Hi guys.

Just wondered if anyone knows what happens to your no claims bonus, of which I have about 10+ years, if and when you haven't got anything insured?

I've asked a few insurance companies but they're all giving me vague and different info, so I guess my question is, is it up to each individual company and/or is there a time limit before your NCB expires?

You "normally" get 12 months before it becomes null and void but some will look at it for 2 years after the policy has expired. Just ask for proof of bonus and keep it under the bed until next time you need insurance. Failing that get hold of a cheap non runner and insure it Third Party Only......
Hope this helps bud.

Yeah i was gonna say that get cheap bike even a non runner , chuck in the back of the garage, but insure it !! The smaller the better to keep the price down ,, job done,,,,,

I was with bennetts and had a 2 year gap and lost all of mine the *******s. But like the others say find the cheapest machine you can and insure it, (don't even need tax or mot). Might seem like lost money but will help in the future:thumbup

Make sure it's on a SORN though!

Definately insure something cause as sure as **** when it comes to insuring something again those f*ckers will find any excuse to pump up your premium.....f*ckers!!

Even get an absolute shed of a bike, get the V5 and SORN IT!!! Easiest way buddy................:thumbup

just buy a frame off ebay chuck it in the loft and insure it, as long as you have the v5. Keep your proof of no claims, my mate got a discount after 5 years without bike by proving he had full no claims before, shy bairns get nought.

get a mate to put you on his policy as a named driver and pay him the few quid if there is any difference.

I`ve just come back to biking after a 5-year lay-off, and so I lost the 9 years that I already had, as I was told they`re gone after a 2 year absence.

Didn`t make THAT much difference to be honest, as I`m an old git, so my RSVR only came in at £293 fully-comp.

Age does have some advantages.............:thumbup

(But I`d rather be young again.....:dowhat)

Thanks for your advice guys, I really appreciate it. You've given me some good ideas to head the insurance *******s off at the pass! I'm hoping that I'll almost definietely be back on the road within 2 years but you can't be too careful.

Case in point is that my current insurance broker, Express Insurance, are chasing me for full payment of my years insurance as I was paying on direct debit and I'd only paid about 5 months of the 12. They're claiming that because the majority of the policy is remaining I may have to pay the rest of the policy off. Their reasoning being that they have already paid the policy off in full to the insurance company on my behalf and if they can't recover the remaining amount from the insurance company I'll be fitting the bill. Such ******s.

Anyway thanks again for all your help.
