RSV Factory Fork Clamp Cracking

if you're going to have it mapped then yes fit the airbox first. white wheels are nice, but a right arseache to keep clean .......... so I've heard!

unfortunately not chap - they are for axial mount calipers and smemly need radial mount

Cheers for looking fella, appreciated but as Deac says, they're for the earlier model. Mine should be all sorted now & my concerns about being off the road for the next couple of months (although i'd probably have dragged my Kawasaki out for a bit) are now behind me.

Carbon Airbox from Xtreme ordered today, it's amazing how all this escalates out of control & my credit card is beginning to glow. Next purchase Power Commander or Bazzaz?

I would suggest Bazzaz - traction control, fuel mapping, quickshifter etc

Yeap, thinking the same but slightly concerned that i have to wire it into the harness almost everywhere, rather than a power commander that just gets plugged into the ECU. Would make a cool addition though.

The Bazzaz is plug and play mate, no splicing needed. Just seen your email I will PM you some prices soon.

Cheers

hi bud , why dont you save a lot of dosh and time and just have them tig welded ? they will be as good as new mate:thumbup

i would weld mine if they were cracked no problem

Cheers mark, nice to know the bazzaz unit plugs in, definitely interested in a one of them now.

Biff, don't think I'd truly ever trust a welded fork lower, for piece of mind I'd rather have it replaced.

Hi,

Just in case you haven't had the forks done yet i had both my ohlins bottom legs replaced a few months back at FTR suspension. Costs £550 all in with full service completed on the forks. They are a ohlins specialist and were excellent, sounds expensive but worth it.

each leg costs about 160 + vat each so labour costs are not that bad and they had them finished in 2 days once the parts had arrived.

A point on welding, there is an internal o ring in the fork approx 15-20mm above the cracking point, I was advised that even if you get them welded the fork bottoms need removing to replace the o ring anyway and you need a special clamp to unscrew the bottoms.

Hope you get them sorted mate.

cheers mate, it's all good i think, all the bits are on order & i'm hoping the K-tech internals will make a nice difference as well. I can't wait to get the bloody thing back out on the track to really see what difference it makes.

Wheels are out & all bearings have been removed (i really hate knocking them out), i can't get the cush drive rubbers out but was thinking that they can just be cleaned and taped up, i'm not sure what they'll do when the oven bakes the powder coat but i'm hoping it'll be ok. I'll be ordering new bearings at some point.

Tyres will be removed tomorrow & the wheels will be dropped off at my local powder coaters Saturday AM & picked up at some point the following week. I've decided to go for white & will live with the constant cleaning. I'll fit a new set of tyres when i pick them up as the current ones are shot.

While the wheels are being powder coated, i'll get the top yoke redone as well, as it has a few marks.

I've just agreed (i think) to buy a Bazzaz unit from Xtreme to go with the airbox, which i am looking forward to having a play with.

Finally as i've just blown all my "toy" money for 2012, i'm thinking of removing the translogic dash i have sitting on my project bike & fitting it. There is a guy on here (spooky) who has fitted one & has a wiring diagram of what is required & if i can get a copy then i'll sort that out over the next couple of weeks.

use some wd40 or similat to remove the cush drive rubbers matey - I'd errr on the side of leaving them in during the baking process. You'll have to keep us updated on how the bazzaz unit works (are you getting the TC as well?) as that may be my next purchase if it works well, I know the guys over on AF1 love it.
Spooky spends a bit of time on the apriliaperformance forum, try him over there.

Deacs :thumbup

Will be the full monty, with traction control, quick shift, map switch etc....I'll post up the fitting and setup on here over the next couple of weeks. I'll have to clear some room to fit all this stuff & as i have a habit of pulling bikes apart and not fully rebuilding them for a couple of years, i am keen to get all this fitted as soon as it all arrives.

I'll drop Spooky a PM and see if he'll send over the diagram, hopefully i can fit it without to much of an issue.

Well spooky has come through with the wiring needed for the dash, cheers matey!!! I will take a look at that in the next couple of weeks. I'll need to sort out a new loom from translogic as i want to preserve the current one for the kawasaki.

Wheels have been delivered to the powder coaters and will be ready for next Saturday. I'll order new bearings later in readiness for their return.

Lee, plaese can you email a copy of the wiring for the dash please, I have a customer that wants one fitting.

Cheers Mark

Well, it's been a couple of weeks and things are starting to happen but slowly as usual.

Wheels have been powder coated white and are now sitting in the garage, i am pretty chuffed with the results. Unfortunately the rear wheel bearings ordered from Wemoto are the incorrect size & don't fit. I've temporarily pressed in the originals so i could get the tyres fitted this morning. Took the wheels to the local shop, to be told they don't have the valves for them & i'd have to order some...... I'll ring the local bike shop tomorrow & see if they've got them. Might be easier to get them to fit some tyres as well.

Got a call last week from Steve Jordans, with an update on the fork lower. Ohlins have sent the wrong side & will be sending the correct part this week. Ktech kit is sitting in the workshop waiting to be fitted. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks this will all be done.

Wheels.

Those wheels look sweet mate. Your Bazzaz unit will be here next week, so one more thing off your list.

Mark

Cheers guys. Have to say that it was a mission to keep the wheels clean when I put the bearings in. I can see that I'm going to be busy keeping them that way.

Mark, looking forward to getting the bazzaz and air box, it'll be nice to get it back together.
