Northern Exposure - Fudfest III

Slomo min,

If u want to avoid the boring duller to Inverness its an option to take the Granton on Spey to Nairn road, adds 7 miles to the trip. Not done all o that but have done a bit of it, its a cracker, well the road from Granton to Forres is , same road for a bit then it splits.
Nairn to Inverness is a busy bit though.

I might well manage the 24th but none of the other dates, although not sure I'll manage an over nighter or not. Another detour to avoid the A96 to Inverness would be turn off just before Nairn and head the back road round by Cowdor. Great road although they have chipped quite a bit of it lately!!! should be ok by the time of the run tho

I was thinking of that road as well. It's been a while since I've been on it though. It be honest though, I would rather do the stint on the A9 than on any part o road bloody road fae nairn, fuckerbers etc.

I'm also thinking this. If it seems that most folks canna manage the two days, we could shorten it and jist go up ti Inverness vis Granton on Spey way, and then doon the ither side o the Loch to Fort Bill then back the Laggan road and hame. Still a good lang hurl like.

Aye aye Rico. Jist coz yi want ti mak it a bag bursting hurl (for those of you that don't know, R collects receipts for a living and obviously wants this to be a record breaking cache) and yiv been spiking to Morag and she's said yi can get a 2 day pass. Maybe some ither canna get that min. Might even tak the 916 jist ti really torture misel:)

Your up early gadgie. I did Glasgow, Thurso, Durness, Ullapool, Garve, Achnasheen, Strathcarron, Invergarry, Fort Bill, Tyndrum and then home fir ma curry and a couple of apple juices.
All the above from a 6am start and I wis hame fir 10pm, ma arse wis still a bit numb the next morning though.
And it pished fae Laxford Bridge tae Tyndrum.

Dae yer think Mr r is stickin a few of they receipts on his expenses accoont ???

Aye that's a fair hurl right enough. I made a comment to R that I wanted to do some longer hurls this year because in the past it's jist been a wee spin here an'air. I'm jist throwning a couple o ideas in the proverbal skid lid.

Re Receipto: I really winda like ti say because he's bigger and younger than mi. Oh I might be needing a shottie o his bike lift soon:)

gadgie, whit are the dates up fir grabs fir the hurl? I've got stuff on, on the 4th and 11th of Sept and a golf do on a yet to be decided sunday though it'll probably coincide wae one of the aforementioned dates. I'm feckin burstin fir a run, a need ma fix mucker.

gadgie that sounds like our September weekend, but if it is then I'll stake my claim early.
Only down side is the weather can be guaranteed to be *****.

So what are we saying aboot this? If it's the 25/26, then it only 4 weeks away. Any input on routes etc?

If it's just the 1 day your planning your suggestion of up to inverness and down to fort william (for lunch) and home via Aviemore would be a good run

If I may suggest a stop over at Gairloch at the Gairloch Highland Lodge (its got a trust bar). You go down for eats at the Old Inn and the grub is not too bad. Kinlochewe and Achnasheene are awesome roads. Have been up there a few times. Also the roads around Ullapoole are amazing too. I may be keen to join you guys, but unfortunately it wont be on the T. I am awaiting delivery of the lazyboy ZZR1400 (is that allowed?). I work offshore though, so its unpredictable when I'm about though.

I feel I have done the bit for Aprilia, having owned 2 Factorys, a 2007 and a 2010. Its time to move on though. I will be pining when I hear one popping on the overrun and some blipping of the throttle.

I have never tired of being able to set car alarms off on a terraced street!! Ha ha!!

Arron.

Slomo min,

Foo's the decidin whats happenin goin on, 1 day, 2 day, 24th-25th or 25th-26th ?
Still like ur very 1st idea the best so far, but am flexible.

Right as a wee starter fir 10.
24th Sept or 1st Oct would be best for me.
Might manage 17th Sept at a push.

So if those dates are ony guid then let mi ken.

Possible route would be.
Day 1 (Saturday) aboot 200-210 miles
Peternapper
Mintlaw
Turriff
Huntly
Dufftown
Grantown on Spey
Carrbridge
Boring Duller to Inverness
Alness
Dornach
Brora
Helmsdale
Dunbeath
Thurso. (This route might change slighty on the day by going the scenic route)

Day 2 Sunday.
Thurso
Kyle of Tongue
Lairg
Inverness (down loch ness)
Fort Agustus
Fort Billy
(179 miles to here)
Backtrack a little to Kingussie along the Loch Laggan road. Aboot 50miles
So that would be aboot 230 to there.
The NE guys can go back hame through avimore etc, and the gadgies form doon sooth can hot foot it doon the A9 inti Perth etc.
Of course this is jist an idea of what I think we can be doing. It would be quite a hurl because the roads are quite a challange in some places but I'm sure they would be worth it.
Also, if anyone makes it up early enough on Friday afternoon I can take them a spin roon the local roads for an hour or so.

THOUGHTS!!!

Right I have been given this a bit more thought. Dates 24th to 25thThe places will be the same but the route slightly different. Instead of going to Thurso on the Saturday, we should go to Kyle of Tongue via Lairg. Then on Sunday go tfrom Tongue to Thurso, then back down to Inverness on the A9. After Inverness it's back to the route mentioned above. So by my reckoning that would be aboot 555 mile roon trip fae Peternapper. Aboot 190 the first day, and 365 the second day, We could go Tongue to Thurso on the first day. That would add aboot 50 miles, but reduce the Sunday run by 50 etc.

Must be a way tae split that a bitty mair evenly SloMo loon! Sair erses oan a Sunday!

Excuse me for interupting, but I have done the A9 far too many times, so were me, would want to avoid it. A couple of suggestions, hope they help.

Rather than the Duller to Inverness, try the road from Grantown uptowards Nairn, then before you get there Cawder/Croy road past Culloden.

Then maybe head to Ulapool for the stop, and you could then fit in the Cow Pass from Applecross, and the road back from the Isles to Invergarry.

Sorry, biassed post, just me and a few of my favourite roads!

I agree wi Rico, a wee bit better split, there may be "delicate" riders on the second day.

Iain, Did the applecross road last year in September, never again, the cloud was down, visor misted, glasses misted, had to do it with no glasses on and could not see a thing, talk aboot "fun" and whats with the 3.5 ton lorry drivers who think they are rallye drivers beltin into the mist doon hill, mmmmmmm. Will go back another day maybe and make sure the cloud is a bit higher.

Done most of those roads, and in the sun, you can't do better. So rather than a fixed agenda, have a look at the forecast on Wednesday (at the latest) work out if its gonna be dry, and if so, head that way. If its wet, does it really matter where you go?
