hi guys - was on way home today and pulled up outside of house and some guy pulled over too in a car - first thoughts was he wanted to feel the end of mi gloves as id shot past him - but he said mate ure bike running rich - hmmm i said - tina told me that the other day - i have disonnected the flapper valve - any ideas guys ???? just seems to be a recent thing

got akapovics on but its been set to map 2

well according to the guy who i passed -and pulled up me thinking he wanted a roadrage incident :) he said well over fuelling could smell it badly as he used to work on bikes a few yrs ago - and the missus said she could smell fuel and like after norther lads run out last sunday could smell it as my side door is in garage - but only seems recent ???

I'm guessing he said it was over fuelling/running rich by the smell as you passed. What did you have to eat? :devious

Easiest test would be to whip the plugs out and see what condition they are in. That will give you a good pointer as to if it is actually running rich. Out of curiosity are you running the standard airbox or an open one?

standard airbox - just disconnected flapper valve so open intake at front - like i said though - tina said i stink lol not in general just fuel - lol though thinking about it i bet she'd want me stinking of fuel as mortgage would be paid off should a match come my way lol

yeah i gonna take plugs out - i know the differences with rich lean - ignition faults etc
changed the plugs not long back and they were fine / as normal

If you stink of fuel then i'd hazard a guess you've got a leak squire as opposed to the bike running rich. Check around the throttle bodies, and where the are lines bolted in. I've had seepage from a loose line on the throttle bodies before now.

did you just fill up and its runnung out of the over flow ?? mine does that

no dave mate - light came on. on motorway on way home this aft ?? the guy pulled me up on our street

cant see that really mate ??? gonna change oil n plugs again and see seems strange tho - all of a sudden

Oddly enough, my '07 just started doing the same thing...

Arrows with no db killers & map2 was perfect the last track day but last week started running rich. I thought maybe because I was pulling low revs in traffic but a good blast didn't improve things. I checked the intake & filter, which look fine. ( I've already replaced the fuel line hose clamp.)

The tank breathers are venting OK so I guess the next thing to check is that the flapper valve is working properly.

yeah spoonz plugged the vacuum pipe for the flapper valve when i disconnected it -
seems strange like oldTZracer's has started to do the same ??? :dunno

I Have a 2007 rsv1000r and recently did the flapper valve mod. pullled the hose off and plugged with a large bolt then electrical taped it. A few days of riding after strange things happenned while riding. Speedo went wack displaying 88-170 irradicly could not hold a constant speed display on hwy. my guess is my actual speed was around 120km/hr at the time. Pulled over and reversed the mod. let bike cool down and hasn't happenned since. My guess was the flapper mod had something to do with this or a faulty speedo sensor, since then bike has been o.k.

ive put mine back to standard - see how it goes now - if get a chance with whats left of the year

Standard RSVR 1000 with Cored Cans on MAP 2

I'm sure yours will look quite simular... lean low end then rich though out

Temperature dipped below 0c last night, so I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to do any more testing either...

hi guys -

now after my recent posts on the subject i nipped out just before xmas and it ran resonably ok bit lumpy - so this weekend i have a look at the plugs while i did the quicker action throttle mod - and they were all sooted up

i had noticed that a vacuum pipe has split from the throttle bodies that goes to a valve or something on the under side of the air box -- any ideas if this may cause symptoms - im not sure what the valve is for ??
