Suspension settings.

thats not far off the settings in the manual mate, adjusted mine today and will give it a go next week

hope not mate as heading up there on Sunday with the son weather permitting :yes

i know its costly but i cant recommend a descent damper highly enough. put an ohlins on mine and it made a big difference. lots of adjustment and worth its weight in gold on track !!

Tyre pressures checked before each ride.
Don't think its a steering damper issue, I used an ohlins on a blade I had a while ago, it stopped it shaking its head, but this is different

After a ride out yesterday I felt when I was pushing on the bike felt a bit wollowy, not as stable as it could be. So today changed them to settings in this article:-
http://www.sportrider.com/suspensio.../146_suggested_suspension_settings/index.html
Haven't been out yet, but nothing to lose, well a bit of bounce here & there. Who knows it may be totally transformed.:eek

Good link Grin,
Just been in the garage to alter the settings on my Gen 1 as since Ive got used to it (only had it a couple of months) Ive noticed the back end is like a pogo stick. I know the std sachs shock gets panned by most but a bit of adjustment cant do it ant harm. The only issue I have had is setting the rear compression as the link says 7 clicks out but the shock has no clicks on the compression adjuster but will turn fully 3 times. I have set it at half way with the intention of adjusting on next ride out but any advice would be appreciated. Dropped the forks to the 4th marker aswel so should also speed up the already quick steering.

Hmmm interesting. Only picked the bike up on saturday so not really had time to try it out. I have an 04 gen1 with a matrins steering damper that is adjustable, no head shake so far.
On a short blast yesterday on one of my favourite bits of road the front end started to slide momentarily, just long enough for me to return home for new pants anyway.
I think the cause was the front tyre not scrubbed in at that angle.
As for suspension settings it feels firm. I think suspension settings are a bit subjective and dependant on the riders height, weight etc.
Just try i suppose see what suits you.
Anyone else running bt014's???

Heds, had the same problem on my Gen 2 with no audible click howver if turned slowly enough you can feel a slight change in pressure

As above Heds, the clicks are so slight you can hardly feel them, more like a gentle tap. On mine there was about 5 or 6 to each full turn, if that any help.

Cheers lads, that's me back in the garage then. Best turn the rock music down while I'm setting it up.

had a good run up to Alston today with no major problems, stopped at Staindrop and made a couple of minor tweaks and all seems well. fingers crossed

Good stuff Brooksy. I'm out tomorrow so I'll see how mine is. + i've got a 4 stone advantage.

I also have set mine up as per this link.
But being a gazelle, I have not wound the pre-load on the rear spring as much as suggested.
Had a run around the back roads of Durham / Lanchester / Tow Law last night, they are a bit choppy & rough in places.
Seems a bit harsh front & back (not unbearably), but not wallowy, but I am no expert.

This may be a daft question, but whats the best thing to start to change to make it a bit smother over the choppy stuff but keeping it stable ?
Damping or spring tension ?

Olaf try the link above, at first it seems a bit confusing but you will soon get the idea :thumbup

Did Hartside run today, then Devils bridges, Middleton & found it a bit too hard. Going to back off front comp & rebound a tad. May back off rear rebound 1 click too and take it from there. Keeping a record tho'

Set the compression to just under half and then about 30% from fully out on the rebound.
Increase by one click of rebound every 10 miles until you think you need to go back because it's feeling too hard.
This method may not suit everyone, but once you have gone BACK a click on the rebound you can stiffen the compression.
I run 10mm static sag and approx 25/30mm laden at the back, but have done the front by feel. I probably have 90mm
Of travel at the front, laden, front and back on standard gen 2 springs.
Hope this is some help to someone, somewhere.
