Just got a bargain 2006 RSVR, I've had 3 RSVs before but always had battery/charging issues, so I want to try and get all the upgrades I can for the charging system as well as a few other mods, anything you can suggest? Flapper valve sounds very annoying, I saw a guide on here but the pics are all gone, so I guess I need guidance and possibly someone with parts to sell to sort...

*Charging issues

*Terrible side stand

*Side stand switch (which has flashed on once or twice so far and seemed to cut the revs)

*Flappy sound from airbox

*Impossible neutral

*Any other important mods to make it more pleasurable and less work, I just want it to be as much fun and as little work as possible.

Thanks.

I was just about to post a similar question. I hope someone has some good advice. I can't find neutral if at a stand still and when I go for side stand I usually bang it I to first or second. No help I know but wanted you to know I feel your pain :) Btw I have a 2010 RsvR

The best thing to do to a gen2 ? Sell it, burn it. (Piaggio took over aprilia in 2004, they refused all warrenty work, AND changed the bike with cheaper items)

Once sold then buy a gen 1. None of the gen2 foibles....

The gen1 makes you look and feel better lol

Right for the kick stand I have found a kick stand shoe on the official RnG website. This should help dramatically with that issue.

For the side stand I got a US spec one. Great job. Get an oxford optimiser charger to leave bike battery maintained when not in use and make sure you get a good battery.

1st gear is impossible when stopped. Good upgrade is aprilia akropovic cans and get a dealer to swap the ECU setting to mod 2 for correct fueiing etc.

It's actually already got The Akrapovic Aprilia cans, needs new stickers though. No idea about the chip though, how do I know if I've got it?

If your bike is gen 2 it doesn't need a chip it just needs the ecu switched onto mode 2 by an aprilia main dealer. Another good mod is oberon or similar clutch slave cylinder which makes the clutch action a bit lighter.

Ok cool, cheers. It does actually have the Factory Racing slave cylinder too! The standard one went on my old one so that's always a priority.

*Charging issues;
Shindengen SH847 series rectifier/regulator kit (includes leads, connectors and 30A circuit breaker) from Roadstercycle.com, solder and heat-shrink through from stator to eliminate the brown connector(s). John Walker starter cables from [email protected]. 150A starter solenoid. Higher CCA battery, e.g. Yuasa YTZ14S (230CCA).

*Terrible side stand;
Honda Fireblade 2004-2007.

*Side stand switch (which has flashed on once or twice so far and seemed to cut the revs);
Make sure the switch tab correctly located in the hole in the stand, (both OEM and Fireblade).

I haven't had any issues with the other items that you've listed.

hi
don't know about gen 2 but I have gen1 and replaced a jet to stop trying to find neutral, which works perfectly.
good mod.

it is a jet that goes in your crankcase. upgraded to a bigger one and wow neutral all the time.
just checked fowlersparts but seems it unavailable.
cant remember where I got it - only last year - maybe someone on here can tell you.

Thanks. I think I will struggle with neutral. Don't fancy having to open the crankcase

you don't open your crankcase - its a 10min job .
sure theres a thread somewhere.
will try and find it wen I got bit of spare time.

btw
this is covered in the how to guides.
thought I had seen it somewhere
good luck

It's true, trying to get anythig done under warranty is impossible, although all RSV twins are well outside of their warranties by now. Apart from some silly glitches (design faults), which are mostly rectifiable, it is actually a fantastic bike. Mods I have done include:

Akrapovic end cans (baffles removed, of course) and mod 2 (from new).
K&N air filter
Oberon clutch slave cylinder (smoother and firmer action, no air ingress or seal degrdation)
Ducati 1098 rear brake master cylinder (better than OEM but needs to be mounted vertically to cure rear brake issue)
190/55 profile rear tyre (this has really improved the handling)
15T front spocket (Standard is too highly geared. This is better but still a little bit high.)

My 1098 rear brake convertion is mounted conventionally and works fine.
