Hello to all and thanks. I am already stunned after 10 full minutes on the Forum by the information and the incredible photos!

I am not your typical Tuono enthusiast, and in fact, am not even an owner. I presently ride (of all things) a Harley Touring bike, still own the 125cc KTM / Penton of my youth, have owned dirt bikes in days gone by, and am on the hunt for something to set my heart on fire. I contemplated the KTM 1290 Super Duke R and new GT, was fascinated by the BMW S1000XR, and am intrigued by the Yamaha FZ-10 (MT-10 elsewhere). Then it happened: I saw videos of the new Tuono V4 1000 (& Factory version). I am not certain that I will ever be the same again.

I am also unlike the typical Tuono rider physically. I am (somewhat!) older and wish for no, not more radical rear sets, but in fact a lower and possibly more forward peg position. Also, though I prefer the look of clip ons, I would even prefer by means of a riser or alternate handlebars, a shorter and less aggressive reach for the controls. I think that these items are available, but in very low demand. Still, I am not certain of their existence or the choices available.

Until recently, items on my must have list were luggage capability, cruise control, heated grips, etc. HOWEVER, I have been so absolutely smitten by the looks and sound of the Tuono that I hardly care about anything! We all know about the torque, brakes, and handling. Nevertheless, what I find oddly lacking in reviews are things that still interest me, such as
  • How are the headlights at night
  • Is there a fuel gauge or just a low fuel light?
  • How is reliability these days?
  • Did I really see Tuono photos with a taller windscreen or did I imagine it?

Again, I thank you all for your enthusiasm and knowledge

You've found the right place to ask questions, I think if you do a searech you will find a post a commented on with my views on the other bikes you've mentioned.

But to answer your questions:

Headlights I found them pretty good, Not quite adventure bike quality but still pretty good, The High beam is blinding!
Fuel guage Short answer, There isn't one. The fuel light comes on at different miles dependant on how throttle happy you get, I normally get 90-100 miles when the light appears, and thats a mixture of riding. The reserve is up to 20 miles.
Reliability Theres not much that goes wrong on these bikes, But there is a few upgrades you can do to help out, Stronger starter and earth cables on early models.
Windscreen There is a few options for Screens, I have a Puig screen which is angular and I think it suits the bike perfectly. It gets removed if im not doing big miles as I like the 'Naked' feeling.

In my experience, after test riding the bikes you mentioned and a few others, I still came back to the Tuono, Its a brilliant bike and I wish I'd bought one sooner.

Thank to you Gav, and to the others as well. Excellent answers, all. I will try looking at the Puig and I have seen a set of pegs that lowers them by about 35 mm (1 3/8") and need to wonder about a slightly more accommodating bar that will not hamper cable travel, etc. Regarding model year, I am looking at a '16, and wondering when 17s are released in the States and elsewhere. Thanks again.

Torquey- Welcome. I am 67 and have owned nine bikes in the last 15 years. From HD Fatboy to CBR 1000 rr and my '16 Factory is my favorite bike. I also own a '15 Yamaha FJ-09 and prefer the Tuono hands down to that bike. I even get less wind noise and buffeting on the Tuono with its stock screen than on the Yam whether using the its original factory screen or a big Parabellum which was a big improvement on that bike. I also find the Tuono very comfortable-sold the CBR for that reason and I loved that bike. On a 150 mile ride upstate I got 37 mpg, which is amazing for the Tuono. I have also had the warning light come on at 100 miles. It depends how you ride it. The only real fault the bike has is that it will overheat in crawling traffic. If like this past weekend I was getting to the tolls going 11 miles an hour stopping and then 20 mph and stopping it's ok, but if you are stopped then inch forward and then stop it won't tolerate it. I'm in Dix Hills. Hit me up to get together for a ride (and to show off my bike-sorry I couldn't resist.)
