FFS!!! New tyre lowside........

rico - interesting. I put it down to the fact a big V twin puts out a lot of grunt at low revs, so gives the rear tyre a much harder time. Most of the IL4s I've had wouldn't pull the skin off a rice puddn at the kinds of revs I was at on the T (maybe 2,500-3,000) when the rear let go.

I'm just gonna put this one out there and see what people say. Yes new Tyres aren't scrubbed in. But and it's a big but fuelled by lots of drink I've ridden with gilo a couple of times and he's a good rider. Could it have been that you might have hit a pach of the slippery stuff they use to put the Tyres on with. After all how many people clean their Tyres after they've been put on

Excess tyre fitting soap is often problem B min as ye rightly point oot.

Nah I reckon he was ok with his right wrist which is why i made the point of the tyre soap (cheers RICO for thT word).

You attention seeking like me, G?!!

Seriously though, gutted for you. It's a real pisser.

Thankfully damage to you and your T wasn't' too bad.

What THE **** is goin on ? Blimey! You boys are taking it well, some lads would saying the bikes are **** I'm selling pile of crap blah blah bollox.
Geoff gb.lh whatever his monika is just down the road from me did exactly the same thing at 5mph out side his house about a month ago. He scratched his clutch cover too though, and his mother in law was watching, ouch.

We're all doomed a tell thi.

Keith - it did occur to me that on a faired bike the damage would have been a lot worse. Even if a fairing didn't crack it would be scratched to buggery - expensive as hell, and if you go s/h no guarantee the colours will match exactly.
Yeah,..and it aint just the damage to the fairing,etc......its the little scuffs on the 'bar ends and forks that piss you off.I was lucky,....I got a complete footrest assembly from a guy in the Ducati club and a good fairing lower on ebay.Bike was just over a year old so it had'nt had for the paintwork to fade.
Blimey,...that was 8 years ago now!
Another reason naked bikes rock :thumbup
Naked V twins....yes,naked Jap 4's,....not.Saw a big Kwak in Leicester pull a wheelie that went wrong.Bike came down and punched the crank through the cases!:eek

Nah,it will be the release agent they use at the factory to get the tyre out of the mould.
For the first few miles on new tyres, yer need to take it easy,....as if there was ice on the road.Get some heat in the tyres and gradually build up the lean angles and throttle openings. After about 50 miles you should be able to ride as normal.

According to dunlop there is no such thing as release agent for the moulds keith, a forum I was on interveiwed a dunlop boss on this.

All it is the fact its nice and shiny when its moulded

I am interested to find out how many people have this problem as the weather warms up, maybe we will find its a mixture of things that have caused this

Shiny tyres
Cold tyres
oil or deisel on road
Stones on road
White lines
Soft suspension

A little slide can turn into a big slide, enough to get the sliding started then the wrists gets twitched and too much power from our beasties at low revs all add up to distaster

A Benelli tornado rider friend did this last year at the end of his road and unfortunatley he broke bits of the bike and himself, so you were both very lucky guys

I went to the Food Stop on the Bridgnorth Kiddy road today and a bloke skited his big green Kwak in the carpark ... what made it more embarrassing for him was he had to wait ... for about 10 mins ... before he could get it started again ans dide away.

There were 87 bikes there at the time and the comined "OooooooooooH" when it fell was quite a sound!

Hmm,interesting.

Personally.I lobbed my 999 due to tyres not being fully scrubbed in and a wider than usual "chicken strip."So,..big lean + small shiney contact patch +cold tyre/road surface+ big throttle =lowside.
At my age I ought to know bettr!

Imo it's not the best time of year fir new hoops, cold surface, cold air, cold tyres and the road surface is full of grit and ****.

I wis in ma shed the other day and ran ma fingers over the rear tyre, the chicken strips were as slippery as a bar of wet soap.

Bloody hell, it's catching. I'm getting worried as I'll need a new rear tyre soon too...

Were they decent types up there today, sometimes take the wife and kids in the car and on the odd ocassion its a bunch of foul mouthed idiots, most of the time its great.

Not so good dropping your bike. Funny thing is couple o folk on this thread have said they have done it, both on Dunlop tyres. I wrote off my GTR1400 last year pulling out from a junction with new tyres on, 15 mph maximum and down we went with bike hitting kerb and wrecking itself, and they were Dunlop Roadsmarts. Had the Roadsmarts fitted to another bike and for a start they were horrible real slippy but once scrubbed in thought they were great. New tyres for T in a week or so, wander if it will be Dunlops ................:dunno

I was gonna get the same tyres as gilo but ended up going for Pilot road 3's in the end. Popped out today on them only for half hour and a few miles just to get them slightly scrubbed in and had no such scares and I gave it a fair bit of throttle on some stages of the road i was on but just eased back a little on the corners making sure to keep the speed steady. Seem pretty good tryes from the limited mileage I've done on them. Aiming to get out next Sunday and give them a bit of a better scrubbing in.

Feel for ya dude. Least damage was minimal & your ok.

I too am thinking I need to get myself some of these R&G bad boys.
