2008 Tuono R 6000 MILES
I fitted after market levers and adjusted the threaded pin in the clutch lever to the same position as it was in the original lever, it worked well for a while.
I took it out this evening and did 5 miles at 90 ish and all felt fine until I came to a roundabout and the bike had no engine braking when gearing down, There was a bad clutch plate smell for a bit, I then tried to return home and the bike just rev'ed like hell, I only just managed to limp home at 28 miles an hour. Avoiding hills.
I have since changed the levers back over too the original, adjusted the pin fully out and it still does not bite until the lever is nearly all the way out.
Any suggestions, going to France soon and need it sorting.
Thanks:crazy

No, Its going for a service Friday so I will have them look at the oil (Black) and bleed the system. I am concerned that I might need to have new clutch plates, I did smell it burning and then rode it 10 miles while slipping. The bike has only done 6000 miles is it a possibility?

I've had cheap aftermarket levers on my last 3 RSV's without any problems, but I'm hearing lots of bad stories of the fitted to Tuono's. I've just ordered a set for my Tuono from China but I'm thinking I shouldn't fit them.

sounds like the adjustment pin is turned too far in, back it off and try again, if the clutch needed bleeding the clutch would be engaged all the time NOT slipping

The pin is now all the way out, sounds as though its going to be a new set of clutch plates and kiss good bye to £400.00. I am pissed off as the bike has been running well. I have never needed a clutch for any of my other bikes, some with high mileages. Might be time to part-ex for a Triumph Tiger 1050.

I would have them fitted at a Tuono dealer if I were you, I thought I fitted mine right and it looks as though its going to cost me a set of Clutch plates.

Clutch plate set £74 and it takes about half an hour.
£400 FFS it aint rocket science.

Thats true,I should have read the post properly.Even so,still a good idea to bleed the fluid.
Sounds like the lever pin was badly adjusted causing the clutch to slip. The driving plates are probably cooked.A genuine set of plates costs around £380 these days, but you can get a Barnett clutch pack for a lot less.

As mentioned before,it aint rocket science to change it yerself.
An expensive lesson learned on cheap levers made in the far east,I think.

Half an hour??!!??!! How many cup of tea do you need before you start work?

Just leave 'em soak in oil over night before you slam 'em in.
Also, consider new pressure plates...a little bit more expense I know...but that clutch action will be soOoOoOoooooo smoooooooooth...just like new in fact.

LOL, just the one usually, I watched Griff do one on an RSV that had just come back from one of Griffs thorough road tests and it took 18 minutes including removal of the fairing panels, the bolts and plates were fookin hot as well, so half an hour should do for us mere mortals:thumbup

Its not the cheap levers thats the problem its the adjustment when fitting that screws things up ! There should be some free play between the operating pin and the master cylinder piston otherwise it won't function correctly.

I would suggest me posting a pictorial of fitting and adjusting when mine arrive but i really don't think i'm going to bother fitting

Jist make sure yer use plenty of loctite on the pin threads.
