hi all im a newbie to the forum and have joined with a heavy heart as after a few years of 2ing and throwing ive jacked in the gixer and bought an 08 tuono factory but unfortunately things arnt going well took her out for our first ride the other day for her to suddenly stall on me then when i started her she stalled again and again and again and then god bless her she started and all was well untill i went out again and then she was popping and banging like there was a firework display going on inside my cans .then yet again she died and wouldn't start know lights know dash nothing so called the rac out and was told she had a charging problem so got the bike home bought and fitted a used reg/rec from a bike that's done 2k and what do you know within 5 mins she pops bangs and dies so ive now been told that its the stator thats knackered when she was supposed to have had anew stator last year so can anyone please shed some light in the subject before i go looking for a tall tree many thanks ...dan

Great intro fella. ;)

Classic symptoms there, new stator should see it...check out the brown connections and you should be good to go.

thanks tifa it looks like the dealer i bought her off new there was a problem to start with but he wont sort the problem under the 3 month warranty so it looks like greasy fingers tomorrow .what do you think of a used stator should i chance it or would you buy new.oh and thanks for replying much appreciated

Google
'west country windings'
they will re-wind your stator for a fraction of the cost of an oe replacement.

before you pull the stator cover off and away from the motor, attach some strong string to the brown connector. then when you pull the cover away, it will draw the string through the 'vee' in the engine. attach string to new connector or wire on new stator, and then you can pull the wire back through the vee in minutes. it saves ages trying to thread it through.

consider using a new gasket when you re fit the stator cover
consider doing an oil change at the same time, as the toasted stator is likely to dirty up your oil.

when you re fit the stator cover, be careful not to pinch the thin black wire (neutral indicator) as you do so.
watch your fingers when you re fit the stator cover...the magnets are strong and it's easy to trap/pinch your fingers...hurts like ****.

finally,
my bill is in the post

Once the bike is sorted, mebbe you could work on your punctuation?Took me ages to read that.;)

Dealer won't sort?

Hi. I have just joined the forum on reading your predicament. Excellent advice from other member and you have stated that the dealer knew of the problem and won't fix it, even with a 3 month warrantee? Really? Get it back to them, insist it is done ..... Never heard of a dealer knowing a problem and also not fixing it. Even if they do the labour and you buy the stator, it will be a huge help, surely. Don't let them fob you off.

paid cash but he insists he did,nt know about the problem when it seems to me he did .but lukily a pal of mine has given me a donor engine so im taking the stator from that and just hope it works but im still not finished with the dealer .think he,s gonna need to stock up on headache tabs

think your right . i wont be buying from him again /even his tech guy knows he,s took the piss

Does this not come under sale of goods act? Goods must be fit for purpose... And something about being as described? Eg if you were to buy this from eBay (weirdly) am sure there is some legal get out if the goods are not as described...

it's always worth putting some of the cost on either finance or credit card, you can clear it within 14 days but the finance or card company are just as liable for the bike or car as the dealer.

I had similar probs with the dealer I bought from, in the end they just don't know what they are doing with our favourite italian bestie and its little foibles.

The T is a simple bike to work on so unless you need the headache just spend a little getting it right with people who know and care, life is too short and there is too much riding to be done....

Lets be honest getting the stator done will cost you less than a set of tyres...and if its someone who loves the bikes doing it you will get a world of advice and general support at the same time.

Just my thoughts having had 8 months of nightmare until I worked it out, TUONO brill now

Still not right in my mind - I agree with all the comments above. Take it back, leave it there, and suggest you will pick it up in 7 days, fixed, or if not then you will have no choice but to escalate it. Offer to pay for the windings unit, order that yourself and take it in, then it is just his labour albeit that his guys will know exactly how to replace the unit. A new windings and a good mechanic doing the work is surely the best compromise?? Signing off now.

thanks for the comments guy,s but ive just managed to get another engine for nothing so im taking the stator of that and hopefully it will solve my wow,s and save me buying a new one.but your right it does come under the sale off goods act but this guy is telling me /sorry fella but it natural ware an tare ,******** i said your taking me for some kind of joe,y .but still if this parts ok then happy days.
