Lo all long time no see !!

Well my Tuono is a little poorley and not sure where to start . Its a 2006 gen II .

It did this last year and then cleared itself and has been fine since but this time it does not wanna play ball .

When cold (ie: has not been started or tried to start ) it will start .. feels like its running on 1 cylinder .. chug then stall and wont start .

It will then refuse to start after that and just spin over .

Leave it an hour and it will do the same . If i apply any throttle when it does start and it will just die .

Tends to backfire abit when starting .

It done this last year comming back from filling up with fuel . Comming up the hill it started loosing power and i coasted to the side of the road running rough and missing then cut out . It would restart but was running on 1 and missing alot . Pretty much on its last legs and battery nearly flat it started and finally cleared its throat and ran fine after that .

I took it for its MOT 3-4 weeks ago and it ran and started fine . Battery is fine and holding a charge fine and voltages are ok .

It feels like there is **** in the fuel but could be electrical .. I heard the usual culprits of brown connector (i dont seem to have one ) side stand switch .

Anyone help diag the issue ? even jump starting it made no difference :(

Sounds similar to the symptoms that Tifa and Dimania suffered when the ecu started playing up,....I do hope not.Another thing to check is the vacuum hose under the tank.They can split/fall off and give fuelling problems.
 
I too hope its not the ecu. It does sound like a fuelling problem to me, or it may sound daft, but a dodgy plug/connection.
 
i have a pc3 but the original ecu does the starting then switches over .. lets hope its not a ecu problem
 
well seems i have the 266531 so im guessing thats where my problems are comming from ... ffs :(
 
tifa did you just swap to a new ecu or get the remapped one from Gabro ?
 
You mentioned you have a PCIII in there?
have you done a quick disconnect? Does it fire up any better without it?

I bought another s/hand ecu off Mark (Tash) here on this very forum...

Gabro only managed to crack the GenII mapping code a few weeks ago....

I still have my old ecu gathering dust in the shed, it works OK..but remember, it's **** for starting
I can't bring myself to sell it(what sort of **** would knowingly sell a duff part anyway ffs?)

Anyhoo's....if you want it (perhaps to have a play with/get it reflashed/send it to Gabro/use it as a doorstop...whatever.....it's your's.....for the cost of the postage. :)
 
Thanks Tifa . Might take you up on that.. just looking at options now . There is an ecu on ebay atm but dont fancy chucking him £200 untested with no returns and in the states :( Gonna post on Af1 and see if i can get Gabro's attention as his mail box is full
 
Interesting....that's not my understanding....but you never know...

Give Griff a call at Aprilia Performance....I talked this through with him, and he said nope.
 
well spoke to griff after speaking to a few dealers who were utterly usless and the best i got was "bring it in and we will have a look" Griff knew about the issue.. confirmed it works and would flash the ecu and balance the tb's for a great price so will pop up there next week .

Lets hope its a fix as will save other owners alot of hassle
 
Well spent the day on the bike.. removed the pc3 ... cleaned the airbox.. reseated all the connections... checked the brown connectors . basically went through everything (including the sidestand switch) and can i get the dam thing to start ? can i fudge lol

So i have now booked holiday for a visit to Griff and cant get the bike to run so i can get up there ..

What do i do now ? What a total pain the *** all this is .. Am i gonna have to wait months for an ecu to turn up on ebay ? then get mine flashed then sell the newer one ? Im kinda stuck for ideas now . And missing all this dam good weather !!!
 
Give him a ring and speak nicely, he may pick your bike up in his big white van.
 
Well bike was at Griffs today and the flash did not work .. so ecu hunting for me :( gutted .. But big thumbs up to Griff for top service !!
 
It is Brooksy . BUT and its a big but .. He is in the USA... He has no returns on the advert .. No mention of if it works . Postage adds another £40 .. Might get hit with tax when it comes in ... Although he sells alot of stuff .. he has some right crap feedback ..

I have had it in my list for over a week now .. but i dunno if i dare risk ait and how i would stand with paypal if it was faulty
 
Snaggle it may be a long shot but it may be worth asking one of our American members I they could help out.

Snaggle, send him a message asking if its in working order and if his reply is yes then you can claim through paypal if its not working. if you read through e bays t & cs all items are returnable under buyers rights if the product is not as described.
as for the tax i have bought items from the US and not had any probs
