Which profile 190 or 180

mine came with a 190. may go with a 190/55

and I raised my yoke to make it more stable in long sweepers while on the gas. It had a tendency to want to wallow

This might have more to do with damping settings, rather than geometry?

I dropped my yokes down another 5mm (now showing 2 rings) this morning, then took her for a blat. I went up Mt Stuart - a nice, tight technical sort of road - and boy, what a difference. Very much quicker on the turn-in, without feeling flighty or unstable.

Then a real blast on some looong curves and some fairly straight sections which saw 240kmh come up on the speedo. Again, still very stable, but much quicker to steer.

I may try another drop just to see the difference; but I am very happy with this result.:thumbup

Good work Chunky, nice progressive changes and feedback. Was going to drop my yolk today. :thumbup

I'll fanny on with mine next week, as today I'm off to Turkey for my summer hols.
Catch you lovely lot later. X

Got to change the water wetter out of Andiamo todayso thinking that I might get the spanners out and drop the yokes another 5mm while at it. She already seems to turn in quite nicely for me, but then I have the advantage of height and weight to throw my little gal around.

Oh, and about 6K km on the Pilot 2s right now, including two track days and just starting to get a flat spot from Alberta riding. The first time I have ahd a set of tires last a season. I put them on last fall and haven't had to worry about them since. Previous mileage on the Pirellis was <5k with chords showing, and a little greater for the Dunlops. If I go stickier next summer, I am going ot trailer Andiamo to the mountains and save 1500 km of flat road riding, methinks...

Feels good aye Chunk!!! I have dropped mine 8mm from stock 12mm in total from top of fork or 2.5 rings if you prefer it that way.

Still solid as you like in the fast sweepers but tips in like its telepathic now.

Fakkin ell everyones at it, just dropped mine down to 2nd ring.

Raining like a mother out there with 50 kph gusts... Methinks this is a job for tomorrow. No garage so the wrenching is being done out of doors.

What sort of mileage are you guys getting from the Pilot Power 2ct ?

Mine is now on the wear limits ands it's done 2,900 miles. so I reckon I've got about 500 miles more out of the 2CT over the std Pilot Power I had fitted previously.

I dropped mine down to 4 rings and the handling was still superb, although friends who rode the bike claimed it dropped into corners like it was falling off a cliff.
However when cleaning the bike I noticed that the front tyre had been rubbing on the radiator guard under hard braking (the black plastic strip along the base of the rad), not a problem as such, but an idea of how much the geometry is altered when you do this mod, or of course an idea of just what a fat git I am!:lol

I've now gone back to just 2 rings showing and I'm happy with that setting

Good post there F9. It gives me an idea about how far you can go. I will go a little further, probably until I'm unhappy, then go beck to where it was best.

2 rings for me, went out today and it was much better than 1 ring. I think you would have trouble describing the diference until it was tried like I did.
Much more responsive and stable around various corners at various speeds. :thumbup

wallow may be a bad choice of words. When in a corner you want the bike to feel like you could take your hands off of the bars and it would hold your line in the corner. With the yokes lowered you instead feel as the the bike would continue to fall into the corner. In fact you almost feel as if you are having to hold the bike to stop it from falling in

I too hate this phenomenon. It's an insecure feeling. I have found tyre choice (profile and wear) can also affect this.

I see you have your forks set at the top of the yokes. This should not be necessary, as witnessed by those who have posted in this thread with up to three lines showing at the top of the forks.

I feel it was necessary. anytime you rake something out the rear is going to follow more easily. with the yoke lowered turn in is too great. take your hands off the bars and tell me how it goes! lol

My suspension settings will all be different from all you boys[visa versa] and this too is effective when entering and exiting a corner/how you brake in/gas it out/tyre profiles etc. But in dropping from 1 to 2 rings I noticed no 'tipping' in as I have on previous bikes, though I sometimes reckon that was to do with messing with the adjustable steering dampers. What I got was a nice predictable feel and a stable line with no turning in or drifting wide.
My T now holds its line in any corner until I change it. :thumbup

Im with you Nobby but we both have factories so may feel slight diff to the R boys. As you say though mine is still rock solid in the long fast sweepers but when I want to turn quick into a sharpish 60 mph bends its a LOT less effort.

The real proof in this was when I did Cadwell a few weeks back. The bus stop shicane used to be a handfull flicking from one side to the other, where knees, pegs everythig has to be used to get over both sides at anything like quick, but with the yoke dropped it was 100% better.

I've 4 rings showing on the forks, turn in is really quick, but bike does nod it's head a little under hard acceleration, slight weave on high speed corners.

For those who know the circuit, it wallows ever so slightly up Coppice if I turn in above ~120mph. Chris Curve (about 90) is rock solid, and it can be flicked over through the Gooseneck effortlessly.

Bike is a Tuoldo 05 R model with Ohlins rear shock, revalved forks, & Oz wheels. Suspension set for my (considerable) weight. I also have the Ohlins steering damper which will dial out the weaves, but makes it heavier through the twisties.

Tyres are Pilot Power 2CT's 180/55 on the rear, usually running about 32psi both ends on track. Last rear tyre was totalled once we got back from this years Spain trip, but it had also done France the year before and 2 or 3 trackdays. Total Mileage about 6000. (It was almost slick on our return) Previous tyre did about 5k, combination of trackdays, local scratching and some long distance stuff.

FYI we had a bit of a change of plan on the Spain trip. My fuel pump failed, meaning we missed our Ferry, and had to ride through France, adding about 1000 miles to our overall trip, and taking the tyre from "it will need a new one when I get back" to "can I get one in Spain?" [A. No - far too much wonga]

I must admit that I did it the easy way and went for a professional suspension setup - honestly the best £40 I have ever spent on a bike.
I would recommend it to anyone.
