What a git of a day.

Went out, taking my mate who's just passed his test to get him up to speed and show him the local biking roads.

Did a nice 60 mile round trip, had a few stops, then near home, I had a tussle with an 05 plate RR Blade, who drifted past me, so of course, I chased him :biggrin

I pulled off at the next roundabout, to wait for my mate to catch up, luckily, then noticed a plume of steam when i stopped.

So I got off to find the whole lhs and front wheel, tyre, brakes soaking wet....

Bloody stone had gone through my lh radiator! If I had carried on playing with the other CBR, I'd have flicked across the roundabout at about 70, as it's one I know well.

Ebay for a new rad and B&Q for some mesh to make some covers now.:pirate

Do 2000 year ones fit an '02???? If not anyone got a LHS one for an '02??

Oh dear  i'm glad i've done my rad covers now....i closed the gate before the horse bolted :biggrin

Yes the morale is, DO IT!

I was going to, but it's too late.

Any ideas on rad fitment guys???

thats bad luck, I've put some alu mesh over oil rad as that seems very vulnerable low down i was going to do rads with alu aswell but read on another bike forum someone that done rads with alu mesh and shortly afterwards had stone hit rad and still damaged it causing leak, so maybe stainless steel mesh would be better than alu :)

Well since it was an RR this will make you feel better....

Mate of mine got a brand new RR and on the first outing took a stone through his radiator!!!

As it was a brand new bike needed a new one. Guess how much? £700 !!!!!!

TT

Pretty sure they're the same mate - my 03 and the 99 set I have look the same (however I can't go and check as I've taken the stuff to france now - but I'm pretty sure they're the same fitment like I say).

cheers

cheers for replies guys. I won a pair off the bay at the time I posted last night, off a 2000 MY so hopefully all good.

I will e-mail amb about his, or knock some up at the weekend.

Have to feel for the guy's £700 rad!

Not sure if I was chasing a 600 / 1000 RR to be honest, i hit the limiter in 5th before I let off.

Lesson learned, still can't believe how lucky it was I had already planned to turn off left and he was going straight on. I'll put some pics on here later in the week, off my tyres and the rad.

Thats good, at least your sorted! Did you have to pay mush for them?

I had the same problem on my last bike but the radiator actually fractured under vibration rather than a stone hole. I got it welded and only cost £35, he did a good job too :thumbup

Im in the middle of making some guards up for mine from alu mesh, just got it back from the anodiser's, got it done Red :thumbup

Got a result, rads for under £30 off ebay + P&P.

Just hope they are sound.

B&Q have mesh for a good price. Anyone who did theirs able to advise how big a sheet is going to be bog enough please?

I think they have a 500 x 500mm sheet for under £20, but if that won't do both rads and the oil cooler, I may need 2 or 3 smaller sheets.

TA.

JayB..If your wanting to go with the steel option like mine, its No33 500x500mm drawn steel from B&Q, was about £16.
I done both rads and oil cooler no problem with one sheet.
One bit of advice if you get some..take care when handling it, the edges are like razor blades, as I found out:eek:

I did mine like V60's but got two sheets 250x500 steel ( £8ish each) and sprayed them black. I had enough to do both rads, oil cooler and the two little vents at the side. Also did the two little side vents on the rear fairing and also cutouts I did on the side panels under the seat :thumbup There will be plenty with x2 250x500 sheets or one 500x500 :thumbup

What did you use to cut the mesh to size and what did you use to secure it in place.
Looks spot on :thumbup

V60 - spot on mate, was looking at no. 30 or 33, but the prices were all over the place and I was in a rush so waited.

Sprocker - cheers also.

I think I'm gonna just do the rads & cooler. Might take the opportunity to have the previous owner's scars from Brands eradicated also, so means removing the nose cone and ears for painting.

I used tin snips to cut it,I threaded cable ties through the mess then tied them to the rad brackets.
As for the oil cooler, I bonded the mess to the inside of the fairing with EVO GRIP high strength adhesive.
Also done the little vents on the seat unit ( used EVO GRIP for those too)...
