Alright lads, old story but i just need some clarification on a few points. My 04 T has been having some nasty starting issues, leaving me stranded a few times. I charge the battery and in a day or two its low enough to not be able to turn over the engine. Regardless of whether i use it or not. Seems like the charge is just leaking out somewhere.
The bike is unmodified in anyway, so it still has its brown connectors and original starter relay/ rectifier. The battery is about 6 months old and I didn't have any problems with it for the first 3/4 months. Could the bat. be damaged from the discharges?
I figure I'll change the starter relay and dig out the multimeter.
The code for the yamaha part was posted as being 4KD-81940-00-100a but the only part i can find is 4KD-81940-00, http://www.cmsnl.com/products/starter-relay-assy_4kd8194000/. Is this right?
Also someone said to try a bigger bat. is this a good idea or would it have a knock on effect with the charging system?
Bit of a rambling post but I'm stuck and fed up of not being able to rely on my machine. Any thoughts would be apprciated.
Cheers

There is a current thread about this issue over on AF1. Tony (FTM) was having similar issues. Thread is here You will have to read through the piss taking of course, but I think it covers all the points.

My 07 T, Andiamo, is having some hard starting issues in the last couple of weeks. But it was -10C when she was. I started her for a hoon yesterday when it got up to +17C in mid November, without issue. :)
I know this doesn't help, I was just bragging.

I swapped to a bigger high quality battery and haven't had any problems since, touch wood

That battery looks like a monster! Worth the money?

Smaller than stock, but some people rave about them. Some say get the YT14 some say a decent YT12 (i think that's correct).

Personally i like the Odyssey but would just as easily spend my money on a cheaper battery and an optimate/charger.

I've heard that some have hard mounted a charging plug to the outside of the frame for every night charging. That seems to be a little harsh and I have to admit that I would have a hard time justifying Tuono ownership if I had to put up with that ******** all the time!

Mine does indeed have a wire hardwired in for the solar charger. (No electricty by bike) So every couple of days i throw the charger on and it keeps it sweet. It bothers me very little.

If i used the bike more i don't think i'd need it.

What do you mean 'hard wired' Shvly ? I have a tiny lead and connector poking out near the seat to plug the trickle charger in. Works great and only 20-25 quid.

yuasa YTX14-BS

same as is fitted to the RSV why they made it smaller on the T I don't know, you will need to put a spacer under the retainer as the battery is taller.

Looking to change the rectifier next, any idea what make and model it should be? Can't seem to find it mentioned when people are talking about it, yamaha as far as I know.

Looking to change the rectifier next,

Why ?

What makes you think it's the rectifier ? There's a bloke on the AF1 forum that makes and supplies rectifiers for Tuonos which have a greater output from the stock item. I think he wanted about $80 for it and you should get 14.7v accross terminals.

Do a search over tehre as i don't think i've kept any details or information on him.

I'm having alot of battery problems and charging issues, so i was just going through the list of common issues. This seemed to be one, plus its not too fiddly. I was planning on doing the rectifier, new bat. and the brown connectors on top of checking the wiring loom for loose/damaged connections. Do you think this is a bad plan?

I only see it as a bad plan if you've not actually tested the Rec and found out it's bad.

Personally i'd be doing the easier/quicker and cheaper jobs first like the brown connector fix, the optimate (or other) and giving all the wiring a check, clean and earth.

Of then you're still getting a rubbish charging figure, then get the better rec.

out of interest, what charging figures are you getting at idle and 4000 ?
