Hi, in another thread it came to my attention that I may be doing more harm than good, starting my bikes every 2 weeks during the winter period, bike is on optimate all time. Is this bad or a good thing??? fd.

Dont worry Aldo Im here to stay & your bag is in good hands. XX Ahhhh.:rolleyes

Starting yer engine every two weeks or more is not a good thing. You run the risk of creating condensation and contaminating the oil.Just make sure the bike is clean, dry and mebbe squirt an anti corrosion spray over the bike.(Scottoiler 365,ACF50 or similar.)Dont get it on the brake discs!
Another good idea is to top up the fuel and add a bit of stabilizer.
Charge the battery up on the Optimate but dont leave it on all the time.Give the battery a rest every two weeks or more. Those Optimates are'nt the best ya know,....despite all the blurb.

Phew, and whit KB said. There was a thread aboot yer very question not so long ago, a had a look for it but couldnae find it, maybe it was on another forum?

Same here. Put the battery on the Optimate, week on week off. Add some stabiliser & make sure you stowe it away dry.
I always learned that most "damage" is done at cold start, so it's never good to start it when you don't need to.

I've always started my bikes to be honest and never had a moments problem I always let it warm up totally and not only let it tick over but also raise the revs like if I was riding it get the fan to kick in at least twice mind thats with jap bikes but don't know if the aprilias are a different kettle of fish be interesting to hear wot u owners say.....

Why?
I've had bikes for over 35 yrs and never started them over the winter, cant see the point. What is there to gain?

I tried to find the thread that dealt wae this subject earlier but nae joy, and it wisnae all that long ago.

Well for a start I don't have a optimate........besides it's only the same as using the bike in the winter (meaning ur still starting the bike in the cold and maybe going to work or other) it was only last month that I took the bike off the road because the weather was getting worse

Cheers mucker but a couldnae find it there either, whit a fud.

I posted it on the other chanel, a few contentious issues arose. Nett outcome not a good thing. Especially if you have a 12 Cylinder light aircraft.

****, now what shall I do with me light aircraft.....I hate it when this happens.....Must get rid of that plane collection.. fD.

fD, now a know whit tae do yer could leave them in ma charge.
