Picked up an american stand off eBay.com for $80 and luckily I had a friend who was in USA to bring it back for me.
I do have to say it is the best mod you can do. Compared to the std stand its night and day, and compared to the blade stand its so much more substantial. If you can get the american stand.
I was thinking of going on holiday and bringing a load back with me :)

Has anyone actually modified the existing stand? If so what did you do?
Buying a replacement is the easy way out I'd rather see if the exiting one can be modified.

I've just fitted a 97 blackbird stand that I got off fleabay. I used the Aprilia bracket and switch and just used the blackbird leg and spring (tried using the whole blackbird unit but it locks too far forward and makes the bike even more unstable!!) you do need to drill a small hole for the sensor pin on the switch to enable the safety cut-out to work. If you don't it's fine but you can engage gear whilst the stand is down. Hope this helps.

Easy way out? Safe way out.

I don't want the bike falling off a modified stand and then having to replace fairings or scratching frame (that's what happened elsewhere)

Hi Zuki
Can I ask if you simply asked for a side stand for a Tuono gen 2 in the US? My brother in law lives in the US you see.

Thanks
Steve

Hi guys,
Am looking for a stand for my T, considering it's soo clean (only cos I've not got it dirty yet) was going to take the easy route and buy a new Fireblade stand rather than a trying to find a US Aprilia one or a BlackBird one.
Would I be correct in assuming that the Fireblade stands doesn't need drilling like the BlackBird one?
Many thanks
Fugly

All good info here, thanks guys! Personally... as a newby... I'm still in process of deciding whether to upgrade side stand.

On the plus side, parking my Tuoldo in my shed (with piece of kitchen unit chipboard under the standard stand, bike sits sufficiently upright and stable, without taking up unnecessary width due to incline.

When it comes to parking on the street, or in a car park, if ground is level standard stand is fine. And if ground is not level, one only has to decide which way it inclines... then park with left-hand-side of bike on the low side! Not so hard to do, methinks (but then I could be wrong! :)), as it takes no more effort to reverse bike into parking spot than it does to reverse it out. So, the only real challenge is remembering side stand us unduly long and deciding whether to ride into parking spot or reverse in! :)

At this moment in time I think I can do that... but I agree...its definately not worth learning the hard way...!!

PS: That said...but std side stand did alert me to a flat tyre few weeks back. Pulled up at garage, dropped side stand and amazed bike was near verticle. Checked rear tyre and it was nearly flat! (Turned out valve spring was weak and pressure released when I checked out what 6th gear was for!! :thumbup). So...mixed blessing. Raised awareness of flat tyre but could hardly park bike at all on the level. But...hopefully, won't ever have that experience again!
