Urgent Mille 2001 starting troubles....

Basically my bike died on me yesterday, just cut out with no warning, I tried to restart it but the battery (top of the range and pretty new) soon went dead.

After re charging the battery the motor turns over but the fuel pump doesn't prime anymore and it won't start, the worst part is I have a track day a week on Wednesday so I'm dying to get this sorted and not miss this and lose my £150.

If anyone has any info on how I can diagnose & fix this asap I'd be really grateful, I've read about the crappy solenoids etc but I wouldn't know where to look and don't have a Haynes manual.

Just to really punish me, my internet is broken at home and on the mobile so I'm at a friends on his pc and will check this as much as I can.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the clue is the fuel pump not priming. Check the white connector below the seat behind the side pannel - right hand side from memory. Mine was corroded and after I cleaned it up the pump worked again.

I also had a broken wire under the seat on another occasion from where the alarm had been disconnected and joined (badly)

What I would say is dont keep trying to turn it over unless you hear the pump prime. If theres no fuel getting there it will never start and possibly cost you a spragg.

Ok I'm gonna check all this tomorrow as soon as I can.

Are you ruling out the solenoid, as the bike turns over? I'm really not clued up on electronics.

Thanks again

Ive never experienced the solenoid problem, but the lack of fuel pump noise suggests thats your first point of call.

If it's turning over it's not the solenoid
Check the tip over sensor next to solenoid it should rattle if not then it's stuck give it a tap make sure it's the right way up aswel

Sounds like it's definitely the fuel pump connector.

Mine did this often as it seems that the connector is a little loose with age. Cable tie around the connector means problem solved!

Top tip mate, i'm considering changing the whole connector but a cable tie will be a good stop gap.

Thanks a lot for the help. I took the rear fairings off and looke at the connectors. as you said, there was a big one on the right of the seat behind the mesh panel. of the 3 pins inside one of them was very loose, I lubed it up and put a cable tie tightly around it and everything seems to work fine now.

took it out for 20 odd mins and all seems well! I'm gonna look to replace this plug but I just mant my trackday done 1st :)
anyone had to replace this?

would the contact just have been knocked out of place mid ride?

big thanks again :)
