ok progress!!

No spark to rear cylinder .. tested with new plug .. still no spark .. so thats good (weird you might say ) but at least i have a direction to head instead of looking blindly !!

hmm not looking nice in there !!

EDIT: Btw who decided fitting the coil there was a good idea .. anyone got any spare skin for my knuckles ?

EDIT 2 : both coils tested ok at 0.8ohms which seems ok to me (manual shows 0.4 to 1.4 ) connectors are pretty poor nich.. covered in powder from corrosion and all white round the connectors .. just looking for some nail files to clean them up and will pop a little vasaline on there . suspect its from where i jet washed the bike last year (i never jet wash the bike )

Right .. so after further testing spark to front and no spark on rear . removed coil .. cleaned up connectors and refitted.. still no spark to rear . Moved rear lead to front coil and sparks fine so proves cable/plug is fine. Tried front lead into rear coil which was tested working and no spark . So unless its the ecu that would prove that the rear coil is faulty .

So next question is anyone have a coil pack spare ? or wanna sell ? I dont think there is any difference between the rsvr 2004 onwards and the tuono 2006 onwards

Ok ordered a coil pack .. should be here Tuesday . Lets hope this is the end of my electrical niggles (although i have the feeling im not out the woods yet )

I feel for you mate, not much use I know, but keep us posted on the final outcome.

Someone hates me lol

Ok coil arrived .. Never had chance to fit it till tonight . Popped the tank up and all the gubbins out and fitted the new coil .

Tested front cylinder and lovely spark . Tested rear and NOTHING f*ck me !!! WHY !!!!

Reversed it all again and spark at rear and none at front . Chances of it being 2 faulty coils were unlikley .

So i had a break for a cuppa and a ponder . And decided to fit the old ecu

And !!

And!!

A fat spark at both front and rear !!! BINGO!!

Or so i thought . Popped the airbox back on . reconected the plugs spun the starter and wont start .

So now i dont know if im coming or going !!

Is it the new ecu ? as i dont get a spark to the rear with it fitted ?

Spark with old ecu but the cold start issue ..

Parts list is getting bigger and im now no further forward in finding a solution !

New ecu/battery/plugs/ and coil and i just dont know now !

Anyone near northants who would let me whip out there ecu to try it to see if my expensive replacment is a duffer ?

Anyone ? Im getting desperate here .. have 5k doorstop hehe

Getting more and more tempted once its running to chop it in for a V4 but cant even do that when its not running !!

Agreed ... But it matched your one .. so unless its a duffer :/ ffs .. Anyone for some ecu swappage ? will cover fuel/tea/bacon sarnies ;)

Just a quick update .

Spoke with Griff and confirmed replacement ecu is duff .

Its on its way back to the breaker for a refund and the hunt continues

The v4 looks more promising every day !

Mate, get a working ecu in there, and it's game on.
The v4 is cool, but ffs it's another Piaggio innit?

Mate, looks like you may have to bite the bullet and buy a new one, good luck in your quest.

well just a quick update . got another ecu and it will be heading to italy to be flashed (was a rsvr ecu) so hopefully the italian mail dont loose it and i should be back on the road soon ..

Right it has been a while since i started this thread . and the bike has been left standing while life goes on with the intention of getting it sorted . Well the ecu went over to Italy and was flashed and returned . With a spring in my step i refitted some bits.. installed ecu and cranked.. And bugger all ....spins over but does not start just like original ecu . Checked battery voltage on crank and it was pretty low so the winter had killed the new battery . Thankfully it was a local motor factors who swapped it over .

So charged and replaced battery and after a few prods it started .. run for a few secs and died (just like old ecu ) check state of the fuel and it was old and crap so removed and flushed tank and replaced . No real difference.. starts 1 in 10 trys .. runs and dies after a few secs . No ecu codes shown .

So after pretty much 2 years im still where i started . i have the old ecu and new Gabro ecu that do the same thing . I have replaced the plugs/coil/leads/ecu/battery and checked all the obvious things . I have read pages and pages of fixes/solutions but nothing seems to work . What have i not done that will sort this ?

I cant see why it would be the relay (starter) as it spins up fine (and i even bypassed it to test ) i cant see why it would be the stator as it only cuts in when bike is started . the brown connector is fine . So that leaves some sort of sensor but surely the ecu would detect this ? (my ecu logs are clear ) .

I remember summit from ages ago about an issue with the fuel pump ...a pipe breaking or breaking down . Are there any more tests i can try .. Injector tests >? things to look at .. ANYTHING !! as im getting desperate lol

Regards

Snaggle

just noticed also since the forum rejig this is now in the gen1 section.. can it be moved to the gen 2 section where its of more use

Bloody hell Snaggle I'd have burnt mine by now if it didn't start for that long.

Anyway just read your thread part of your first post reminds me of a mates bike (RSV gen 2) his was losing power chugging and then suddenly give full power (Quite exciting for him it was)
His problem was a map sensor it didn't show as an error and pasted the manual checks
below is a little information I've googled. i think they are attached to the airbox

MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensors
What does a MAP Sensor do?
The MAP sensor converts engine vacuum/manifold
pressure to an electrical signal so the computer knows how
much load the engine is under. This data is the basis for
fuel delivery and timing control.

Good luck

atm im kinda leaning towards an issue with the fuel pump (low pressure) given it was an issue on my year and the factory did a recall notice on it ... more research needed

Hey Snaggle 10 out a 10, respect.
I've been messing about with old bikes for the last few years and looking at your very first post, if you were talking about an old BSA then I'd say its a sympton of running rich. My BSA did the same, started from cold after weeks & weeks left in a cold and would start first kick then died on me after 1/8 mile down the road. Flooded.
Leaned out the carbs (not me, my local bloke) and ran perfect.
It sounds possibly like a fuel issue but no idea what'll be causing it on modern tackle.

well spoke to my 2 local dealers today about the fuel pump and they say my bike is not in the recall . and the part only available from italy is £50 for 1 inch of hose and 4 clips . sooo it can be done without kit and replace all the hose but it would seem most hose is not fuel proof inside and out and because the pump is in the fuel it needs special hose . And normal clips dont work as they damage the hose so need special ones of them which are hard to get .. And all this and im not even sure its the pump heheh
