv also got a 53 plate Caponord ( engine similar to a Gen1 T for the uninitiated). Its bein a bit random startin noo its colder, takes 2 or 3 goes noo, initialy fires then dies. Had a look at the batt the day an it looks like its the orgininal still in so mibbe time fur it tae go.

Will let ye ken how ah get one when the new ones fitted ie if its sorted the prob oot or nae.

Just to update you on this. In the end after many hours and money spend the garage managed to find the problem. Clogged Air pressure sensor and faulty ECU. Luckily I found one in Canada and good price. Case closed:locked

Thought I'd update you on this, identical case, just in case anyone had a similar problem...

Mine was the ECU also

Swapped it over for a good one, bike starts perfectly
Swapped old one back in...no go
New one in again...runs perfect...

So there you are chaps......problem solved.

(Well...not quite...just got to find a new ECU...at a half decent price)

Cheers dude, I've spoken to the guy, he's unsure if he can help and has promised to get back to me.
I'll keep you updated for future reference
K

Strange, he told me that he can and even gave me the price :rolleyes

Nightmare i have the same symptoms as Dimania video at the start of this thread shows. I don't seem to get any response when i try and put in the http://www.ecu-master.co.uk but doesn't show up anything. Is it straight forward to swap over my bike is an early gen2 2006 which ECU part number did you guys get when looking on http://www.apriliapartsbuyer.co.uk/parts/rsv-1000-tuono-2006-2009/electrical-system-ii there are two part numbers listed AP0266533 and AP0266531 any help pointers much appreciated.

My T also had the same cold start issue last winter. The ECU that you have and don't want is the 266531. You can use the 266532 or 566533. I found a used 266532, placed it, and voila, a perfect starting T again :)

Thanks Elsjo, yep i see there is one in the states for £200 for the 266533 but really dont want to be spending that at the moment, think i will have to live with twisting the throttle a bit to get here going. Seems an extreme fix for such a small issue. I will keep my eye out for an ECU and see if i can pick one up. Would rather try a known good one first to make sure its at fault, but im in the sticks and not many of the T's around here.

I have sent Gabro a message asking if he can flash the Gen 2 ECU which maybe a simpler method to resolve the problem, be great if you could simply flash the old firmware to the newer version.

Thanks

Would a faulty ecu work properly if it were reflashed, why is it faulty in the first instance and why would reflashing cure that fault. ???

It should do Ali, if the ecu's code has become corrupted, an overwrite should erase the faulty code and do the trick.

It's generally 2006 bikes that will have this cold start issue, the early fuel mapping wasn't too clever.
2007 onwards and Aprilia fixed this.

For the anoraks, you can check your mapping version by looking at the part number on the ecu, it's written in bold, just to the right of where it reads ROTAX:

266531 was the original 2006 ecu, the mapping had a few issues, namely, poor cold starting and a percieved flat spot between 2000 rpm and about 5000. Also, the fueling was a little snatchy at very low throttle openings.

266532 addresses all of the above issues, and iirc was fitted to late 2006 bikes onwards.

266533 updated version of above, afaik there's no difference.

If you're shopping for a secondhand one (think hens teeth here)....look for a 266533

And finally, a RSVR ecu will not work in a Tuono...

For those interested my ecu issue is here....enjoy ;)

Cheers gents, aye my ECU is the dodgy one a 266531. Read your post Tiffa very good reading..

I have been trying to see if i could find the bit regards getting a RSVR ecu setup to run my bike as there are some cheap ones available the now.

It just seems mental that it needs the ECU swapped out for something as simple as keeping it running when cold mental! Anyhow that's Aprilia for us eh??
