Hello,
Recently my 2004 RSV1000R got REALLY hot (116*C).
I put it away for a couple of days and the next time I rode it, really paid attention to the temp on the instrument panel.
I noticed that the engine was really hot between my legs (usually what I feel when the temp gauge is working correctly and it's running around 101*C while I sit in traffic), BUT in this case the temp gauge was only reading like 76*C....which was absolutely incorrect for how hot it was.
When it was safe to do so, I'd keep riding and look down at the gauge and notice that it'd stay at a certain temp (say 76*C, but felt MUCH hotter), then would go to 83*C INSTANTLY, then to 74*C INSTANTLY, then to 68*C INSTANTLY....then back to the 70's, and so forth.
Could a faulty/stuck thermostat cause such rapid temp swings, or is there something wrong with the computer (and if the latter, how do I reset it so that it's reading the engine temp correctly)?
Thanks,
Justin
