Just collected a 2001 RSV Mille R. @15,000 miles but a swapped out motor ( @15000 miles) Next move - plastic off, valves checked - Ill get a closer look at the size of my folly tomoz...!

Is there OBD on board ? Is it accessible without an Aprilia agent ?

I think he means on board diagnostics where you join the two loose cables and that should display some info or the ability to read codes with something like item number 360467533764 on evil bay but then I have been to both talk utter hillocks and get the wrong end of the stick ... Sometimes both together but that's my guess

The cable is for connection to the laptop ?
Which wires are we speaking of ? Or perhaps it is unnecessary to butcher the loom if I use of the cheap cables ?
At this point I am hoping to just bring codes to the dash, and then work out how I find the Aprilia list of codes.

Lift the seat and to the right of the battery there is a single barrel connector joining that up displays fault code on the dash 0 is normal.

Just bear in mind that any faults will be cleared when you turn the key off and the diagnostic reset

There will be a list of codes on here somewhere

Thnx for the info fellas !
This bike seems to redline very early....! I get a red light flashes on - indicating "max" - at a mere 6000rpm ! This cant be right can it ? I read that this was a free revving v-twin...6k is half of the dial suggested 12k. Surely I get 10k without too much drama huh?
:dunno

The rev limiter (soft) is custom setable (is that a word), if you disconnect the battery and then reconnect the rev counter defaults to the 6k indication you see.

Customisable rev limit setting....that must play havoc with Aprilia warranties...!
How does one set a sensible redline, and what should it be on a gen 1 engine? I understand gen 1 limiter kicks in earlier than a gen 2...

This is a soft limiter and is set in 500 rpm increments, press button "C" on the dash with ign on but engine not running. Dont set above 10.5k

once again scott is the man!! but please be aware this is just a shift light and not a rev limiter ....

no point in revving the bike past 10.500 aside from potential engine damge theres no point the power ran out and stopped at 10k on a standard EPROM

hope this helps??

I gotta do the fork seals - leaking !
I been searching variously and found comments from old threads etc... I've opted for the 1309-01 (so-called) 5W Ohlins oil...I hope this is the right gear ? I plan track use only.
