What to look out for? i'm searching for a Tuono!

Re. Tuono, what to look out for:

Best to listen for a thunder clap and then a fast pair of wheels spinning past! :lol

Gen1's avoided the electrical gremlins, but for your money you are into Gen2 territory.

The Rotax engines are bomb proof, so you should get 50+ really easy, with the usual regular oil changes.

Re. Bikes.
Interesting, like you I loved my SV650 (SK1), especially the engine and handling, but wanted more power. Rode a VFR800 - great all rounder, tourer, but not enough low down grunt and doesn't pull like a stream train. Tuono is definitely the way to go if you want that and an upright riding position...

Thats exactly what im hoping from the Tuono. I dont like to have to rev the nuts off stuff, i like the power being there when i want it, not mashing down the gearbox haha.

Well guys.. i did put a deposit down on a Tuono yesterday.

2010. 6k on the clock (which im convinced is genuine.. it looks like a 6k miles bike and has full service history to prove it). Its white and silver, really impressed with the conditon, clocks are crack free :D. etc etc.

Extra's...
-Smaller front sprocket
-Delkavic cans
- Running map 2
-machine polished swing arm (the previous Pipeworx cans make a scuff in the swingarm apparently? It's been polished out and the Delkavic cans miss completely, so that good)

Really pleased with it. Cant wait to go and pick it up!

You might be seeing abit more of me around here now ;).

Thanks for all your help.. i shall post a pic when i've brought it home.

Congrats! Post a picture or two when she's "home"

Ta :)

Will do yeah. I'll be cleaning it up to my standards first though ;).

Hoping its not raining when i go to pick it up. It will have a brand new soft compound sport tyres (cant remember what make or model he said), it'll be a completely unfamiliar bike, and even worse itll be a Tuono :D. I'll just have to be very steady i think, if it is raining.

Well here she is...

I picked it up last night, just in time for it to pee it down with rain. So my first ride was 80 miles in the rain, going dark half way back with a brand new tyre on, which wasn't the nicest! But i still had a grin on my face. That engine is a peach isnt it!

Gave it a quick clean today and took it for a quick spin in the dry. My god they pull well don't they! Not even been above 7k yet and not even full throttle, but it absolutly blows the VFR out of the water completely. It just wants to head for the horizon, fast! Turns very well too mind. I love it!

Just need to sort the side stand issue out.. its bloody horrible. I'm forever thinking its going to fall over..

Thanks for all your help

Thanks guys! I am really happy with it. I looked around a quite a few n its the best condition one i could find and it was at a reasonable price too, so that was a bonus. It's got 6k miles on the clock, with full service history and all the paperwork to back it up too.

It's a Sachs shock mate. It was fitted by Griff at Aprilia Performance in Tamworth at the end of last year. He fitted that, set up the suspension, gave it a full service, balanced the throttle bodies, changed the clutch fluid and updated the software (apparently theres different editions of map2?) . I think im going to try and use him for all my servicing and work in the future, i've read nothing but good things.

Just a few little things to sort out...
1. Those stupid sticky pads where the previous owners headlight protectors went on.
2. Find a place for the Garmin Zumo and run the wiring.
3. The horrible sidestand. It's horrendous lol.

Oh and i really would like to change those plastic cowl side panel things (near the front of the bike, next to the frame) from plastic to carbon fibre and a carbon hugger to match.

Thanks for all your kind comments.

Hi Oli,

Bike looks sweet, well done.

My take on the points raised as follows:
1. Sticky pads from headlight proctors, had these on mine, they do peel off and bit of parafin will remove the glue residue without damage
2. I used a small extension for my zumo and it tucked in nicely next to the bar clamp without obscuring the clocks
3. Fit a fireblade stand (I think 2007 onwards is a direct replacement) or a blackbird which requires a new hole drilling for the switch lug. Fireblad item is about £50 new.

Other than that enjoy.

With regard getting Griff to maintain it, get a couple of other guys together and if there are three bikes for serive he will come to you, obviously need to book it up with him well in advance but a great service.

Phil

Lovely machine there, what tyres are they? I always say to mates when we swap rides : 3k it pulls , 5k it really starts to pull, 7k look out it goes mad! Enjoy it

Nice looking steed . very clean in the pics . wise choice on using A/performance good bunch o blokes ,

and if its got some aprilia performance paperwork with it when you sell it , that will pay dividends if you get my drift.

and if you twist Griffs arm he may well chuck in a free A/P t shirt fer free .:thumbup

Ah brill! Very good to hear, thankyou!

Am i right in thinking that Griff supplies and fits the sidestands? I dont mind paying, i could do it myself, but id rather know its right. It'd cost me more in damage and heartache if it was wrong, than if i just paid to have it sorted haha.

Didnt know he came out, thats good! Unfortunately all my mates are Jap il4 people haa.

Thanks! :)
